Under my thumb a Siamese cat of a girl
Under my thumb she's the sweetest, hmmm, pet in the world

Coercive control?

Firecracker123 Fri 14-Aug-20 12:25:53

What about Rolf Harris, Two Little Boys

Takes on a different meaning after he was convicted and sent to prison lol

I've always thought that "Watching you" one was creepy.

And I've just looked up the lyrics to
Baby it's cold outside?

MissAdventure Fri 14-Aug-20 12:18:58

Well yes.
It does sound a bit intense.

grannyrebel7 Fri 14-Aug-20 12:17:52

That made me laugh! You mean the song Claire I take it?

MissAdventure Fri 14-Aug-20 12:15:03

I'm thinking bad thoughts about poor old Gilbert o'Sullivan now.

Brown girl on the ring is a traditional Caribbean song, like Farmers in his den.

Actually that might be a bit dodgy too.

Young girl.... cant remember the next bit but you know what I mean
Then there’s the one I’ll be watching you...the stalker song.
Oh so many that we all sang and danced to without thinking too much about the words.

MissAdventure Fri 14-Aug-20 12:06:36

Watch this space, I suppose sad

lemongrove Fri 14-Aug-20 12:05:14

Brown sugar and Brown Girl In The Ring and many others are still played today, so am presuming nobody either notices them or thinks it was a different era ( which it was.)

MissAdventure Fri 14-Aug-20 12:03:10

Young Girl was mentioned quite a few times as the first single people bought.

EllanVannin Fri 14-Aug-20 12:00:11

Marshall Mathers---Eminem is the best for his lyrics. They tell a story ( in between the swearing ) Very down to earth grin
But he doesn't necessarily sing/ rap about anything except life in general.

Illte Fri 14-Aug-20 11:59:29

And I've always thought Delilah was more about a stalker than a scarlet woman.

MissAdventure Fri 14-Aug-20 11:50:52

There's that look
In your eye
I can read in your face that your feelings are driving you wild
Ah, but girl you're only a child
Well, I could dance with you honey
If you think it's funny
Does your mother know that you're out?
And I could chat with you baby
Flirt a little maybe
Does your mother know that you're out?
Take it easy (take it easy)
Better slow down girl
That's no way to go
Does your mother know
Take it easy (take it easy)
Try to cool it girl
Take it nice and slow
Does your mother know
I can see
What you want
But you seem pretty young to be searching for that kind of fun
So maybe I'm not the one...

Oopsminty Fri 14-Aug-20 11:46:56

Neil Sedaka's Sweet Sixteen is a bit dodgy.

But I thought that at the time

Oopsminty Fri 14-Aug-20 11:45:44

I think The Melting Pot is banned from most radio playlists.

Illte Fri 14-Aug-20 11:45:13

Yes but think of a lot of lyrics of that era.

Got myself a crying, talking, sleeping walking livin' doll

Gonna lock her up in a trunk

What!!!!!!!

MissAdventure Fri 14-Aug-20 11:42:17

I love 'em, but then I enjoy contentious lyrics. smile

That doesn't mean others' have to like them, though.

Firecracker123 Fri 14-Aug-20 11:39:55

The Melting Pot by Blue Minx

Firecracker123 Fri 14-Aug-20 11:35:43

Following on from the thread about the so called tobacco colour bra which caused upset among certain people what do you think of these s lyrics shock

Brown Sugar, just like a black girl should
I bet your mama was a Cajun Queen,
And all her boyfriends were sweet sixteen
I'm no school boy but I know what I like
You should have heard them just around midnight
Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good
Brown Sugar, just like a black girl should
I said, yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo
How come you, how come you dance so good
Yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo
Just like a, just like a black girl should
Yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo
