25Avalon I think there will be a backlash but fear it will be from middle England those who have no political home and therefore no voice.........those at either extreme have tribes and are extremely vocal.

So do I, 25Avalon. Tommy Robinson is now getting involved and there's bound to be confrontation this coming weekend.

I think I'm more worried about violence than I am about the possibility of Covid19 being spread by close contact.

Beware our country is being split up and becoming divisive. I fear a lash back by right wing extremist.

Many people have broken lock down, the journalists outside DC home, shouldn't they be prosecuted? Ian Blackford for his drive to the Isle of Sky, leaving his wife in their London home, why didn't he stay in London with her?Stephen Kinnock and many others did the same but curiously only DC should lose his job?!!

Thank you for your explanation. I certainly have no argument with most of it. I agree with many others on here that Churchill was the right person for the job at the time. Appeasement of Hitler would in my opinion, have been a disaster for Europe.
My father also fought in Europe. He was assigned to the Black Watch, a Scottish regiment, although he was not a Scot. This was because they had sustained very heavy losses during D Day and onwards as they fought their way through France. My father, nearly nineteen years old, joined them as part of the reinforcements and fought in Holland, Belgium, and the Reichswald Forest in Germany, where he was eventually shot by a sniper and returned to England wounded.

Given that Covid has made people realise there are lots of safe ways to do things the protesters should have done the same. I’ve done everything I can to protect not just myself, but others, which is why I’m so annoyed. When I was on the anti brexit marches there was no violence, no litter: policemen weren’t injured etc. If people were spraying monuments in London at the weekend they must have set out to do so: you don’t think to yourself ‘I’ll just slip a spray can into my bag just in case I need it’ !

How many of those protesting are aware that the first registered slave owner in the US was a black man? I have posted this before, but it seems to have gone unnoticed.

MayBee that is how I feel about the protesters, furious that they are putting theirs and other lives at risk and jeopardising all that those of us who have observed lockdown have achieved by keeping the "R" down.

I do think DC was guilty, but I was insensed by the press and their hounding of his house where his wife (complicit) and innocent child were at home.

I agree with Maybee that the protests are understandable but I am upset at the thought that these, and trips tothe beaches etc by mainly younger people will put more lives at risk.
The vulnerable will remain in lockdown for even longer, medical staff and essential workers will be pressurised and put at even more risk and pupils' education may remain disrupted for even longer because of these actions.

I remain irate with Cummings.

I’m not.....I agree with the sentiment behind the protests but furious that they’re putting people’s lives at risk. If young people were as badly affected b the virus as old people they’d think twice about what they’re doing. I’m still furious the Cummings has got away with what he did.

IMO the context is right Whitewavemark. Apparently the film 'Gone with the Wind' has 'gone' because of it's depiction of slavery. Unfortunately so has the performance by Hattie McDaniel who won an Academy Award for best supporting actress, and was the first African American to do so.

I have noticed a pattern on the protest threads all those who were berating Dominic Cummings are supporting the protests..........one man, his wife and child in a car......spreading the virus how irresponsible..........thousands of protesters crammed together, agitators throwing missiles at police officers, hurling abuse at them (chanting dont shoot to unarmed officers?) defacing national monuments .....The later being supported?

For the record I am not a DC fan.

Blondnana, the protests are a reaction to the evil of racism, not just a response to the murder of George Floyd, his death is a catalyst, this is an outpouring, an overflow of pain at systemic oppression, not just in the US but at the lived experience of so many black people the world over

And on another contentious note. I’m not sure why so much TV Time was devoted to this overblown funeral. I exercised my rights with the off button on the remote.

gg13 what so many people are failing to grasp is that history will never be erased is is lived and experienced by people today. That is what the Black Lives Matter movement is saying.

What happened in our past should be contextualised and accurately represented.

It should not be glorified or ignored for political expediency
