Looking at the figures, it seems very likely that Trump has won a second term. How that will affect the world remains to be seen.?

There is no such thing as the Red Button. What there is, is what's called the 45 pound suitcase known as 'The Football'
I do know something about the Red Button as one of my friends is a retired nuclear sub mariner.
There were quite a few scares in the 80s which most of the world was totally unaware of.

Whitewave Is that really the final call or an estimation from the only possible result from the votes that are still to be counted? Where did you get the info from, I can only find lower figures than that?

Elegran Thu 05-Nov-20 20:30:26

The only place I have found your figures is at capx.co/the-democrats-have-won-this-battle-but-biden-will-be-a-lame-duck-from-day/ , where CAPX say " His electoral college win may end up looking pretty respectable: perhaps as much as 306 to 232, exactly President Trump’s margin in 2016, and larger than George W Bush’s victories in 2000 and 2004." That is just an estimate.

A little light relief for now

I'm watching CNN - Trump was just referred to as sounding unhinged. It would be funny if it wasn't terrifying.

lemongrove Thu 05-Nov-20 21:11:13

He has been sounding unhinged for quite a while now.

Grannynannywanny Thu 05-Nov-20 21:21:29

Even if Biden wins Trump will still be President till January. I fear he’ll take unhinged to a whole new level during that time.

Iam64 Thu 05-Nov-20 21:24:53

He has indeed lemon but it still felt odd to have him so described by a serious journalist. I realise CNN is the democrat leaning channel but even so.
Yes Grannynanywanny - even more unhinged.

SueDonim Thu 05-Nov-20 21:25:23

A friend wrote this about Trump. It would explain why people still vote for him.

I can't help feeling that the US is like an abused partner of Trump. He has gaslighted them to extreme degrees, tells them he has their best interests at heart, nobody loves them more than he does, only he cares about them, nobody else loves them, and no-one loves them like he does. All the while, punching them where the bruises don't show.

It will be two months of having to appear in public but be totally humiliated, especially after his behaviour of the past few days (and the days to come).

NotTooOld Thu 05-Nov-20 21:36:34

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but I'm quite impressed with Biden's deputy. She could easily end up as president, too.

Someone upthread mentioned loving Obama. I'm in love with him, too. I've even read his books - a bit hard going but the wisdom of the man shines through. Pity the orange one hasn't also read them.

maddyone Thu 05-Nov-20 22:49:06

Grannynannywanny thanks for the laugh, especially the first one. Iam I think lemon’s right, I’m not sure he’s ever been unhinged.
The next few months will be difficult enough with the lockdown without having to watch Trump ranting on television every time we put the news on. It doesn’t look as though he’ll go with dignity does it?

Grannynannywanny Thu 05-Nov-20 23:12:42

My son sent this earlier. I hope it plays. It’s very funny.

If Biden becomes President, despite a Republican Senate I think there is scope for optimism. It’s perfectly possible for progress to be made with the President in the best interests of the American people. There could well be huge sighs of relief amongst senior Republicans at having grown ups to deal with instead of the ever changing cast of Trump appointees in the WH and his poisonous venal family. Have you noticed the deafening silence from leading Republicans these last couple of days ( apart from the ‘I was just tucking my shirt in’ RG)?

Callistemon Thu 05-Nov-20 23:33:29

I don't understand why anyone is still shouting after polling finishes.
It's as if they haven't stopped campaigning.
Surely a period of calm before the result is announced might be a good idea. Trump and his team in particular are such a rabble.

Grannynannywanny Thu 05-Nov-20 23:36:17

Trump is about to speak any minute now from the Whitehouse.

suziewoozie Thu 05-Nov-20 23:58:12

Oh dear

suziewoozie Fri 06-Nov-20 00:00:48

Is anybody else listening?

B9exchange Fri 06-Nov-20 00:02:43

Not sure I can carry on watching it, he has been ranting for 15 minutes about corrupt voting practices and late votes. It is still so close. Biden needs two more states or Pennsylvania to win, he is only leading on two smaller states. If he wins these, Georgia and Nevada, he will get get his 270 seats, but that is the barest minimum to get him the presidency and Trumps legal appeals will drag it on for days or months.
