The main sticking point at the moment seems to be the EU and it’s insistence of a level playing field in trade if we want a free trade deal.

The U.K. seems to want the ability to subsidise its various businesses where it wants, but of course that has always been a point in which the EU will not budge.
All EU countries do assist their businesses to a degree and whilst we were a fully paid up member we were one of the least generous to our businesses in the EU, far less generous than Germany or France, so one does wonder if the U.K. government has suddenly changed its mine.

WTO rules also apply to government financial support.

I think that the U.K. is being a tad disingenuous over this whole issue.

I believed that this year was going to be the year that countries all over the world fell over each other to sign up to trade agreements with an EU free Britain.

I think that a great many Remain voters believed that, Grandad as reassurance that 'losing' wasn't going to be a total disaster. However, as soon as it started to look unlikely, Leave voters started assuring us that they had never believed it; that they always knew it was going to be difficult at first and that they were prepared for a bit of hardship. Silly us for thinking that the Leave campaigners might have been telling the truth..

Mind you, the Leavers also pooh poohed any suggestions of hardship as 'project fear', so it's been a bit confusing for us simple souls who find it hard to reconcile contradictory ideas...

Oh, I forgot, once Britain made it clear to the EU we were leaving all twenty-seven EU member states would clammer to ensure the European Commission signed any agreement Britain demanded.

Strange then however that there is absolutely no sign of the European Union "crumbling" in their long-held stance in regard to the UK leaving.

Indeed they seem far more advanced in regard to planning for a no-deal scenario than our government is even though we are the premier country affected.

Farage boasted that the EU would be finished without the U.K. The opposite seems to be happening. They are getting stronger, whilst the £ declines and we have the lowest productivity in the G7. The U.K. will have to side with Trump and accept being the US poodle. So much for sovereignty and independence.

We would not be allowed under the withdrawal agreement to enact those new deals, but they would be "done and dusted" ready for the new worldwide ready Britain to begin trading without all the shackles of the terrible European Union.

However, what has happened. As far as I am aware not one new trade deal has been signed and Britain now contemplates tariffs on goods to and from the EU increasing costs and inefficiency, while no new trade with the rest of the world is anywhere near at hand.

I just get the feeling that Briîaing is coming out of this European withdraw with a very bad bargain unless something very big happens very rapidly.

The very same! The one who has talked many times about the superiority of the American healthcare system and who will now have a role in negotiating trade deals.

Abbott is obnoxious, but he has little knowledge of trade deals. I believe we were all supposed worked up about him, while Hannan was sneaked in without much fanfare.

I know that Rupert Murdoch who made brexit happen by spinning poisonous lies to the readers of his papers is Australian, but does that mean that the UK is now a "vassal state" of Australia?

I'm actually more concerned about Daniel Hannan's appointment to the Board of Trade. Abbott's appointment seems to have been a distraction. Hannan is, in my opinion, toxic. He has spoken many times about his wish to see the NHS Americanised and I fear that's why he's been appointed.

Why is he passionate about brexit if he’s Australian? Maybe it’s easy to be passionate about something if it isn’t actually going to affect you, your country or your children’s future?

What's in no doubt is that Mr Abbott is a passionate believer in Brexit and an Anglophile, but also that he is a political red rag to the Left.
