It looks as if Trump will win now

Looking at the figures, it seems very likely that Trump has won a second term. How that will affect the world remains to be seen.?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 05-Nov-20 12:52:24

They seem pretty (well totally) confident in the Biden camp.

Anyone seen or heard from a Trump recently?

He seems to have disappeared. Which reminds me, how many litigation cases against him are there btw?

Tweedle24 Thu 05-Nov-20 13:08:22

I heard on the radio this morning that, up until a date in the 19th century, it was expected that the loser in the US presidential election would be made Vice President.

Can anyone imagine what that would be like these days — Trump and Hilary Clinton 2016-2020, Trump and Biden 2020-2024?

newnanny Thu 05-Nov-20 13:18:28

I think Biden will win, but will be a lame duck president as republicans control the senate. Trump got over 3 million more votes than 4 years ago.

Although I think Trump is an unpleasant character I think he was a good president for USA. He is the first US president who did not get US involved in conflict in recent times. He has helped peace talks in middle East and even tried with Kim Jong Un. Before Covid the US was in good shape economically. Unemployment was low and wages had risen. He also does not let EU push US about.

I don't think he was a bad president. The ones that start start wars were far worse.

I think Biden is a liabilaty. He appears to be going senile calling Trump George and his own granddaughter his dead sons name. His wife keeps elbowing him when he makes mistakes. Not sure he is safe in charge of red button.

Compare a tired old man after a gruelling campaign with a slip of the tongue and an elderly bombastic egotist proven to have lied 20,000 times? Which is best?
Give me the tired old man with the excellent deputy every time.

Lucca Thu 05-Nov-20 13:23:27

I am pretty sure the president cannot have sole charge of the red button!! Nd trump would be just as much of a liability.

B9exchange Thu 05-Nov-20 13:24:46

I find it terrifying that the Trump supporters are now out with their hand guns and assault rifles threatening to stop the counts in some areas.

Hithere Thu 05-Nov-20 13:26:50

Even if Biden gets the numbers (dont want to jinx it), the carrot will steal it.

How much trust is there in the vote counting?
I dont trust trumpers counting votes now are playing by the rules.

It is like the cheater accusing the spouse of cheating

Hithere Thu 05-Nov-20 13:29:56

Somebody in the government has to say stop to the bullying and intimidation tactics.
He and his supporters are already winning by being allowed to behave like this without consequences.

Democracy is dead

JenniferEccles Thu 05-Nov-20 14:01:23

I agree with newnanny
Although there is much to dislike about Donald Trump as a person, his achievements as US President should be acknowledged.

Despite exchanging insults with Kim Jon Un Trump received an invitation to visit the leader, something no other President had achieved.

The US economy improved under his leadership.

I also think the doddery Biden would be a disaster, but it’s been said that his Vice President would be likely to take over should he win.

Alishka Thu 05-Nov-20 15:00:03

I've been watching CNN live - can't get a fag paper between them.
Worrying times.

Curlywhirly Thu 05-Nov-20 15:15:42

Oh no Alishka I couldn't bear it if Trump wins; fingers and toes crossed that it doesn't happen. He has sunk to an even lower low, his behaviour since voting finished is disgusting. I wonder, if he won Pennsylvania, would he still say the counting of votes was fraudulent? The man is a complete embarassment; he has absolutely no morals.

Blinko Thu 05-Nov-20 15:23:30

As Trump seems to be getting ready to involve the courts, I guess he thinks he's on a losing wicket.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 05-Nov-20 15:28:08

I’ve decided to come out and say a Biden win!???.

I reckon he’s going to get Pennsylvania.

Job done!

Fuchsiarose Thu 05-Nov-20 15:28:50

Courts..... nothing worse than a sore prospective loser....

I find the anti Trump brigade rather terrifying as well

Just what is going on in NY?

If the results are close Trump will demand recounts so this could go on for a while before we find out who the new president is.

Yes, Donald is certainly gracious in possible defeat!

I always thought that the President did have total control of
‘The red button’ although any President would surely only go down that route as a reactive decision.

lemongrove Thu 05-Nov-20 17:06:31

Still very close and some votes can’t continue to be counted until tomorrow?

PollyDolly Thu 05-Nov-20 17:09:17

Oh, I hope Donald Trump doesn't get in for a second term! Not only is he a very dangerous man but he thinks he can change the rules to suit himself! Just looking at him gives me the creeps too, whatever did Melania see in him? ?

lemongrove Thu 05-Nov-20 17:15:51

Millions of dollars?

phoenix Thu 05-Nov-20 17:16:30

Trump took the USA out of the Paris Climate Change agreement, because he doesn't believe in climate change.

He also previously said "without the ballot, everything would be fine"

Erm, sorry Donald, it's not like the monarchy in that you stay in charge until you die, then your eldest child takes over.

I actually don’t know Lemongrove but I’m assuming that there are many hoops to jump through so hopefully it’s not just by POTUS bedside for him to press if someone doesn’t like his tweets.

JenniferEccles Thu 05-Nov-20 17:21:12

Maybe he believes in climate change but not man-made climate change.

Maybe he has read that world temperatures have increased and decreased over many centuries, long before human intervention could be blamed.

sodapop Thu 05-Nov-20 17:24:35

I think we could be waiting quite some time for the official announcement as the court cases have to be resolved. Someone said USA could end up with two men on the Capitol steps both saying they had won.

I agree newnanny things are not going to change much while the Republicans control the Senate.
