Because in a restaurant people are properly regulated as they are in Pubs, whereas at home? If the eight cars on the drive are to be believed, who knows how many are gathering!

Because numbers in restaurants and pubs ( mostly) are limited. Inviting the world and his wife into your home isn't.

Easter was not 'cancelled' with a couple of hours notice- it was in the middle of lock-down.

The point made in the OP is that if a new lock-down was required for some areas- it should have included the pubs too. As Growstuff says, it is the inconsistency which adds up to hypocrisy. Why should people be able to sit indoors in a restaurant, but not in their own home?

If the government had let Eid go ahead and there had been a sharp rise in cases they would have been blamed for not taking action. I think on the whole that they haven't handled things well, but I think in this case they were right.

Did the government have the courtesy to inform Muslim leaders what they were intending to do?

The problem in Manchester is that the new "lockdown" is inconsistent. People can't meet in each other's houses, but even those who have been shielded have been told to go back to work, possibly entailing a journey by public transport. They can go to a pub, claim their money off voucher for eating out and go shopping. Children will be expected to return to school next month and people can go on (and return from) holiday. Trafford, which has one of the highest infection rates, has a relatively low BAME population, but Muslims feel that they have been targeted.

My daughter lives in Manchester and didn't know what was going on until she woke up the next morning. Even now, she's not 100% sure what the law is.

It's so easy to mock! The situation with this virus changes from day to day making it impossible to have a long term plan. The government were heavily criticised originally for being slow off the mark and dithering, and are now criticised and sneered at for over-reacting , can't win!
Australia, that beacon of virtue where the virus was concerned has been hit hard again with Victoria in virtual lockdown! Who would have thought, all those lessons that idiot old us should have learnt from them clearly need another think!! GrannyGravy I think people go by the pictures in the press of all the people crammed outside the pubs in town centres. We love our local pub and were very dubious at first but very few people are venturing in there. We felt safer than we would in a shop.

Illte not in their churches or with families as it fell whilst the UK was in total lockdown.

All Christians were able to celebrate Easter.

As for Muslims not celebrating Eid yesterday. I suggest you ask the family of the policeman hospitalised in London last night after 300 Muslim youths gathered in Ilford Road, when asked to move on they turned on the Police!

You can't just go to the pub and sit with anyone. We went to our local last night. Contact details were taken at the door. We had to sanitise our hands. They have a one way system. No groups of more than five. Our group all had to enter at the same time. No one is allowed to join you at your table. No standing was allowed except for going to the bar or the toilet. We (and most other people) ordered from an app. The tables are spaced apart. Once every table is full, no one else is allowed in. If the pub is full, they limit the time you are allowed to stay. It was very well organised.
