We've been asked to comment on this for the media and would love to know how you are personally affected? Do they new rules mean you will be seeing less of your family and grandchildren? Are you worried the restrictions will get tighter?
Thank you smile

Nannan2 whilst most people on here have been following the rules, some haven’t, like hugging family, particularly grandchildren and some seek still to ‘slightly bend’ them to suit their situation, like not counting small children as one of a six.
The whole situation, for nearly 6 months has been harsh for many, personally I’m pleased on the clarity of 6, pleased it’s been made law and that there will be fines. And yes we have family who we haven’t been within at least a metre of or touched since March, including grandchildren, but we love them and want us all to survive this.

It said on the gov't bbc broadcast yesterday, "children more at risk from not being in school, than of coronavirus' (i think was by education sec or some other government minister) really? Lets see, coronavirus, which could mean certain death?or lack of official teaching, which probably wont actually kill you?hmm, difficult choice that?hmmconfused

I have jury service coming up shortly. I am going to be compelled by law to spend hours every day with more than 6 other people, not from my household, for 2 weeks. I know, because I've done jury service at this court before, that there are no opening windows, so good through ventilation will be impossible. I shall not be seeing my older family members during this time and for 2 weeks afterwards because I won't risk their health when they have not been mixing outside.

Biggest worry as a non driver is the very considerable risk of catching a bus full of sniffling kids
Best avoid early morning and mid-afternoon trips then, neilspurgeon.
I'm worried about my DGC having to catch the overcrowded service bus to school with anyone and everyone as there is no school bus here.

They asked how it will affect us so they want to know, so we shouldnt feel ashamed to say how! NO ONE said they aren't going to follow the new rules, nor any of others we had to follow before- so grandad 1943 and his 'fan club' can get off their high horse and they should be ashamed of themselves, criticising folk, when we've clearly all been following the rules so all we're doing is telling how it will affect us which is what OP wanted us to do!angry

tanith Thu 10-Sept-20 11:04:22

Thanks SusieQ8 we are carrying on with our trip and will do our best to comply with the new rules and enjoy the change of scenery as we’ve all cancelled holidays, parties etc for 6 mths now and as I’m the only one who lives alone I was so looking forward to this family get together.

Neilspergeon
School children take preference here, so if the bus is full, you won't be allowed on.

Nannan2

And im NOT talking of holidays or parties- just a basic 1 hour visit to see AC & grandkids as id not seen them in months- seen them ONCE since march, and longest i saw them for was AT A FUNERAL! Yes nice 'socialising' some folk are having eh, Grandad1943& monk 08?hmm

All sounds good to me Nannan. I'm afraid that's how it is for many people. Spare a thought for those who don't even have families and really have had to go through this on their own.

I have had to abandon plans for the restarting of our local cal History Society. Fortunately my talk to the important Heritage Open Days is on Saturday, so still Legal, but I have also created a YouTube version so that the talk can be accessed by shielding people such as my wife.

Gwenisgreat1 a child counts as one of the six, two children do not equal one person, 6 is 6.

Grandad I agree wholeheartedly with your last two posts. grin

Nannan2 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:46:35

For me most of my AC live a car ride away, of an hour& a half, and it would be very mean of me to ask my son (whom i live in same house with) to drive me there just to sit&wait in car, then drive me all way home again! (So we won't be going!) And thats even by leaving youngest (17) at home as he has been staying in since march, till he had to go back to college, as he usually catches most 'bugs' going around. Now he has, he's blooming well poorly again! angry

monk08 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:45:27

Well said Grandad1943 at10:39 lives far more important than holidays and parties.

Grandad1943 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:39:28

Lizj

It’s my 70th birthday next Friday. Due to Covid all our plans for a holiday abroad were scrapped and reduced to a BBQ in the garden for my closest family - my children and their families and my sister and her children. 12 in total. Now that ruined too. I feel it’s very unfair as we’ve all stuck closely to the rules for six months and now my birthday is in ruins.

Well, six months has proved to be not long enough to bring this unprecedented worldwide pandemic under control. All you have lost is a holiday and a birthday Lizj while very many others have lost their lives.

Abide by the rules as they are rolled out however frequent that may be and perhaps we will all then get through this pandemic much quicker and with Britain in a much better position to economically recover as fast as is possible from the crisis.

Purplepixie Thu 10-Sept-20 10:35:49

2 steps forward and 10 steps back! The children have just gone back to school so what about them? We are heading into the winter and the virus is just going to multiple. Our holidays have all had to be cancelled.

SusiQ8 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:35:40

Hi Tanith, If you’re in two caravans o can’t see a problem as you’re unlikely to be more than six inside. Sitting outside the caravan you could have two groups of four (plus the baby) and as long as you’re the required two metres apart You should all be able to chat to each other and enjoy a cup of tea and a biscuit etc. You could even have two tables of four outside, socially distanced. Have a lovely trip.?

Nannapat1 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:35:35

If you go to .gov site you can see a long list of exemptions, including households or household support bubbles larger than 6. So no, personally I and DH will not be affected as our activities involve either meeting people in groups of less than 6, or come under an exemption to the rule. My adult children are not so happy though especially the 2 that have October birthdays.
Mental health will be an issue I'm sure. Although I personally won't experience any changes atm, yesterday I felt very depressed, I think because breaching the rules has now actually been made illegal. As the festive season approaches anxieties will increase, I'm sure.

Cherrytree59 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:34:17

Grandad ?
The bigger picture.

Nannan2 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:34:01

Are you a loner Grandad1943?hmm

SillyNanny321 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:32:10

This will get worse! A friend & I were saying this yesterday! Another Lockdown is imminent no matter what Government says! This will affect older people, yes I am one, more this time! It seems that we will be dead before seeing our Grandchildren again if the rules get much tougher! Why are none of the idiots out drinking every night ignoring social distancing, the idiots going to parties & raves & those refusing to wear masks not punished? Why pick on those who obey the rules? Why - because we are all an easy target! Doesnt matter though as one young man said, if the old people die it will make more room! Rant over, sorry but you did ask ?

Nannan2 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:31:01

My boys dont 'socialise', and yet, youngest,17 has had to return to college, at beginning of month, He's now been sick for 3days, and 'fluey' despite wearing his mask constantly& doing hands thoroughly as instructed by college, so he is absent again! So yes i think it IS as they're being forced to return to schools&colleges.

hicaz46 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:29:56

In general (but I accept not always) we are the generation who do stick with the rules, so we will suck it up and do as requested. There are anomalies for lots of us, I have one Son with 5 members of family, who we cannot visit and one Daughter with 4 members of family who we can see. DD lives at least an hour and a half away and DS 3 hours away so we don’t see him as I do not want to stay in a hotel yet and cannot do the round trip in one day. We all have to make sacrifices at this difficult time, but it does seem that older people are sacrificing most.

MissAdventure Thu 10-Sept-20 10:28:59

We have to put everyone's health and wellbeing first.

esgt1967 Thu 10-Sept-20 10:25:49

Discodancer1975, I think you should go and have a great time. I appreciate we "should" abide by the rules but sometimes we have to put our family's health and wellbeing first, especially in this instance where the plus one is an infant - I think it's ridiculous!
