Wow! Starmer owns a field. Clearly not fit to be leader

The rag known as the daily mail has clearly been scrabbling around to try and find some dirt on Starmer.

What did they find?

The astonishing news that Starmer purchased the field next to his parents house in order that they could keep donkeys.

He did so apparently by earning the outrageous fee as barrister of £400 ph.

Absolutely shocking don’t you think?

I was looking for an insightful, topical discussion WhiteWave; one where the contributions were from opposing sides perhaps, but nevertheless civil and informative. It's not on this thread though. And you're a tad late to be warning people to be careful about descending into personal posts; the damage has already been done for one member.

Quizqueen The DM does have its uses. When I was travelling regularly between the UK and France I always picked up the freebie at the airport, invariably the DM which was the fattest of the tabloids because I had an occasionally incontinent elderly dog plus a puppy who wasn't house trained. The best use for it IMO.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 17-May-20 12:19:48

What I would like to say however.

Be careful when you descend to personal posts.

You don’t know what hurt you are causing.

Much better to address the debate. If you find it too tedious, stop reading and commenting.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 17-May-20 12:16:37

jennifer thank you. You had no reason to know of course

chewbacca you seem to have time to read the posts.

I shall continue as will all of us on the politics thread to post with news items.

Interestingly, the estate on which Rothermere's house in Wiltshire was built used to belong to the Duke and Duchess of Hamilton. The Duchess, Nina, co founder of the Animal Defence and Anti Vivisection Society, ran it has an animal sanctuary in WW2. It was to provide a haven to where well off London families could evacuate their pets.

Nina's will stipulated that the estate should be used as a refuge in perpetuity. The clauses were so stringent that, to be brief, the sanctuary moved to Chard, in Somerset.

We have a one acre field. Still waiting for the people who normally cut it to turn up.

Anyone got a spare donkey?

Chewbacca Sun 17-May-20 12:07:48

There is a parallel between the Daily Fail scrabbling around looking for non newsworthy items to publish in their rag and GN posters who have little else to do with their time but to go searching them out. And then inflicting their finds on here. Both are tedious.

Rosalyn69 Sun 17-May-20 12:07:26

I like Keir Starmer. I’d pay him £400 an hour. ?

JenniferEccles Sun 17-May-20 12:07:18

Oh good heavens WWM2 I am SO sorry.
How dreadful for you,
Please accept my apologies and condolences.

Trying to demean people who may like to read the Daily Mail by calling it a 'rag' is almost like Hilary Clinton calling those who voted for Trump 'deplorables'. She alienated a large proportion of the American voting population and, I believe, the Mail is one of the top selling daily newspapers in the UK, while the Guardian, which almost everyone likes to quote on here as gospel truth, has dwindling sales. Looks like the majority of gransnetters are on the losing side again. It's getting to be quite a habit now.

Anyway the point about Sir Keir Stammer is that, as he is someone who is quite rich with a posh profession, does he understand the 'deserving poor' working class he claims to represent? He also went to a Grammar School, tut, tut. Boris, on the other hand, was born a toff and is now head of a Toff Party so he has to be the devil incarnate, doesn't he!

Whitewavemark2 Sun 17-May-20 11:52:14

Even after Starmer’s mum lost the ability to walk, she was able to watch the donkeys from her window.

I think the whole thing shows what a thorough decent man Keir Starmer is.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 17-May-20 11:46:15

jennifer I was nursing my dying mother. She died on 13 January, with me holding her hand.

Anything else you wish to know?

CherryCezzy Sun 17-May-20 11:42:24

If the field he owns was bought I 1996 that was 24 years ago. I know that some people do "sit on" land before selling it at prime price for housing development but he has had a long time to choose to do this.

Just like the poster up thread, Rosalyn, many individuals own fields and have various reasons for doing it. It is fairly commonplace in the area I live in. Not one of the people I know who have fields had or have any plans to sell them for housing developments.

The story may be interesting but is it a public interest story? It could become one possibly but it doesn't appear to be one yet.

Ah JE, reluctant to enjoy a bit of humour I see. Lighten up, luv!

JenniferEccles Sun 17-May-20 11:11:18

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

dianne2265 Sun 17-May-20 10:38:10

I could understand the Mail complaining if he made £400 per hour using his body but his brain. They should just get real!

Maggiemaybe Sun 17-May-20 10:32:58

Good God. shock Bought a field. (Might have) got something wrong in his career. Earns a lot.

The man's a monster!

Get your pitchforks out, ladies. And don't forget your bundles of faggots for the bonfire.

MaizieD Sun 17-May-20 10:27:10

My favourite tweet about this story so far:

@eyepatchziggy

Can't believe #KeirStarmer built a prison for donkeys outside his disabled mother's window. Just to taunt her. And now he wants 10 million quid for it?!?!! Sick.

MoS comments I've seen aren't particularly flattering - to the MoS

EllanVannin Sun 17-May-20 10:18:43

Gillybob I'm glad you highlighted Starmer's term when he was with the DPP, as I'm following a " cold case " of murder from back in 1985 , a case that Starmer wasn't particularly conversant with but when he became chief prosecutor had said point blank that the "accused " was the murderer.
Prit Patel also concurred at the time, again, without knowing all the facts. How can they ?

A hearing took place in high court on May 1st and because so much information had been withheld from this crime and the case was adjourned until the 29th of May.

If this case proves that an innocent man has been incarcerated for nearly 35 years I wonder if Starmer and Patel too will offer their apologies to this man for " getting it so wrong ". I can't wait !

Rosalyn69 Sun 17-May-20 10:17:16

Goodness me I own two fields. What does that make me?
Is this the green eyed monster showing his teeth?
Still I don’t suppose Jeremy Corbyn owned a field.

Greeneyedgirl Sun 17-May-20 10:17:07

Isn't the DMs job to try to discredit Labour Leaders, particularly if they appear to be gaining in popularity and their man is struggling?

Sign of encouragement for the Labour Party I would say.

Cindersdad Sun 17-May-20 10:10:49

Kier Starmer is not perefct but less imperfect than others and our best hope for a better class of politicians. Seeing Michael Gove on Andrew Marr right now he does not inspire confidence, still blatantly ducking issues.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 17-May-20 10:03:25

I adore donkeys. They are so gentle

gillybob Sun 17-May-20 10:01:43

Slightly off topic but did anyone live in fear of “getting brayed” when they were kids? I know I did . grin

gillybob Sun 17-May-20 10:00:15

I don’t think there are any timetogo2016 . Not that I think they should be (poor that is ). Just open, honest and understanding . Can’t think of any that fit that criteria either.
