Lucy Allen, Maria Caulfield, Nadine Dorries - oh dear

These three Tory women MPs retweeted a doctored video about Starmer which libelled him. Oh dear oh dear - don’t know what happened behind the scenes but MC has now deleted her whole account snd the other two have deleted the tweet. None has apologised. One might almost think that this was Cummings dead cat because of Johnson’s appalling failures yesterday. All of them are too stupid to remember Starmer is a QC.

suziewoozie Fri 15-May-20 19:12:20

Iam this tweet was nothing to do with what the 3 women knew or didn’t know. They were under orders from No 10 to throw a dead cat on the table because of the pasting Johnson had received from Starmer at PMQs. This will be the first of many such examples

This is one perspective:

Thanks Calendar-that makes sense now.
I was sorry to see this doctored video being shared by three MPs. Poor show! Also shocking that they didn't know that Keir Starmer and Afzal Nazir did so much during their work at the DPP/CPS to improve the way these complex investigations are run

SirChenjin Fri 15-May-20 12:49:40

It was certainly on the BBC website under its headlines smile

Calendargirl Fri 15-May-20 12:35:23

I didn’t mean anything with my comment Iam64

I had read about this on GN, and when I watched the 6 news, which we always do, was surprised it wasn’t mentioned as the post said it had been on several news items earlier.

That’s all, no hidden agenda, honest.

suziewoozie Fri 15-May-20 12:30:48

Calendar rhe fact it wasn’t on the 6 o’clock BBC news is precisely the same reason why I stopped watching BBC news about 3 years ago.

Iam64 Fri 15-May-20 08:35:32

Can you expand on that comment please Calendargirl?

Calendargirl Fri 15-May-20 07:16:54

Didn’t see anything about this on the 6 o’clock news last night.

Furret Fri 15-May-20 07:15:01

Well at least they have all been rebuked by their own party. But how disgusting that this trio didn’t have the integrity or common sense to realise the consequences of their action.

The compiler of this particular video is a member of a far right group who has a history of such offences. His anti-Islamic one is truly sick. The odd thing is these people are fully aware they are spreading lies so their aim is to recruit those with similar opinions and leaning - which doesn’t say much for the ‘ladies’ involved in this scam.

growstuff Fri 15-May-20 01:16:42

If Johnson thinks he has been libelled, he has every right to object, just as Starmer presumably has done, given that the three MPs involved have been formally rebuked by the Conservative Whips.

The accusation against Starmer has been one doing the rounds of right-wing posters on social media for some time and I hope it will now stop.

suziewoozie Thu 14-May-20 22:26:43

oscaro after reading your post, I rest my case.
PS ‘you lot’ ??????

Iam64 Thu 14-May-20 20:09:42

Thanks grannyactivist, Im with you in hoping that this ridiculous sharing of a 2013 doctored interview with Keir Starmer will finally lead to the mistruths about his role in the failure to prosecute Saville or later, the grooming gangs being once and for all dismissed.
Anyone with even the briefest knowledge of. child protection/safeguarding will be well aware of the truth.

Luckygirl Thu 14-May-20 19:49:19

Do we really need political point-scoring and machinations at a time like this? I think not.

SirChenjin Thu 14-May-20 19:46:53

Nothing about them would surprise me Jaycee5. Why were they retweeting anything from a known far right winger anyway?

lemongrove Thu 14-May-20 19:41:55

Oscaro11 grin

Haven’t seen or heard these tweets, but seems that all politicians ( along with everybody else) should really learn to
Check facts before they twitter away, especially when it relates
To anything that could well be libellous.....but they all do it!!

Jaycee5 Thu 14-May-20 19:33:40

One of the issues was that they used a derogatory term for people with learning difficulties. That was part of the backlash.

SirChenjin Thu 14-May-20 19:32:52

No need - you’re doing a great job of that on your own.

oscaro11 Thu 14-May-20 19:29:01

I’m not infatuated with him. I hope I never see his feet perfumed or not. However.....coming from a family where the parents held the same beliefs as you lot and watching them blindly led by the Mirror and people like you I have followed a different path. I also believe in fairness and balance and this thread and others under this grouping are just a vehicle for the Labour Party and a firm of indoctrination. Now slag me off why don’t you.
.

suziewoozie Thu 14-May-20 18:54:53

And the average right winger is totally incapable of understanding the difference between libel and criticism.

suziewoozie Thu 14-May-20 18:53:31

Mazie the Johnson worshipers are so infatuated with him that everything he says, does, is beyond perfection. He is not to be criticised, he is to be lauded, his feet kissed and perfumed etc etc you get my point.

MaizieD Thu 14-May-20 18:49:37

Oh, for heavens sake, Joelsnan. Don't you know the difference between libel and pointing out the truth? The thing about Johnson is that the derogatory things said about him are actually true. Find us something that isn't...

The doctored video of the Starmer interview was libellous in intent.

Joelsnan Thu 14-May-20 17:51:00

It is quite interesting that the unmerciful Boris Bashing is almost considered sport, yet when a bit of Keir calling happens, the Boris Bashers squeal foul.
Both of them aren’t up to much but it is interesting to watch from the sidelines.

growstuff Thu 14-May-20 16:36:40

Well, the story made it to the headlines on the BBC, ITV and Sky, so I hope that people will see them for what they are.

grannyactivist Thu 14-May-20 16:26:32

I'm actually rather pleased that the shameful re-tweeting of misinformation about Starmer's role will finally expose the mendacious rumours about his actions for what they are: lies that have been perpetuated by the far right. I hope the three MP's are, at the very least, embarrassed by spreading falsehoods, and shamed that they didn't check the facts for themselves. I think all three should be censured.

Those of us who have worked in Safeguarding (Child Protection) have often seethed at the injustice of the situation when the man who has done so much, (possibly more than any other) to protect the interests of the victims of child abuse has been lied about so that people are duped into thinking the opposite is true. Now, finally, the lies have been exposed and people have the true facts available.

growstuff Thu 14-May-20 15:51:47

I've seen screenshots of their Tweets, which were identical, so presumably were coordinated. The originator of the video (whose Twitter account has now been deleted) has a history of extreme right-wing posts.

Considering the number of Tweets which were recycled of supposedly anti-Semitic posts and other stuff, those three need to be held to account.

I always did think they were fairly awful human beings, but they've gone down even further in my estimation. Lucy Allen was involved in some dodgy stuff a couple of years ago, including alleged bullying of her PA and lying about death threats - it was all hushed up.

I don't think Starmer will sue, but he's mature, intelligent and knowledgeable of the law enough to deal with it.
