Government is lying about lack of availability of CV testing chemicals

I'm not surprised. But hugely disappointed. I understand politics and that a Tory decision isn't the same as a Labour decision, but at the moment, SURELY the only thing any government should be doing is whatever helps the country and its people the most?

Why are people coming here from Italy Spain and elsewhere without being quarantined tested then getting on public transport moving freely around while rest of British people are on lock down?

Why so slow to start testing? WHO warned weeks ago far behind other countries. Should have planned for this months ago.

Germany is testing far far more.

GagaJo Thu 02-Apr-20 12:31:35

Sorry Wwm. X post, and yours was much better.

GagaJo Thu 02-Apr-20 12:30:48

Not to make a political point, to make them adhere to WHO advice! ‘Test, test, test.’

Whitewavemark2 Thu 02-Apr-20 12:28:43

sussex no we keep the governments mind focused on what is important. Democracy does that. The problem is that the government isn’t proactive it is reactive and consequently
Confidence is beginning to drop considerably.

Listening to minister after minister every evening at the press conference has been a disaster for No 10, all it has achieved is to highlight the governments complete cluelessness day after day. Words are not actions and that is clear when listening to NHS staff begging for the tests, PPE and equipment needed to fight this virus.

I see that the Speaker has requested a virtual parliament be set up during shut down to allow MPs to scrutinise the Government's latest response. I heard that Rees-Mogg is looking into this on Today and this is mentioned in the Guardian.
Good idea or not ?

Sussexborn Thu 02-Apr-20 12:18:30

So instead of letting people get on with dealing with the matter in hand we scream and shout and stamp our feet and do everything possible to disrupt their focus just to make a political point.

That seems like a sensible way of going about things, doesn’t it?

Another reason that BJ got such an enormous endorsement at the GE. Q for the tedious and repetitive whatabouteries!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 02-Apr-20 12:14:48

One bit of relief amongst all this chaos and gloom, is that further negotiations are being shelved with regard to brexit.

We will stay as status quo for the foreseeable future.

growstuff Thu 02-Apr-20 12:10:56

Reporting what he had been told by the Chemical Industries Association wasn't false scaremongering and sensationalist clap trap.

growstuff Thu 02-Apr-20 12:09:24

In that case notanan promises shouldn't have been made just to sound good on the day.

growstuff Thu 02-Apr-20 12:08:09

Is your friend an expert notanan?

The experts in logistics are the civil servants, who have been derided and undermined by the current government.

Changing a strategy in the light of the latest information is a mature and competent move. That's what happened about two weeks ago. Changing your mind on an almost daily basis, giving out figures and making promises then backtracking and covering up is not a sign of a competent government.

notanan2 Thu 02-Apr-20 12:01:17

So great! Lets end up WASTING a whole batch because it was rushed through and now gives false results... never mind the fatalities that'll cause.

... just so the loud shouters are appeased.

Sounds great.

notanan2 Thu 02-Apr-20 11:57:55

Yes notanan shouting loud and clear from media and the public is about the only thing to kick start this bunch of incompetents.

The "kick start" being tabled now is a relaxing of safety and quality processes.

These things prevent deaths!

Joelsnan Thu 02-Apr-20 11:57:08

Did anyone see Peston on ITV last night where he was basically eviscerated by a virologist.
This should be broadcast over and over again because of the false scaremongering he and others are creating.
At times like this we need seriously researched honest journalism, not the sensationalist crap trap being spewed at the moment.

Pikachu Thu 02-Apr-20 11:17:22

It’s a total cock-up and this bevy of bumbling Boris-led Hooray Henrys don’t know the first thing about logistics.

I’m not a Piers Morgan fan but this clip says it all

Lack of testing front line staff indefensible

growstuff Thu 02-Apr-20 11:14:53

Do you have a link to the article and PPS?

Whatever your opinion of Peston lemongrove he was reporting what he had been told by the Chemical Industries Association, which represents the UK's very substantial chemicals industry.

Gove has a history of being found out as a liar, so Peston was right to double check what he said and he reported what he had been told.

growstuff Thu 02-Apr-20 11:02:26

The country doesn't need unity if it's being led by an incompetent government.

GagaJo Thu 02-Apr-20 10:56:26

Censorship? Seriously?

Our government are putting lives at risk and your answer is to tell people to shut up?

notanan2 Thu 02-Apr-20 10:42:07

So those applauding the people barking at the gov "MORE TESTS NOW" and defending it on the basis that it'll get things speeded up:

You know that speeding it up means relaxing safety processes right?
You know that missdiagnosis could be fatal?
A false positive for CV means that you might not be tested for other things which have more treatment options, which means you wont get those treatments, potentially dying unecessarily as a result?

A false positive may mean dying without your loved ones etc

CV19 has less treatment options than things like flu.

A false negative can also have fatal consequences.

So shhh the PEOPLE ARE DYING USE IT ALL NOW and think

Trying to make a cheap policitical point when thousands are losing their lives and others seriously ill, is really beyond the pail. Everyone is working to find a solution and. working their socks off. I don't know where or when you qualified as a scientist or doctor Garajo, but the country needs unity not division, trust the scientists and advisors, they are dealing with something never known in our lifetime, yet you know the answers, it's not Brexit. It's Life or death. Tests have to be right or they are pointless what bit of that don't you get.

Summerlove Wed 01-Apr-20 22:19:05

As far as I'm concerned China is responsible for this because they didn't close their borders as soon as they realised there was a new virus on the loose.

This is such a false argument to me. You want to blame China for not closing their borders, but why not blame every other country for not closing theirs? Every other country left theirs open.

It’s not as simple to just blame one country.

We all need to own our parts in this.

Including those going out and living life because “we aren’t on lockdown yet”.

SirChenjin Wed 01-Apr-20 21:49:49

Does it matter? It’s all just words. We are where we are for reasons we’ll all disagree on. The stark fact is that we are on course for an absolute disaster of nightmare proportions from those extrapolated figures based on all the available data. Just hope and pray and whatever else you do that they are wrong on this occasion.

Eglantine21 Wed 01-Apr-20 21:35:20

And as Joelsnan said above, Robert Preston added a PPS to his article

Eglantine21 Wed 01-Apr-20 21:32:49

Umm, don’t know how to do links but it’s there in his twitter feed.

SirChenjin Wed 01-Apr-20 21:27:22

Had anyone been watching the extended news coverage on Sky that’s just been on which showed the extrapolated figures? We’re actually now on track to overtake Italy. It was incredibly sobering viewing sadsad
