Will he resign?

News breaking tonight that Dominic Cummings and his wife, when ill with Covid-19, put their child in the car and drove 260 miles from London to Durham so that they could isolate at his parent's place and his parents look after the child. This happened some time after 27th March. Remember lockdown was imposed on 23rd March.

Seen in his parent's garden with his child on 5th April.

Neil Fergusson resigned because his lover visited his house after lockdown.

Scotland's Chief Medical Officer had to resign after visiting her second home twice after lockdown.

Cummings and his wife drive 260 miles to stay with his parents (who must be in their 60s at the very least)... What will he do?

Story is in most of the MSM now.

Yes Caro57 I agree; in those cicumstances I would also be very keen to do all I could to get my child into the most secure and safe situation possible - my own house, with my child's aunt or other responsible person helping to look after them there, not take a 250 mile journey to another house! Beggars belief.

Ed Davey has a disabled child, also [I don't know the age or details]. And he thinks that what Cummings did was wrong.

MissAdventure Sun 24-May-20 21:33:06

I made this point in the beginning; most people could find reasons why their particular circumstances are special, but they're usually not, actually.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 21:33:39

It keeps on coming

Chewbacca Sun 24-May-20 21:37:14

Yes, they've got his car registration WWMK2

MissAdventure Sun 24-May-20 21:38:21

Good. He has been instrumental in the dismantling of everything that has been done so far.

Luckygirl Sun 24-May-20 21:38:31

This is not trial by media. The basic fact is not in dispute: he drove to Durham when he knew his wife had the virus and that he was likely to get it. Breaking the rules. Simple.

Curlywhirly Sun 24-May-20 21:39:00

Whitewavemark2 oh dear, that's put the cat among the pigeons. Surely, as it is not an anonymous post, that can be followed up by the police and verified?

merlotgran Sun 24-May-20 21:40:29

Apologies if this has already been mentioned as I've not read the whole thread but DC more than anybody would have known that Lockdown was imminent and when it was likely to be put in place. He and his wife were both well at the time.

If he had concerns about his son and who would look after him if they both became ill, why didn't he arrange for them to go straight to Durham where his family could support them even though he would have to stay in London himself?

I know quite a few members of families who for various understandable reasons positioned themselves in appropriate accommodation before the Lockdown dates.

Any sensible, caring father would have made sure there was adequate support for his family before it was too late.

Chewbacca Sun 24-May-20 21:41:12

Yes curlywhirly; the police have already confirmed that they are investigating.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 21:42:22

curlywhirly I have no doubt they are all rushing to tell the police everything they know in Barnard Castle

MayBee70 Sun 24-May-20 21:44:41

He’ll be regretting how many enemies he’s made over the years.

Curlywhirly Sun 24-May-20 21:47:27

chewbacca quite right too, lets hope the police can show just how important integrity and trust are.

Jishere Sun 24-May-20 21:48:00

Why do people still write it's trial by media? If it was untrue then why didnt he come out and state that. That would be the simplest way but he hasn't and Boris as spoken. This isn't about hating on anyone it's about being hypocritical when in a position of power. And if people like this are in power will we ever trust any thing they say again,?!No!
Everyone will do exactly what they want, just watch in the following weeks because rules are out as you should already be using your instinct. I bet some defending him will be moaning soon. They have given out too many mixed messages and this is a step to far!!
And all I think about us the sacrfices lots have made especially the NHS who it looks like won't be rewarded with a rise any time soon. Rant over night allx

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 21:51:59

The car number plates seen in Barnard Castle are confirmed as belonging to Cummings -sky news

Chewbacca Sun 24-May-20 21:56:36

Robin Lees says that he has a "photographic memory" and he remembered the registration plate and was able to report it to the police when all of this began. Good old Robin Lees.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 21:58:07

So now we have a Prime Minister, who not 5 hours ago told the country that the visits didn’t take place.

MayBee70 Sun 24-May-20 21:58:09

I’m actually afraid for him.....

MayBee70 Sun 24-May-20 21:58:38

....Robin Lees, that is....

MaizieD Sun 24-May-20 21:59:32

Blimey, OmaforMaya, bit of an unexpected attack there!

The couple needed the help for their child and that is why they made the journey probably to their nearest relatives.

Their nearest relatives appear to have been Mrs Cummings brother and sister, both of whom live in London. Check a few 'facts' yourself before launching an attack.

And read lizzypopbottle's post and feel a bit of anger at the self sacrifice and distress that following the lockdown instructions to the letter has caused in one family, then imagine it repeated in possibly thousands of families across the UK because they too were following the instructions to the letter and didn't know about the instruction tucked in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet in locked office with a notice on the door saying 'Beware of the leopard', which said that if both parents are exhibiting covid19 symptoms and have a small child it is absolutely fine for you to pop yourselves in the car and journey 250 miles so that your elderly parents can take care of your child (the sister is a later variation on the story) while you isolate yourselves.

I'm not sure which instruction said it was then absolutely right that one of you should write a touching account of your isolation ordeal with one of you immobile in bed for 10 days and you having to have sole care of your child even though you're not feeling too good yourself. Without, of course, mentioning that you were doing all this 250 miles from your actual home... or that the supposedly immobile one was spotted dancing to Abba and wandering the local woods during that 10 days..

Reading around your topic is always a good idea...

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 22:01:21

Daily Mail

Neither man has displayed a scintilla of contrition for this breach of trust. Do they think we are fools?"

Johnson is in trouble

Jane10 Sun 24-May-20 22:02:46

I simply can't understand why the cabinet are bending over backwards to defend Cummings. Part of a cunning plot to unseat Boris...

MissAdventure Sun 24-May-20 22:03:26

160 odd thousand signatures now.

Callistemon Sun 24-May-20 22:05:40

WE ARE NOT CONFUSED, BORIS.

merlotgran Sun 24-May-20 22:07:38

Boris, the definition of integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.

Doesn't quite fit DC's attitude does it? hmm
