I can’t agree Luckygirl but as you aren’t a Conservative supporter, then you may think that way.Other views are available.

The parallels are that the same people behind Johnson and the leave campaign were also behind Trumps election campaign. Bannon, Farage etc. And used the campaign to divide the country, their main tool being nationalism and xenophobia. You can be nationalistic without being racist but that didn’t suit their purpose. Those of us that marched peacefully against brexit were attacked both verbally and physically at times, something that was dismissed at the time.

Trump needs removing now.

Yes Trump has definitely lost the plot. I think the American people need to wake up

I think they’ve had 4 years of “wait and see” and look where it has got them. The desecration of their democracy.

How many times have we heard that on GN “wait and see”

It doesn’t work!

So sad that the USA has come to this

No Galaxy you simply can’t compare anything that happens in the US with the UK.
There was no evidence that the woman who was shot was holding a gun.She was breaking a window to get in.
The US is so different that parallels cannot be drawn.

I was watching CNN in the early hours and it was reported that the woman who was shot was one of the first in through the broken window and it was likely that she was shot by one of the security officers inside The Capitol whose duty it is to protect the politicians and staff in The Capitol. Of course she shouldn’t have been shot but she seems to have been one of the ring leaders.

A small voice of calm amid the chaos. Words from the heart.

Reports say that the woman who died had sprayed the police officer who shot her with mace. Many POC in America have been killed for far less or indeed nothing.

Ladyleftfieldlover Thu 07-Jan-21 09:51:30

Twitter is reporting that there is film of police removing barricades to let protesters in. I also think you will find that Priti P condemned trump by name. If trump isn’t removed pdq I will eat several hats. He and his dreadful family need to get out of the WH.

eazybee Thu 07-Jan-21 09:50:47

I would imagine that there will be footage of the shooting; every protester appeared to be holding a phone and filming the events.
Someone asked why the Capitol wasn't prepared for a confrontation with the rally; Jon Sopel, (possibly), said that the presence of the National Guard was requested, but the request was refused. By whom?
The events inside the Capitol seemed shambolic on both sides; no-one coordinating either the protesters or the defence of the building. It was very shocking, but could have been far worse with much more confrontation and bloodshed; most demonstrators milled around aimlessly then left peacefully
.
As for Trump, he seemed well-pleased with the result of his rally; I had the impression it was done to display the power he can call on from his supporters. I would imagine no action will be taken against him at present because of the volatile state of his supporters, but after the Inauguration surely he must be charged with inciting a riot, and prevented from ever holding any form of public office again.

They have recovered explosive devices, I dont think for one minute she would have had a weapon, but in that situation I am astounded that more people werent shot.

Kandinsky

I am condemning what happened - but I am also wondering what will happen as a result of this - because quite often the reaction is just as bad.

Don’t get me wrong I do not support any violent rioting and looting be it Trump fans or BLM .
I just don’t think you can compare the two incidents in any way.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 07-Jan-21 09:27:21

Interesting watching CNN at the moment with 4 presenters, one of whom supports Trump ( although lately he seems to be a bit ummm off track) but one has just mentioned that if the protesters had been black then the tear gas and guns would have come out and there wouldn’t have just been a general ‘oh go on home then’ .

Elegran Thu 07-Jan-21 09:27:14

Galaxy "Obama laughed at Trump and the EU laughed at Farage. It's very dangerous to laugh at inadequate men." and many laughed at Hitler. It is also dangerous for those who can see that they are inadequate and vicious to allow them to infiltrate positions of power where they can revenge themselves.

Galaxy Thu 07-Jan-21 09:22:15

Sorry my post was to lemongrove.

Galaxy Thu 07-Jan-21 09:21:24

What do you mean. If people attempted to storm our parliament with weapons they would be shot. I am.not defending American police tactics in general but I cant believe that the same wouldnt have happened here.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 07-Jan-21 09:20:46

She was shot after breaking a window so she could get into the Capitol building. I'm surprised more people weren't shot. Its impossible not to wonder if that's because the crowd was white.

Compare the level of policing with that of the BLM in the summer.

It is difficult not to come to the conclusion of complicity.

lemongrove Thu 07-Jan-21 09:20:36

The US police often use lethal force on citizens who fail to stop when yelled at.

Lucca the woman was shot by a policeman.

Yes I know, as I said in my post. Possibly in the chaos caused by this riot incited by Trump, not an intentional and cruel attack on a single person whatever his criminal record may have been. Why are you and Kandinsky focused on this instead of condemning the actions of the horrendous Trump incited mob ?

I have condemned the actions of the Trump incited mob, but was pointing out that the woman was shot by a policeman,
It was reported that she was breaking through a window.
If true, then it was an intentional attack by the police ( which knowing what US police are like isn’t a surprise.)
