The trip to Barnard Castle was ridiculous and it was almost insulting that he expected everyone to swallow the ‘testing my eyesight’ story.

However the trip to stay in a cottage on his parents’ farm is a different matter.

During the lockdown, under certain circumstances, childcare was exempt from the lockdown rules, but even if it hadn’t been, how could he have arranged safe childcare without breaking the rules? Nobody has answered that.

He couldn’t have had his nanny round to an infected household, neither could he have taken his child to the nanny. How then could he and his wife safely looked after their little boy whilst being ill with covid?

I have had flu just once and although I didn’t have it as badly as a lot of people I can say with absolute certainty that I would not have been fit to care for a small child.

Ok we all know that most people only have very mild symptoms with covid but they may have been severely affected.

They went in their car, they had their own cottage with his sister on hand if needed.

Under the same circumstances I suspect a lot of people would have done the same.

Don’t excuse the wretched man. His behaviour simply doesn’t bear scrutiny.

What he did was against the law. As simple as that.

He then a went in to compound his misdemeanours by arrogantly calling a press conference where he appears to have deliberately perverted the course of justice by fabricating his actions.

The child care issue may have been credible if Mrs Cummings had not written a lengthy article for a newspaper on how she coped with looking after her son while DC was bedridden. No mention of family help or of having left home. The article ended with them emerging into lockdown London. If I can find a link, I will post it.

JenniferEccles, your argument doesn't add up. If he was well enough to drive all that way, he was capable of looking after a child. Plus, they have family in London.

My daughter looked after my GS while they both had covid. It is what parents do. Her dad was poised to drive 300 miles TO HER (not the other way round) if things got too bad.

Plus, he has thousands of unpaid council tax. You have an excuse for that?

Did they not have any friends or neighbours in London who could have been on hand just like his sister, but without breaking the rules to drive all that way?

We will have to agree to differ on opinion there Jennifer. If he can take a child across the country, he could have taken it to their nanny, or she could have come and collected. And it was also mentioned, I seem to remember, they had other family living close by their London home as well. Other people managed why couldn’t they?

As vampirequeen said, he's Teflon man. But yes, keep his ill doings in the public eye.

AND he needs to pay his council tax.

Nadir Afzal will feel it more because if my memory serves me right he lost a brother who contracted Covid. He's a good barrister, albeit retired but remains to have a fight on his hands as would I if a member of my family needlessly died because of someone's rank carelessness.

He certainly led to a huge number of previous supporters being sickened by his behaviour, pathetic excuses and his remaining in employment.

We can only hope........

I'll celebrate if/when the chickens come home to roost. In the meantime I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
