Looking at the figures, it seems very likely that Trump has won a second term. How that will affect the world remains to be seen.?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 04-Nov-20 15:36:36

So at the moment it looks as if Biden in pulling ahead in at least a couple of the rust belt states. Wisconsin and Minnesota. That would give him 10. + 16 +238= 264.
Nevada looks as though it is going for Biden that’s another 6

Total 270!! Bingo!!

Trump has assaulted multiple women over decades

How unpalatable does it make him?

Tweedle24 Wed 04-Nov-20 15:29:05

Sparklingsilver28 Of course we are ‘obsessed’ with the USA’s election. As we keep being reminded, The US is the most powerful of the Western countries. What happens there affects all of us.

im amazed anyone would vote for Biden - he's senile for a start and all that sniffing women and young girls hair - there's something really unpalatable about him

I worry that if Trump is elected Boris Johnson will opt for a no-deal Brexit and try to negotiate trade deals instead with the USA.
Remember Trump saying that 'nothing is off the table' in trade negotiations, including the NHS.

Trump can't 'win'. He can only seize victory thus making America no better than a banana republic.

I think Biden will win.

However there will be trouble ahead

Recounts and legal shenanigans

I also fail to understand how USA seem to be unable to count their votes in a timely fashion

The UK seem to be in a race to see who can declare first

Yes, USA is massive. But it has a massive population. I heard one state had sent its counters home for the evening! Another state has said they won't start to count until tomorrow, 5pm GMT. Why?

Why not have them working on a shift to enable constant counting?

This attitude leaves themselves open to calls of fraud and such like.

Baffling.

Oldbat1 Wed 04-Nov-20 15:04:51

Please please don’t let Trump win! What a disgraceful man. Johnson and him make just the most awful awful pairing. Can’t understand how he has survived without someone or something drastic happening to him. I want to hide behind the sofa as it is so frightening.

We were on cruise a few years ago and had some lovely Americans on our table. Then we found out they absolutely worshipped Trump! We didn't know what to say to them. Being lefties it was unbelievable to us that they could think so much of this man! Don't like to say it but I think he will win.

Gwyneth Wed 04-Nov-20 14:47:07

I don’t think Trump can win looking at the latest figures.
Trump 213 and Biden 224.

Garage indeed. Mostly full of junk.

Debs551964 Wed 04-Nov-20 14:36:26

Kandinsky I totally agree with your comment. I like trump and garage...... Two politicians who speak their mind and I hope Trump wins. The younger of the two.... The other looks like he's almost at his death bed!! He makes me laugh.... Face full of botox I can only just about read his facial expressions ????

suelld Wed 04-Nov-20 14:30:12

I just don't understand how anyone can think the orange misogynistic, racist, white supremacist, woman abusing LIAR is a fit President for anyone - let alone President of the United States. I am gutted if he wins again as it looks likely.

It might be the home of the tech giants but their average internet speed is slow. They rank 11th out of the top 25 countries. 35-36 Mbps. Not good. As Donald would say ?

Whitewavemark2 Join the club - I have been an alien in my country for the last 30 years.

It never ceases to puzzle me this obsession with the USA.

B9exchange Wed 04-Nov-20 14:12:19

I find it incredible that a country as technologically advanced as the USA is unable to count all its votes and declare a result within a few hours of the close of the election. This hanging on for days, with both sides claiming victory just fans the flames of uncertainty and builds resentment.

Galaxy Wed 04-Nov-20 13:53:08

Biden has received more of the popular vote than Obama- is this right?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 04-Nov-20 13:46:51

It ain't over till it's over ?

How’s it looking where you are?

pollyperkins Wed 04-Nov-20 13:43:50

Those big trump tallies with thousands yelling & cheering remind me a lot of Hitlers rallies

I echo what Hithere says. My son lives in the US with his family so it does affect us more directly. Are we witnessing the end of democracy? sad

One thing I am clinging to, if Trump gets back in, is something Andrew Neil said last night - that five million of the ‘old guard’ have died since the 2016 election, so presumably by the next election, another five million will have passed on and the next generation of more diverse, better educated Americans will be taking their place.

Will that matter as the damage will already have been done? Trump will have had four years to do as he wants with no election for him at the end of his two terms to worry about.

Kartush Wed 04-Nov-20 13:42:08

Wont matter, I have a feeling he is not going to go quietly if he looses, he has all but said that he will not accept the result if it is not in his favour and will challenge any decision to remove him. He even said that he was of the opinion that he had the right to be president for more than the normal two terms.

Tweedle24 Wed 04-Nov-20 13:40:48

jenwren At the risk of being ticked off for bringing in the Nazis, I could never get my head around the Nazis political success in Germany.. I am currently reading ‘The Himmler Brothers’ written by Ernst Himmler’s granddaughter. I have also watched two of the ‘Rise of the Nazis’ series on Catch-up. Well worth a read and a watch if you are interested.
