I am disgusted by the announcement that these two have sacked 15 British members of staff. What are they thinking?
I ask myself 'how would I feel if I'd upped sticks and gone to another country out of loyalty to my employer, only for them to get rid of me 3 months later.
I would be heartbroken and furious.

Have you? ( Summer ) It was said earlier that H and M inspired young people and that they ‘related’ to them.
I say young people don’t relate to any royals, how could they?
They may ( school children) be excited to meet them, as to them they are just celebs.

paddyanne Mon 09-Mar-20 19:15:46

School age kids get taken out of classes and given union jacks to wabve when "royals" come to town,I have complained about and kept my children off school because of it.Its indoctrination ,subtle but it is .Those crowds of happy children are happy to get out of the classroom thats all

maddyone Mon 09-Mar-20 19:13:37

In my opinion none of the royals inspire young people. Of course if their school is picked to be visited, or provide some service to a royal, then the teachers would big up the event and importance to the children and therefore they would respond. It’s possible that Prince Harry’s service in the Armed Forces might have inspired a few to join up, but that’s about all. Why would the Queen, W+C, Sophie, PC+C, or Meghan inspire young people? Inspire them to do what?

SirChenjin Mon 09-Mar-20 19:12:10

Namsnanny I do grin

Summerlove
Given posters said how lovely she looks in bright colours I don't know why you are saying the opposite.
I think The ladies in the royal family can wear whatever colours they want. But earlier in this thread posters were saying that Meghan Was blatantly breaking royal protocol by wearing dark colours to other events with members of the royal family. So it is interesting that Camilla is praised for how lovely she looks in navy.

namsnanny
I see your point now Summerlove … yes odd, I always thought the dark colour thing was a no no where royals were concerned

I’m glad you see my point.

Ah who cares about colours and all this nonsense.

A lot of people did earlier in the thread when they were using colours to insult Meghan. But now that Camilla has worn the same colour publicly, it’s all ‘stuff and nonsense’.

They don’t relate to H and M anymore than W and C.

Have you asked Them all then?

Anniebach Mon 09-Mar-20 19:04:13

Jura. How do Harry and Megan inspire children ?

My younger daughter watched the service, two of my
grandchildren were in work, one in university.

Inspire ?

maddyone Mon 09-Mar-20 19:02:02

All mine were at work!
My six year old granddaughter loves princesses though, but would be most disappointed to notice that not a single one of them was wearing a crown. In fact she would think they simply weren’t up to the job without a crown.

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 18:56:34

Let's ask GNetters- did your adult children and grand children watch the Service at Westminster on TV today- and do you think they will stream on catch-up to see it?

NO

NO

Namsnanny Mon 09-Mar-20 18:49:44

Sirchenjin ...you love them really! wink

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 18:40:20

Maw- the discussion about TV is related to who watched the Service this afternoon on TV- and whether they particularly cared about whether someone wore navy or whatever colour- and was was behind whom, etc.

lemongrove Mon 09-Mar-20 18:37:08

They don’t relate to H and M anymore than W and C.
Young people would be pleased to meet either of the couples I dare say.
If H and M live in Canada or the US full time ( looks as if they may well do) in a few years nobody here would be interested in them.

MawB Mon 09-Mar-20 18:34:49

I fail to see how the younger generation watch TV or not (and I would agree about Netflix or the occasional Britbox “binge” ) bears any relation to whether or not Meghan inspires the younger generation. ??
I think Harry might but other than that the younger among us are entirely ambivalent about the Royals.
BTW we do need to be clear what we mean about “younger generation” - the children at the Dagenham school - 11-16 or our AC perhaps in their 40’s or 50’s .

lemongrove Mon 09-Mar-20 18:32:52

All ours watch tv....they ask me if I have seen certain programmes, and ta dah! Have seen them watching tv with my own eyes.grin The teenage DGS loves tv ( normal channels.)

pinkquartz Mon 09-Mar-20 18:31:56

I didn't watch TV news when I was young.
I listened to the radio but avoided TV other than Top of the Pops.
It drove my mum mad that I wouldn't sit and watch with them but I wasn't interested.
I don't think young people do make a point of watching TV news.

Anniebach Mon 09-Mar-20 18:28:40

But youngsters would be excited if a celebrity visited , you
haven’t said how they inspire youngsters ?

merlotgran Mon 09-Mar-20 18:28:29

They relate to them- in a way they could never relate to William and Kate.

What utter tosh!

If it's true then these youngsters must be feeling very let down that their idols, who could have made such a difference, have turned their backs on them to follow their celebrity ambitions. hmm

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 18:26:51

Yes, Sir C- they find it very strange that we switch on BBC1 or ITV, and watch without Netflix, streaming, etc, etc.

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 18:23:56

Annie- did you watch the reaction of youngsters at the school they visited? And at the Albert Hall? And at the time of the wedding? They relate to them- in a way they could never relate to William and Kate.

Namsnanny Mon 09-Mar-20 18:23:12

Merlot 17.55 made me laugh ...thanks for that!

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 18:22:44

Ah well, who is nasty and arrogant now merlot- really! Very unpleasant for sure. The trends re the way young people watch TV are well researched and well known/proven.

From the Guardian July last year ''Young people in Britain have almost entirely abandoned television news broadcasts, according to Ofcom, while half of the country now gets its news from social media.

While the average person aged 65 and over watches 33 minutes of TV news a day, this falls to just two minutes among people aged 16-24, according the media regulator’s annual news consumption report.

The decline has been driven by audiences moving away from traditional live broadcast channels, where they might watch a popular drama and leave the channel on during the evening news bulletin, towards watching catchup content from streaming services.''

Are you really denying this is the case, and that your younger family diverge vastly from the norm?

Anniebach Mon 09-Mar-20 18:22:43

How do Harry and Megan inspire the young Jura ?

SirChenjin Mon 09-Mar-20 18:21:08

Mine use a combination of media to view their programmes - probably because we appear to have a squillion devices and platforms so they and DH can watch eleventy billion hours of rubbish per week between them.

merlotgran Mon 09-Mar-20 18:19:51

but they must be very different to my lot then

Thank God for that!

Namsnanny Mon 09-Mar-20 18:19:28

My point Bridget ..is if course it's an important subject to discuss, just because you feel it isn't doesn't change anything

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 18:18:14

And they all watch trad TV and love the Royal family and identify with them Merlot? Not saying that they don't - but they must be very different to my lot then ;)
