In this morning’s DT
THE Duke of Sussex has been duped into speaking about his decision to quit the Royal Family by hoaxers pretending to be Greta Thunberg, it was claimed last night.
The Duke was pranked by Russian jokers who convinced him he was speaking to the teenage climate activist and her father, according to The Sun. He alluded to tensions between his wife and himself, and the rest of the Royal family and also criticised Donald Trump, who he said “has blood on his hands.
The two phone calls were reportedly made to the Duke at his rented home on Vancouver Island, Canada, on New Year’s Eve and January 22, by Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov, known as Vovan and Lexus
Do you all remember how “Sheik gate” put an end to Sophie Wessex’s career plans? I fear that without the protection of a Royal Press Officer Harry risks being a bit of “an innocent abroad “

Edward may well have done, a lot of people did particularly in 1933 before the horror of the Nazi regime became obvious. Even then tales coming out of Germany were often considered to be exaggerated. The photo was clearly larking around hence the exaggerated salute! It certainly doesn't indicate support for Nazi Germany by HM or her mother. The Duke of Saxe Coburg Gotha, was a cousin of George Vth, entertained in exactly the way the Kaiser was before WW1. After the War, like the Kaiser, he was never spoken to, or even mentioned by the RF for the rest of his life!

Nazi excusers. You've sunk to a new low.

eazybee, I didn't make the assumption she'd have disliked MM. Someone else did.

I think anyone that earns 5 million (as long as it isn't from slavery, arms trade, drugs etc) has achieved a lot. But you carry on talking it down if you like.

I should imagine Harry had a LOT of talking to do re: his nazi costume. And no, there is NO playful nazi salute. Get a grip.

Greymar Tue 31-Mar-20 19:32:30

Is Harry a Nazi , he wore a Nazi uniform

I wore a ballerina costume, doesn't make me a ballerina.

Greymar Tue 31-Mar-20 19:29:32

Oh come off it, it is well documented Edward sympathisied with the Nazi party.

eazybee Tue 31-Mar-20 19:18:50

The abdication scandal was 1936; the Duke of Saxe Coburg was a relative, and I doubt if he was entertained once war was declared. If the royal files are sealed I wonder how you know so clearly, that is, not based on hearsay, that this 'information' is true.
MM is a mixed race woman, she is not from a normal family; possibly you think being in a soap opera and earning so much money for such trash is an achievement?
But calling the Queen Mother racist because somebody else says she would have despised MM.
Really?

Anniebach Tue 31-Mar-20 19:12:01

1933

Really

Ilovecheese Tue 31-Mar-20 19:08:17

Playful nazi salutes? Really?

Anniebach Tue 31-Mar-20 19:06:38

The Duke was a relative,

The home film of the Nazi salute was so obviously playful,m

Is Harry a Nazi , he wore a Nazi uniform

Jabberwok Tue 31-Mar-20 19:00:22

I understood that her father financially supported her during her school and university years. ( That awful toxic uncaring parent!) I don't think she had to do any actual work to support herself until the 'film career' made her a few bob!

GagaJo Tue 31-Mar-20 18:56:24

George VI was grateful to Germany for not reporting on the abdication scandal. QM entertained Nazi, Duke of Coburg at Sandringham and BP. The King supported a political link with Hitler. Not to mention the video of the Q and the QM doing the Nazi salute. The Nazi links are the reason many of the royal files from this time are sealed.

Re: MM. To go from being an average black American woman, to being in a nationally popular TV series and having a net worth of between 4 & 5Mil before marrying sounds pretty good to me. More than any one of us I here I posit.

Anniebach Tue 31-Mar-20 18:52:10

I am baffled by ‘worked her way up’, a quiz show then a tv series,

eazybee Tue 31-Mar-20 18:47:13

* A black woman who came from a and worked her way up. Of course she would. Racist, silver spoon and with nazi links. Bit less palatable than vulgar*.

Black woman? No. Mixed race
Normal family? Really?
Worked her way up. Soap Opera
Racist. Evidence?
Nazi links? Evidence?

Jabberwok Tue 31-Mar-20 18:33:28

I too am intrigued by these Nazi links?!!! Muddled thinking there as she certainly didn't!

Jabberwok Tue 31-Mar-20 18:30:29

They crowds were out in force on VE night cheering the King , the Queen and Winston! ' We want the king '! Its all on film! Wins on was certainly popular During the war, sadly for the left on here! After the war he was perceived as an old man from a bygone age. Mind you Atlee was hardly a spring chicken and out of the same social background as Winston!
As for ridiculous accusations of racism towards MM, is the poster aware that the first (maybe not the first!) woman of mixed colour in the RF was in fact Queen Charlotte, the wife of George 111rd!! MM's origins are of no concern to anyone on here least of all me. Her conduct however is and would have been to to the Queen Mother.

Greymar Tue 31-Mar-20 17:46:55

But this isn’t a politics thread

But it can be?

Framilode Tue 31-Mar-20 17:45:29

Anniebach\ Lady Fermoy was a snob. She couldn't bear the thought of her daughter going off with someone in 'trade'. I think Diana's mother's second husband was in the wallpaper business.

trisher Tue 31-Mar-20 17:43:55

But the myth remains that Churchill was popular amongst the working classes. He wasn't

Anniebach Tue 31-Mar-20 17:39:24

I do know that trisher the entire voting population didn’t
vote for Johnson.

But this isn’t a politics thread

trisher Tue 31-Mar-20 17:36:01

Actually They didn't Anniebach -1951 The Labour defeat was significant for several reasons: the party polled almost a quarter of a million votes more than the Conservatives and their National Liberal allies combined; won the most votes that Labour has ever won (as of 2019); and won the most votes of any political party in any election in British political history, a record not surpassed until the Conservative Party's victory in 1992
Just because you win it doesn't mean all the people voted for you.

Anniebach Tue 31-Mar-20 17:35:49

Lady Fermoy was lady in waiting to the QM, Johnnie Spencer
was equerry to the Queen and her father.

The Spencer’s lived at Sandringham until 1975, they holidayed
at Balmoral. He hit his wife, she left him , her own mother
Lady Fermoy supported her son in law in the divorce case, why ?

Greymar Tue 31-Mar-20 17:29:05

The Queen Mother and Lady Fermoy became confidantes, and it was assumed by many that the two women engineered the match between their grandchildren, the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer

Anniebach Tue 31-Mar-20 17:26:17

GagaJo what nazi links did the QM have ?

Anniebach Tue 31-Mar-20 17:24:08

They certainly voted him back in after the post war election
