What a shower - they are not fit to govern the country

Following on from Boris Johnson's performance yesterday evening the comments from so many can be summed up by saying "What an idiot". Totally lacking in clarity, yet more spin designed to try make the government look better. I've been watching Good Morning Britain just now. The more we see the more it becomes apparent that they really haven't got much of a clue. Moderate Tories, Labour and others in Parliament need to force a change in government with a coalition of common sense pending a general election when the truth has come out.

The problems can be traced back to the Thatcher era when profits, privatisation and a lack of caring for society was the mantra. Brexit was just the latest example of not caring about the good of the country. Recent austerity for the sake of saving a few pence on income tax left the country unprepared for any sort of emergency let alone a pandemic.

The performance of the UK must be compared with that of Germany, South Korea and other countries who have handled the situation so much better. They have for years maintained Health and Care systems at a level with capacity to react, kept a manufacturing sector vibrant and seen an over reliance on the service sector as bad for their countries.

We should have tested from the start and where resources were limited tested where it really mattered. Assume that those in hospital with symptoms were positive and only testing those who were likely to pass the infection on. The true of deaths can only be estimated based on compariing this year's figures with those of recent years.

It will take years for Britain to regain the status it squandered away. We have the talent, may have the right type of leadership in some as yet less well known politicians. No quick fix just a slow gradual return to values that really matter.

So write to / email your MP's asking them to take a lesson from 1940 and form a government of National Unity, cancel Brexit and call a general election when and only when the situation is properly under control. Only parliament, if they have the courage, can call the executive to account.

Sorry, that was obviously a typo error, well, to most of us anyway, but in the interest of clarity for the uninformed was Balliol! (It's an Oxford College, for additional clarity!)
Most people who go to Eton have family connections, so not much of an advantage for special treatment in fact none at all!
Gosh GG13, do you think so? Surely not!!!!??

I do find it amusing that on the majority of forums including GN, twitter etc., the personal insults emanate from those who's allegiances are left leaning.

One could almost think that they were smarting from losing elections and a referendum?

Glorybee I would also define myself as a decent person with the qualities you quote. I would also like to add pride and conscientiousness especially when making life choices. There are many who continue to bring children into the world that they cannot afford to feed. They feel that it is the governments responsibility to provide for them and not their own. Their lack of the qualities you quote is hard to believe.

Other than human, female and Welsh, I don’t apply labels to myself - political or religious. I actually believe people can be kind, caring and generous at all points of the spectrum.

The unkind, uncaring and mean are everywhere as well - beware those who say one thing in public but do another in private.

GagaJo Sat 16-May-20 13:35:10

I wish we had other emoji's on here SCJ. You're on fire today. Never mind LOL, I did actually do a loud snigger!

SirChenjin Sat 16-May-20 13:33:22

They appear to be on par with your maths.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 16-May-20 13:32:32

Nothing wrong with my morals or my sense of justice.

SirChenjin Sat 16-May-20 13:30:34

It really is. I imagine it’s where he learned the rest of his circus skills.

GagaJo Sat 16-May-20 13:28:32

LOL SCJ. I was going to let THAT one go.

Quite apt for BJ really.

GagaJo Sat 16-May-20 13:27:53

Did I mention History? He got a 2.1. Other students got 1st. BJ was disappointed with his 2.1. He knew it wasn't a great result.

Talk down to me all you like. I currently have 3 ex students at Oxford. One of whom is reading my subject. None at Cambridge at the moment admittedly. Your arrogance is distasteful.

SirChenjin Sat 16-May-20 13:26:02

Balloon College?

Not one I’m familiar with. Perhaps that’s why Gaga isn’t either?

SirChenjin Sat 16-May-20 13:22:20

Sepsis deaths - 48000 plus per year

Covid deaths since March 12th - almost 34000

Road traffic accidents (no doubt including those hit by buses) - under 2000 per year

CVD deaths per year (including hear attacks, stroke, etc) - 167000 per year

Someone needs to redo their maths (and it’s not me)

Jabberwok Sat 16-May-20 13:19:11

No gaga Jo Two-One in Greats is not the same as as a. ordinary 2nd class degree in History! Requirements or an in-depth knowledge of Latin and or Ancient Greek is very different from a knowledge of the South Sea Bubble! As for obtaining an Kings Scholarship through family connections?!! Err NO!! You clearly have very little knowledge of this and of Balloon College, or Oxford generally!

Glorybee Sat 16-May-20 13:18:59

The word ‘Tories’ is spat out with such venom regularly on here, meant as an insult but like you with ‘lefties’, I don’t take it as an insult. I am also a decent person with good morals and values who cares about social justice. It’s laughable that the left think they have ownership of social justice. There are a great many hues of political belief and why people have the views they do.

GagaJo Sat 16-May-20 13:14:11

Funny that GG13, I had a 20% chance of dying from cancer and yet I'm still not putting myself at risk of C19.

Exactly SirChenjin. It has entirely positive connotations! Caring. Social conscience. Vote with the vulnerable in our society in mind rather than my own pocket.

Socially/financially, I should be right-wing. Morally, I'm left.

SirChenjin Sat 16-May-20 13:08:36

I do enjoy watching the Tories throw the term ‘leftie’ around in the mistaken belief that it’s an insult. I’m proud to be left of centre - it means that I’m a decent person with good morals and values who cares about social justice. If I found myself agreeing with anything that came out of the nasty mouths of Cummings, Mogg and Bozza I’d be giving my head a wobble.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 16-May-20 13:07:26

Message from the Conservatives - let's slowly get the Country working with a sense of normality, along with minimalising our risks and using common sense.

Message from Labour - lets close U.K. PLC down, pay everyone to stay at home for the foreseeable future.

You are more likely to be die by being run over by a bus, have a heart attack, stroke, cancer or sepsis than you are from Covid-19.

GagaJo Sat 16-May-20 13:06:52

A 2.1 and an upper second is the same thing. 2nd class.

If he should have got a first, he would have done. He didn't.

I think a little more than copy and paste from Quora is needed if you want more than one other person on the internet's opinion.

He may have been a scholar but WASN'T regarded as being as bright as the other scholar's implying his family connections played a role in getting him there.

Grany Sat 16-May-20 13:03:40

Ha Ha well said GagaJo

Janpt Sat 16-May-20 13:00:43

Whitewavemark2 Just shows how ignorant you are.

GagaJo Sat 16-May-20 13:00:13

I think you'll find it is ONLY the Tories on here banging on about Labour losing the election.

The lefties are more concerned with the thousands of British people losing their lives.

Grany Sat 16-May-20 12:59:20

We are furious because Johnson and co are all for the big corporations big business a small state everyone else public sector workers we all rely can go whistle, not given a pay rise unessessary austerity And are selling off our NHS I think thats a lot to be going with, to think about don't you?

Glorybee Sat 16-May-20 12:57:55

Jabberwok - very well put, I can’t really be bothered anymore, although I do generally read the political stuff and it can be amusing seeing the lefties ‘at it’, although always so, so predictable.

Janpt Sat 16-May-20 12:55:53

Jabberwok Thanks for your support. I'm not bothered about their opinions of me or of Boris Johnson and the Conservative party. I'm just so glad that Corbyn and his Marxist cronies didn't win.

Bridgeit Sat 16-May-20 12:51:19

Well in my opinion no amount of academic qualifications are sufficient without a huge dose of common senses, which sadly seems to me to be particularly lacking in many of our politicians.
