Personally I have never known anyone with such a bizarre outlook.

Meghan was warmly welcomed to the UK.

Her behaviour means that not everyone is quite as enamoured any more. This does not mean they are racist. To throw that out is sheer ignorance.

Have you heard of Sara Forbes Bonetta? She was rescued by the British Navy and ended up being goddaughter to Queen Victoria so it clearly wasn't a problem to the Royals then

I think we all have people in the public eye we're not keen on. Personally I'm not a fan of Holly Willoughby. Beautiful woman but she just isn't my cup of tea. Amanda Holden gets dreadful comments on GN. Why? It isn't racism.

All I can say about Meghan is the only place I read endless comments about her is on GN and the Daily Mail.

My adult children have zero interest in her.
None of my peers discuss her. Colleagues - no interest at all. They are an irrelevance in most people's lives.

It just appears to be the online community that either wants to berate the woman or berate those who criticise.

And that's my final word on the subject as it is bewildering me.

I am not familiar with the term 'woke'. One cannot fail, however, to recognise the regular gang of racism insult throwers. Reminds one of a bunch of spiteful school girls.

times have changed, and it is now quite fashionable/ edgy to be able to claim black/irish/jewish/ etc heritage.
i can well understand teenagers wanting to lay claim to a more interesting heritage than just vanilla boring white uk.

Agreed- and then there is the other side, and the assumption of others. If a mixed race person is white, then they are considered white. This had led to my grand-daughter being misdagnosed, or rather not diagnosed. If a mixed race person is light brown, they are assumed to be 'mixed race', but if they are darker, they are often assumed to be black.

As in Trevor Noah, a South African comedian, now living in the USA - and who wrote an amazing book about his childhood as a mixed race kid in Apartheid Soweto/Jburg 'Born a Crime'.

All this seemed to kick off when a couple of posters asserted that Meghan will have referred to herself as black right from the beginning.

I posted a rather good interview she gave to Elle where she states, strongly, that she is neither black nor white. She is mixed race/biracial.

As I've said before I know plenty of mixed race children/adults who say they are just that. Mixed race. They don't want either parent to feel as if they are negating half of their heritage.

Before everyone here gets their tongues in a tizzy about ethnicity (race), just take a look at your historical DNA you might well be in for a surprise - a mixture of every nationality under the sun.

Nobody has said anything remotely racist on here but of course that won’t stop the accusations flying.

Why is it that every time Meghan is criticised for her behaviour or for her latest ‘woke’ utterings, a few on here will immediately hurl accusations of racism at posters?

How many times does it have to be repeated ? People would have formed exactly the same opinion of the woman if she had been white.

As for Trevor Noah, yes it is relevant. He is identified by all as black, he identifies as black - his father is white Swiss.

Exactly merlot and particularly in the current climate. 20 years or so ago people of mixed race rarely mentioned it.

The mixed race people I know often identified as black more as they became teens.
A lot, by then, had only that to set them apart from being considered "just" white, because they realised there was more to them.

When somebody is mixed race because one parent is black and the other white, the decision to self identify as black often comes after the parents have separated.

The motives interest me. We've discussed Meghan cutting her father out of her life but I also wonder why Lewis Hamilton now self-identifies as black even though his mother is white.

His mother brought him up until the age of twelve after she and his father divorced.

Call me a cynic but career moves are not beyond the realms of possibility which strikes me as heartless.

And how daft to say that if a mixed race child identifies as black, that means they are cutting out anyone white in their family. Now, in my experience, it does happen the other way round. I know many mixed race people in the UK who do not look 'mixed race' - and they are totally ignoring, even hiding, their black roots- for all sorts of reasons.
