Will he resign?

News breaking tonight that Dominic Cummings and his wife, when ill with Covid-19, put their child in the car and drove 260 miles from London to Durham so that they could isolate at his parent's place and his parents look after the child. This happened some time after 27th March. Remember lockdown was imposed on 23rd March.

Seen in his parent's garden with his child on 5th April.

Neil Fergusson resigned because his lover visited his house after lockdown.

Scotland's Chief Medical Officer had to resign after visiting her second home twice after lockdown.

Cummings and his wife drive 260 miles to stay with his parents (who must be in their 60s at the very least)... What will he do?

Story is in most of the MSM now.

Whether Dominic Cummings stays, resigns or is sacked I'm afraid one of the greatest casualties of this farce is the public's understanding of how the rules can now be applied. Sadly, Dr. Jennie Harries' integrity will now be called into question as she seems to have compromised the rules with her new caveats about safeguarding.

Never thought I'd live to see the day that I'd agree with Piers Morgan:

He tweeted: "If Boris doesn’t fire Cummings today, then I will deem the Lockdown over & drive down to see my parents (from a 2m distance) for the first time in 12 weeks.

"I’m not having one rule for these clowns & another for the rest of us."

FarNorth Sat 23-May-20 19:15:41

Baffling isn't it, Nannatwiglet?
Maybe just because they wanted to, and believe that the law doesn't apply to them.

FarNorth Sat 23-May-20 19:17:52

If people do as Piers suggests, and start disregarding the rules - perhaps that is exactly what this excuse for a government wants.
Then they can blame the public for a surge in the virus.

MissAdventure Sat 23-May-20 19:19:05

I often agree with Piers, big mouth that he is.

Dinahmo Sat 23-May-20 19:33:36

FarNorth I think you're right. They do want the public to disobey the rules. Then they can say that everyone can go back to work /school etc. There won't be enough work in several areas which gives employers the opportunity to make redundancies. When the economy starts to pick up again employers will be able to re-hire at lower salaries.

Does anyone remember when IKEA did it? Many years ago at least one of the stores made all the staff redundant. The store then offered new jobs with new contracts and lower wages.

how unfortunate that all this illness co-incided with his mother's 71st birthday.
wonder if they had a trip planned, before all this lockdown.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-May-20 19:44:27

Fiction becomes fact

MissAdventure Sat 23-May-20 19:48:01

Piers has also been tweeting back and forth with other MPs who have defended Cummings, pointing out the discrepancies in the reasons given for the visit.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-May-20 19:54:35

The Mirror is reporting that he has been back to Durham more than once

Cindersdad Sat 23-May-20 19:54:40

He's a teflon coated torag. Boris's puppet master so he will not be forced out unless there is a coup to oust Boris. Both of them should tried for treason.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-May-20 19:57:58

If it is true that he has been back and forth to Durham, the cabinet have been changing the rules on the hoof for nothing.

Surely Cummings is toast?

GGumteenth Sat 23-May-20 20:06:27

Never thought I'd live to see the day that I'd agree with Piers Morgan:

Morgan is ensuring his next paycheque. I am not sure what others expect to gain from doing something that is against their own interests. Does this stupid man need to be followed by our stupidity? Really?

Take a look at Ed Davey MP ??? #StayHomeSaveLives #ProtectNHS (@EdwardJDavey): twitter.com/EdwardJDavey?s=09

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-May-20 20:07:44

He was also spotted visiting beauty spots whilst supposedly in isolation.

If that it true then the government has spent the day knowingly giving false statements to the British public and worse Braverman The Attorney General who is supposed to give non- political advise has taken part in false information.

Blimey!!

Chewbacca Sat 23-May-20 20:08:37

Devastating new claims have emerged that Dominic Cummings further breached the lockdown rules, as Downing Street came under sustained pressure to fire the prime minister’s most senior adviser. The new testimony suggests Cummings left the home where he was staying in Durham to visit a town 30 miles away. He was allegedly spotted back in Durham on 19 April, days after he was photographed in London having recovered from the virus.

Lies upon lies upon lies. They've told so many they don't know where they're up to any more. angry

paddyanne Sat 23-May-20 20:33:33

Cummings obviously knows where the bodies are buried, maybe he has the "lost" VIPaedofiles ...skeletons may well come tumbling out of closets IF Boris mans up and sacks him.Though he probably has so much on BOjo he cant sack him!!

SueDonim Sat 23-May-20 20:51:18

I said to Dh that surely Cummings could have asked friends to look after the child in London, if needs be. Dh replied that he won’t have had any friends.

When you think how many ordinary people, me included, are agonising over whether we can visit vulnerable relatives and the number of people who have died alone because family haven’t been permitted to see them, it’s utterly, utterly despicable. angry

Barmeyoldbat Sat 23-May-20 20:52:27

The sad part of this saga of lies is all the people, many of them GN, who have waned to help their sons and daughters look after their children or visit them. We have followed the rules but I am afraid many people will now say why are we doing this when THEY bend the rules to suit themselves. I look forward to PM Question Time on Wednesday to see how Boris turns this around.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-May-20 20:54:33

They are on leave barmey .

Johnson must be so relieved

growstuff Sat 23-May-20 20:55:13

Barmeyoldbat Parliament is in recess.

NfkDumpling Sat 23-May-20 20:57:38

Perhaps eventually the press will dig far enough to find out what Cummings has on Boris. It must be big!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-May-20 21:04:03

I wonder how far back you would have to go to find such a government?

ExD Sat 23-May-20 21:06:46

Regardless of politics, I think he should step down. He broke the rules and was found out - Boris should send him packing.

Grannynannywanny Sat 23-May-20 21:07:49

NfkDumpling..
They’ve certainly got the bit firmly between their teeth today. Piers Morgan is loving every minute of it.

I normally find him a complete turn off but he has made some good points today. He’s certainly not going to let it rest.
