News breaking tonight that Dominic Cummings and his wife, when ill with Covid-19, put their child in the car and drove 260 miles from London to Durham so that they could isolate at his parent's place and his parents look after the child. This happened some time after 27th March. Remember lockdown was imposed on 23rd March.

Seen in his parent's garden with his child on 5th April.

Neil Fergusson resigned because his lover visited his house after lockdown.

Scotland's Chief Medical Officer had to resign after visiting her second home twice after lockdown.

Cummings and his wife drive 260 miles to stay with his parents (who must be in their 60s at the very least)... What will he do?

Story is in most of the MSM now.

There are several Petitions onChange.org actually.I signed them all!!

I have just watched a news report showing a Dominic Cummings leaving his home, his behaviour is disgraceful,so rude and dismissive.

He has to go,but no sign of it so far.

Apart from what he did with regards to the virus,he has his mucky fingers involved in several companies, that have got Government contracts, thanks to his involvement.

Stephen Kinnock is not running the country or making the rules. Demonic Cummings is. SK was totally honest and transparent. Even had a film of him sitting in his parents front garden. I personally am doing similar with my family now and I’m thinking of taking youngest GC to park next week to give parents a break. Just because I think I’ve more common sense than the rule makers.

A song for Cummings- it's hilarious!

A couple in their situation had no other way to arrange childcare ??
As I said on the other thread I personally know a family with two small children plus newborn where mother was told to isolate within the home as there had been a positive CV case in the maternity ward. So dad had to look after all three for two weeks. Both sets of grAndparents live 200 miles away and obeyed the rules.

Tweedle24 Sat 23-May-20 16:00:41

I have never said I thought he did the right thing. He did break the rules. However, if his version is true (ie aunt caring for child and he and his wife staying in separate accommodation), then, given no other alternative, I would have been tempted to do the same thing.

None of us were there so we cannot know which version is the correct one.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-May-20 16:01:06

One thing for sure. This wretched government has lost all moral authority to tell us what to do In relation to lockdown etc.

MissAdventure Sat 23-May-20 16:01:09

What exactly was their situation?
They don't even seem that sure themselves.

Curlywhirly Sat 23-May-20 16:04:29

Tweedle24 but surely there was a very good alternative, one that didn't involve breaking the rules - his sister came down to London to look after her nephew - simples.

growstuff Sat 23-May-20 16:07:48

So why did his wife write the nauseating article in the Spectator, unless it was intended to deceive? Nobody would have forced her to write it.

The Durham police have reported speaking to Cummings warning him that he was breaking the lockdown rules.

Dominic Cummings denies that he was ever spoken to by the Durham police.

Who do we believe?

Lucca Sat 23-May-20 16:13:17

Randomly looked at the daily briefing to see some chap banging on about the railways dr.beeching, and widening the A66..........

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-May-20 16:15:59

I think that if a member of government Calls the police liars when they patently are not is completely crossing the line. This is something governments have never done - to undermine the security forces.

There will be paperwork to back the police up.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-May-20 16:16:54

lucca that’s Mr Green.

At least he’s keeping to not having his hair cut rules.

Tweedle24 Sat 23-May-20 16:21:56

Curlywhirly My point really is that none of us was there. We do not know the full story. The whole thing could be a pack of lies for all we know but, it could be that they, at the time, felt they had no alternative.

If his story is mainly fabrication, then he should no longer be in his position. Only a full investigation can answer that.

It's very convenient that the news broke just at the start of the recess. However, it seems that many Tory MPs who dislike DC may call for his sacking. It's only a few days since Johnson and Patel did a U-turn over the additional payments that immigrant workers in the NHS and care sector at the behest of Tory MPs (apart from the cabinet)

Hancock has also said that there were mitigating circumstances. So what.

There should be a revolt by all those GPs who refrained from seeing their GCs because they were following the rules.

Doodledog Sat 23-May-20 16:26:14

The wriggling on the Press Briefing is disgraceful.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-May-20 16:26:28

The gaslighting is ridiculous

Whitewavemark2 Sat 23-May-20 16:31:23

Anyone heard of the “safeguarding clause”? First I’ve heard of it. They are making up as they go along

Oopsadaisy3 Sat 23-May-20 16:31:36

I hope all of the questions are about DC!
Wriggling like a worm on a hook, it really is disgraceful

Daisymae Sat 23-May-20 16:33:26

'who cares?' is Cummings response. Which just about sums up the contempt for the public.

varian Sat 23-May-20 16:36:32

"the PM provides Mr Cummings with his full support"

J52 Sat 23-May-20 16:37:29

Cummings is a Government minister who could have hired a nurse, fully equipped with PPE.

The general public are being patronised and treated as mugs!

I feel for those who couldn’t be with their loved ones in their final hours and who are lonely and scared without their family contact.

Greeneyedgirl Sat 23-May-20 16:45:33

The current advice from the government has single handedly been totally demolished.

Daisymae Sat 23-May-20 16:46:40

The responses are simply unbelievable. How stupid do they think that the public is? It's quite clear that the rules were broken.

Ilovecheese Sat 23-May-20 16:50:21

I thought that Jennie Harries woman was someone that we could trust, but just listened to her saying that travelling in a family group in a car was safe, glossing over the fact that that would only be the case in unbroken journeys.
What a disappointment that even she cannot be trusted to be honest.
