Well done NS for taking a stand over Margaret Farrier MP breaking the coronavirus rules. What a pity that BJ could not have been as principled over Cummings.

biba70 Fri 02-Oct-20 20:14:35

and the relevance to this thread is ?

Alegrias Fri 02-Oct-20 20:17:48

I'd give you my view on that biba70 but it's not my thread.

Baggs Fri 02-Oct-20 20:33:05

Not sure His Krankiness is relevant either. Nor something else Nicola Sturgeon has been called: Ms McTermite. If one were to be consistent and all that.

Threads do wander, alegrias. I doubt anyone will mind if you carry on talking about Nicola Sturgeon’s political ability.

Baggs Fri 02-Oct-20 20:33:57

Several “threads” often run on the same thread.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 02-Oct-20 20:34:30

I also read today that the SNP accounts have not been passed? or released?

Chewbacca Fri 02-Oct-20 20:40:32

Biba you've been here long enough to know that all threads wander and meander; just like conversations do irl.

Now that the police have confirmed that theyre making formal enquiries regarding Margaret Ferrier's colossal "error of judgement", she surely must know that her political career is over and do the decent thing and resign. She's lost all respect and integrity.

lemongrove Fri 02-Oct-20 20:50:42

Exactly Chewbacca but she seems to be hanging on like grim death. Wonder what her constituents think!

Urmstongran Fri 02-Oct-20 20:51:59

Margaret Ferrier described her decision as a ‘mistake’.

Nicola Sturgeon more succinctly described it as an error of judgement. Well said that woman.

biba70 Fri 02-Oct-20 20:52:18

Totally agree Chewbacca.

Chewbacca Fri 02-Oct-20 20:58:37

But if you know that the decision you took was stupid, has made your colleagues in the Party look ridiculous, you've undermined all the advice that has been given out to the rest of the population and you've heavily criticised someone else for doing a similarly stupid thing and demanded his resignation; what, apart from sheer arrogance, is making her hang on?

MissAdventure Fri 02-Oct-20 21:02:52

I would want to apologise, resign, and hide myself away for a good while.

SueDonim Fri 02-Oct-20 21:45:08

I am British and Scottish and I do not want to be told that I am a foriegner in my own country.

Exactly, Varian.

I'm not sure what you mean by being told you are a foreigner in your own country, but despite what some try to pretend, Scotland will always welcome the ones who want to be Scottish.

But I have no desire to be Scottish, Alegrias. I am British first, English second. If I were to become Scottish, whatever that means, I would then be of a different nationality from one of my children and I do not desire that, either. I already have an identity, as do they, and I don’t wish to change it.

Living in a country doesn’t necessarily make you of that country. I lived in Nigeria for five years. No way would I claim to be Nigerian. As my mother says, living in a barn doesn’t mean you’re a horse.

SueDonim Fri 02-Oct-20 21:45:42

Sorry, I meant to highlight Alegrias in my post.

Alegrias Fri 02-Oct-20 21:59:42

That's ok though SueDonim, nobody's going to make you be Scottish if you don't want to be, you could stay English. Just like nobody made you be Nigerian.

What am I missing?

Alegrias Fri 02-Oct-20 22:17:22

Oh, hang on, the light's just gone on SueDonim...

Is it that if/when Scotland gets independence, you will be an English person in an independent Scotland. And Varian will be a Scottish person in England?

I can see that this would be an issue for some people, but if the majority of people in Scotland want to have an independent country, it's something we'd have to find a solution for. Dual nationality?

Witzend Fri 02-Oct-20 22:40:43

NS did get quite a bit stick for originally supporting her Chief Medical Officer, so not surprising that she’s getting tough this time.

SueDonim Fri 02-Oct-20 23:15:00

Yes, that’s the issue, Alegrias. Maybe dual nationality would suit some. It isn’t what I want for myself.

My son lives in London and he is similarly conflicted. He doesn’t want to discard his Scottish side (he was born as far north as you can be on the mainland!) but neither does he want to lose his English heritage.

He has come across a number of Scots-born people in London who feel the same way and they would all like a vote in any future referendum.

paddyanne Sat 03-Oct-20 02:23:51

You dont LOSE your heritage ...thats patently nonsense.Look at the migrants from Scotland worldwide who carry their heritage with them...and celebrate it .If you want to remain English in Scotland that surely shouldn't mean that the rest of us must be tied to England any more than America or Canada is tied to Scotland simply because some of their population was born somewhere else. That is ridiculous .
Scotland was an Independent country for centuries it should be again. We haven't done well under English rule...well if you believe GERS we haven't and poverty levels are worsening not improving under WM. Devolution gives us only control of a tiny amount of our powers. To improve OUR country we need full control .59 Scottish MP's can be outvoted by London Mp'S ...That means there is NO democracy in britain. Its English rule ..if you cant see that you need to give your head a wee wobble .59 out Of what
650? That was never democracy its dictatorship .

On the other hand IF you feel more English why not just go back home.I knowmany immigrants who call themselves new scots and their allegiance is to Scotland not WM.

Jane Godley on the Ferrier episode

Alegrias Sat 03-Oct-20 08:14:48

paddyanne although we agree on Scottish independence it's absolutely not acceptable to say IF you feel more English why not just go back home. Imagine an English person saying that to a Scot. I'd be outraged, and it works both ways.

That's not what independence is about.

The Daily Mail - "is she getting burnt as a witch? " ?

TerriBull Sat 03-Oct-20 08:31:51

"If you feel more English why not go back home" maybe that comment illustrates the difference between the Scots who simply want their independence, such as you Alegrias, which many of us in England understand, and the small minority of Scots who want their independence and have a visceral loathing of England and the English and simply can't hide that.

Oopsminty Sat 03-Oct-20 08:37:15

Jane Godley makes me adore Nicola Sturgeon

Has Nicola made any comment about these Godley clips?

Lucca Sat 03-Oct-20 08:45:33

Just watched the Godley clip. So clever. And what’s nice is that it is sympathetic to NS.

Grannynannywanny Sat 03-Oct-20 09:04:09

Oopsminty yes Nicola Sturgeon has openly admitted she is a big fan of Janey Godley’s voiceovers.
