Councils have statutory Duties to spend on ‘minorities’ such as the disabled & children (& many councils are getting to the stage where they can’t afford to meet those Duties).

So which ‘minorities’ are we talking about & is the council ignoring Duties for flood risks?

aprilrose Corbyn is still an MP and (theoretically) in a position to do something, although with the present majority there's not much chance of him being successful.

Well re Jeremy, getting out there and meeting the flood victims, they seemed pleased to know they hadn’t been completely forgotten. But surely you could have worked that out for yourself ???

Boris Johnson doesn’t come across as a chap who sees the need for giving emotional support. For example, do you remember how he dismissed complaints from female MPs who were facing daily threats and abuse?
Now is his chance to shine as the PM invested with with the people’s confidence to get things done. I hope he takes it.

aprilrose A man on the news said that he had supported Boris and would like Boris to come and see what has happened in order to return the support. He would have gained some emotional support at a very difficult time.
Being a Prime Minister should surely mean giving emotional as well as practical support.

Who are ”the obvious/ not obvious minorities” that aprilrose ‘s council are wasting money on? The disabled? Children in care? Mentally ill? Those with learning disabilities? Not all that obvious to some.

Boris Johnson has shown his true colours by not offering support to flood hit communities or even visiting them.

Jeremy spoke to residents heard their stories and listened to their concerns. Highlighted floods will happen again more needs to be done now to tackle the climate emergency

Well, where I live the council have been out cutting dangerous trees, dredging the ditches and generally preparing for the storms and clearing after each one. So it isnt all bad.

BUT we dont get anything else where I am. We get this because we kicked merry hell to the council and the MP when we were left flooded twenty years ago after they built houses on a flood plain and the water came on down like never before.

Now, despite government requirements they have curtailed building as most locals will put in objections if there are any planning applications for larger scale housing. We have flood measures and people kick to the local council everytime there is a blocked gully.

The council dont like it but we pay high council tax and a lot of people got fed up of it being spent on things for those who are in the minorities ( of all kinds , not just the obvious).

There has been a lot of controversy especially when some councilors were hounded by certain groups for saying what they thought but the bottom line here is COMPLAIN to the councilors, and vote the s*bs out if they dont start sorting the issues.

Local Councils have suffered huge cuts to their funding in recent years and because they have certain statutary duties to maintain some services, others have fared much worse, particularly environment and planning. This chart shows the reduction in funding from 2010-2018. This has been a move by central government to weaken local government. It is time that these budgets were restored - a better use for the magic money tree than absurd £billion vanity projects.

Even if he didn’t visit ( and we know he won’t because he’ll be heckled and like all people of his type, he’s a coward - mind you there will be plenty of abandoned fridges for him to hide in) he could issue a statement, could publicly ask for an EA briefing, or a briefing from ABI or pledge some money . Just shoe he cares - as if
