Hypocrite: teacher who reported Cummings

Amazing how Robin Lees can report DC for allegedly breaking the CV rules. While in the middle of April, he had driven from his home in Barnard Castle, 250 miles to collect his daughter from another household and bring her back to his household.
What an hypocrite!
Also, the “key witness” who claimed to have seen DM back in Durham 5 days after he had returned to London, has now admitted he was lying.
Hypocrite and Liar!

growstuff Sun 31-May-20 12:54:53

Even if everybody broke lockdown rules (and apparently 50% did, according to some survey), it really is no excuse either legally or morally.

growstuff Sun 31-May-20 12:53:34

Driving with impaired vision is not a minor infringement. It's an offence under the Road Traffic Act, but I expect Durham Police would have found it impossible to get a conviction in retrospect. Cummings would probably just have changed his story anyway.

growstuff Sun 31-May-20 12:49:47

Hmm! So if I take my car for a drive and break the speed limit without hitting anybody or being in an accident, is that OK? Do you think the police would accept the "Cummings excuse" that it's OK if I don't harm anybody?

FarNorth Sun 31-May-20 12:47:36

maddyone have you spotted that Mr Lees was indeed acting within the rules?

FarNorth Sun 31-May-20 12:46:08

What difference would it make to the DC situation if Mr Lees had CV and ran round the streets naked?
He reported the truth about DC.

If I report a crime, which turns out to be true, it doesn't matter if I have also committed crimes. The thief, vandal, or whatever is still guilty.

MissAdventure Sun 31-May-20 12:45:07

I think he did exactly the right thing.

maddyone Sun 31-May-20 12:44:14

The ex teacher would have done well to have kept his council and not reported DC. These things have a habit of coming back to bite you on the bum. Silence is, as they say, golden.

FarNorth Sun 31-May-20 12:41:22

Thanks for that info, MaizieD.

Btw, I don't see the relevance of the abusive journalist. confused

MissAdventure Sun 31-May-20 12:41:22

Mr. Lees himself is insistent that he didn't break any of the rules.
Not that it necessarily means he hasn't, but there doesn't seem to have been a breach according to the written guidelines.

MaizieD Sun 31-May-20 12:33:36

And, as you see, trisher, he didn't 'break the rules'

MaizieD Sun 31-May-20 12:32:50

Just as a matter of interest, the journalist is Harry Coles. Carrie Symonds' ex-partner.

trisher Sun 31-May-20 12:32:34

So Rosie Duffield is discovered to have broken the rules and resigned. Did she do the right thing?
Cummings is discovered to have broken the rules twice and doesn't resign. Did he do the right thing?
The retired teacher is an irrelevance he can't resign.

MaizieD Sun 31-May-20 12:30:45

Hmm.

Here’s what the article says: “A retired teacher who reported Dominic Cummings to the police for allegedly breaking lockdown rules has admitted driving 250 miles to collect his daughter … Robin Lees drove from his home in Barnard Castle, County Durham, to pick up his student daughter, Elizabeth, who had been self-isolating at her boyfriend’s home in Ascot, Berkshire, after returning from an extended study trip to Canada”.

But, the government guidance said:

“If a student is opting to change their primary residence for the purpose of the emergency period to live back at their family home, this is permitted”.

Of course Annie but she was now scared it would ‘come out’
So came clean on it.I expect many people in this country have been breaking rules from the start.
In my view, Cummings was quite right to do what he thought was best for childcare, given that he wasn’t affecting anyone else, but wrong to drive to Barnard Castle after the two week isolation period ( for whatever reason he did that.)
That’s a minor infringement though and certainly not worth losing your job over.
The teacher who told the police about Cummings has done
The same hasn’t he? Since an older man, his own child wasn’t four years old either.
The man who lied about seeing Cummings should be charged with wasting police time.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 31-May-20 12:21:50

A real charmer this “journalist” sounds.

Jo Maugham QC
@JolyonMaugham
The 'journalist' attacking the retired teacher is the same man as wrote the pathetic story about the field Keir Starmer bought for his mother and has threatened to publish my home address the week I was getting death threats.

MaizieD Sun 31-May-20 12:19:05

I expect it'll be OK if the Pope 'does' turn out to have a mistress and five kids, because lots of other people do it, Ww2 wink

Whitewavemark2 Sun 31-May-20 12:14:57

I absolutely fail to understand what difference this all makes.

Everything still stands as far as Cummings is concerned, the arguments remain valid.

Yes perhaps you could accuse someone if hypocrisy, but how does that mitigate Cummings behaviour, his lies and his obfuscation?

It doesn’t

Anniebach Sun 31-May-20 12:12:09

Wonder why it has taken so long for Rosie Duffield to resign, she must have know in April she was breaking lockdown rules

growstuff Sun 31-May-20 12:07:16

Ah well! Next time I have an eye test which involves putting drops in my eyes and I'm told not to drive, I'll take no notice and drive home anyway. If I get caught, I'll just tell the police it's "minor breach". Always good to know!

trisher Sun 31-May-20 12:05:57

And Rosie Duffield has resigned from her position as Labour whip.
If only Cummings had done the same.

sodapop Sun 31-May-20 12:00:25

Amazing how things change almost overnight. The fact remains that D.C. has a powerful influence and he should be more responsible to the Government, the country and his family.
Buffybee I don't think his son is autistic, that was an error I understand.

oldgimmer1 Sun 31-May-20 12:00:14

Maizie the "other sighting" of DC back in Durham was false but reported as fact in the press.

MaizieD Sun 31-May-20 11:55:18

I really don't see what was hypocritical about reporting the sighting of Cummings. The guy was just stating a fact. A real, factual fact which was absolutely true.

And see my last post...

MaizieD Sun 31-May-20 11:53:39

I've been struggling to find an analogy but here's mine:

Very few people are perfect and we know that the 'rules' have been broken, but in the case of Cummings it's as though the Pope has been found to have a mistress and five children.

Anniebach Sun 31-May-20 11:50:21

A lie is a lie, a hypocrite is a hypocrite
