The LibDems achieved a great deal - pupil premium is one LibDem policy which the Tories now try to claim as theirs.

Anyone who has observed the difference between the coalition years and the unmitigated disaster of Tory rule since 2015 can see how much the LibDems achieved for the good of this country.

LibDems and tuition fees ????? A pity they did the dirty on students. They will remember and will be voters for many years to come. Young Clegg, Cameron and Davey won't have to worry. The bank of Mum and Dad will sort it for them.

We won't forget their time 'in government'. They gave the tories power and achieved nothing.

The SNP in Westminster have been pushing for UBI for months and had no support from any other party...now the Lib Dems have decided to make it their Idea ...shame on them for not supporting it when there was a great need for it .Lots of folk who needed help didn't get it in the Sunak Financial package .UBI could have solved that with a bit of co operation from both Labour and Lib dems .

I have been a member of the Liberal, now Lib Dems since 1962 and I have never felt more alienated by them since I joined and I will probably not renew my membership next year. I chose not to vote in the recent leadership election because I thought both candidates were a dead loss and I couldn't think of a single person in the party who would be anything else.

Nothing to with their transgender interests, just the way they constantly put make more of this and other issues that affect small groups at the expense of solid thought through and mainstream policies like housing, education, health that affect the majority.

Do not get me wrong, I am not against any of the minority causes they support, but it seems that all other everyday issues have disappeared. What are they saying on COVID and the total chaos of the current government? No idea, What have they to say at the utter chaos in the university sector at present? No idea. What about the damage being done to the health of people, who have health problems, but not COVID, No idea.

Its not what they say at conference that matters, it is what they are doing in Parliament and the way they are totally out of touch with their grassroot members.

I have stuck to this party through thick and thin for nearly 60 years. They were the only party I could bring myself to vote for, but now even they have forgotten what the philosphy of Liberalism is. I am still a liberal, I have no idea what the Lib Dems are.

I think that there is a need for a wide ranging non party political discussion on this topic janipat. I do not accept that self identification will have a negative impact on 51% of the population, but I do think there are legitimate issues, for instance in the area of competitive sport.

You might find it interesting to listen to this being discussed on this week's "Any Questions" and "Any Answers" on Radio 4.

Where are the voices disagreeing with gender self identification? Is the vile treatment of JK Rowling and others for voicing any disquiet a factor? Non of the parties will get my vote while its implementation is their avowed intent, don't trust "quite likely". Once it's law it's very difficult to row back from.
I agree there are other important political decisions, but disregarding the negative impact on 51% of the population is pretty huge in my book. We all have to decide where our priorities lie and making previously female only spaces unavailable to women of various faiths, those who have suffered trauma etc aside from the impact on women's sports and even crime statistics as already happens is against mine. I accept for others these issues are lower down their priority list.

I see they will campaign for a Universal Basic Income. That is a very interesting idea. I hope they don't get bogged down in the gender identity issues, that would drown out everything else. I am a Labour party supporter but am considering a change, if the LibDems become more leftwing than Labour I might well consider voting for them. Where I live has swung between the Libdems and Labour in the previous few elections.

I am sure that many members of the Labour Party, the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party disagree with the policy of gender self identification and it is quite likely that the parties will revisit the subject and put forward more nuanced policies.

In the meantime there are so many other important political decisions to be made if we want to see a better society in the future.

They've had my vote in the past, but while they're determined to throw women under the bus ( along with Labour and the Greens) they can go whistle! I've never felt so homeless with my vote before , it comes to something when the Conservatives are dong more than the rest!
