.......anyone see his interview on the news? His insanity must now be obvious to all - surely no-one will vote for him? Just not possible............

Members of his administration and portion of his supporters have made "bank" during his first term in office- No amount of warnings would pause their desire for cold, hard cash-

Tory peer Danny Finklestein, writing in The Times, warns the Conservative Party against supporting Trump-

"Donald Trump has no interest in our view of world affairs, or anyone else’s apart from his own. And his own view is primarily shaped by whoever happens to be nice about him, or looks to him like a strong man, or who might help his chain of hotels and branded goods. He is neither interested in providing international leadership nor capable of providing even if he were. He cannot see the American interest in the health of democracy in other countries and he is positively antagonistic to free trade. It is an open question whether Nato and the World Trade Organisation would survive a Trump second term intact."

Anything and anybody is better than Trump.

I think these Democratic mayors in the cities with riots who haven’t got a grip (and condemned the rioters) will help Trump succeed.

Voters don’t like anarchy. The law abiding citizens of the USA are appalled by the ineffectual governance displayed in some of their cities.

They see all this violence and looting and don’t like it.

That is Trump’s America.

It will remain a mess no matter who is president at this point-

Due to laptop/tablet shortages, children won't even be able to be educated-

Yes, many say they don't want to pay for other people's treatment- What they don't understand is that what they pay for insurance is substantially more than what they would pay if everyone were insured and paid into the system-

In the book The Nordic Theory of Everything by Anu Partanen, she describes what it was like for her to come from Finland to the US to live- She "quickly went from confident, successful professional to wary, self-doubting mess"-

Much of her stress, as I see it, came from the frustration of dealing with corporations which is part of every day life in the United States- Corporations get away with murder here-
It's incredibly unfair to people -- but legal-

I agree. In the U.K. some people may not be keen on socialism but its not universally feared as in the US where they seem to equate it with communism. And here many are proud to be called socialists.
Americans I’ve been in contact with say that many object to paying out money for other people’s treatment. In the UK I’ve never met anyone, left or right wing, who doesn’t appreciate the NHS (though there may be criticism of the way it is currently run.) No one I know (and I know a lot of right wingers) wants to see the NHS abolished , even if they have private health insurance themselves.

We have to wait months here too Rose unless something serious is suspected but at least everyone has Equal access to health treatment. It’s the poor that suffer in the USA because they can’t afford the high insurance.
I am no clearer why the American people wouldn’t want health care for others or themselves.
Also curious why socialism seems such a dirty word. Both democrat and republicans are on the right. democrats just slightly closer but nowhere near.
We are in a mess here but instead of Everyone for him/herself we still take the one for all and all for one viewpoint .
Not sure for how long though. Our world is becoming more uncertain,

I don’t think Trump ever had it, so I’m not sure he could lose it.

I think one reason is the shortage of doctors- If everyone were covered it would take forever and a day before one could get in to see a doctor-

I had noticed that for several years there were nurse practitioners filling in- Now, they seemed to have phased them out yet again-

As it stands, it can take months to get in to see a specialist- If everyone were covered, how long would it take?

It's a mess .. And I don't mean to sound like a pessimist but think it will get worse before it gets better- If it ever does- It's a broken country at the moment-

Before the last US election, Andrew Neil spent some time travelling around the States talking to people from all walks of life, and wrote about it in the Mail on Sunday,

He was surprised to hear a great deal of support for Trump and he came away convinced that he would pull it off.

Even though Hilary Clinton was not widely liked, it was still thought preposterous that Donald Trump would be the choice for enough Americans to allow him to win.

I wouldn’t like to predict this time but it wouldn’t surprise me if he did it again.

silverlining48 Sat 05-Sept-20 17:40:32

Rose why would people vote against health care? I just don’t understand it. Maybe you can explain.
I just can’t understand why anyone with an iota of common sense would vote for trump who acts like a sulky bully, and is barely able to string a cohesive sentence together.
Having said that we have our cross to bear. But trump? Honestly?

Money talks in America so candidates with money get to the top. I find both Trump and Biden scary prospects maybe one more so than the other.

That's closer to the truth: Money

If Trump can make people money, they will choose him-

A choice between Trump and Biden. Are these 2 really the best a country the size of the USA has to offer?

No- Most Americans chose Biden because they were frightened by the idea of a progressive holding office-

Why?

The ones that chose Biden chose to vote against healthcare for everyone, which was the main thing the progressives were pushing-

They are no different than Republicans in that department:

Against healthcare for everyone-

The latest gem from Trump.

He described US troops who had died for their country as “losers” and “suckers”

Coming from a draft dodger that is utterly repellent.

He also requested that at a military parade he was attending for there not to be any disabled or wounded veterans ax “nobody wanted to see that”.

It just makes you want to weep.

Callistemon Sat 05-Sept-20 15:14:26

I think Trump is going to win ?????

Surely not?

God Bless America.

I also think Trump is going to win. People often tell pollsters and friends & family what is perceived to be the ‘right’ answer ... and then they go into a polling station!

It’s not an election, it’s an intelligence test. They failed the last one....

More coming out about Trump calling US war dead ‘losers and suckers’. This from the man who dodged the draft because of bone spurs.
