I live in the U.S. and am vehemently opposed to Trump. I am so disappointed in my country. I appreciate your comments from the U.K. since it gives me a sense of how we are viewed outside of our domain. I think that something a friend of mine (an avid Republican and Trump supporter) said in 2016 resonates with me now. She said it didn’t matter that he won because our lives wouldn’t change. And to some extent she’s correct. My DH and I still have our home, our pensions, our health insurance, etc. Due to his health problems, we vigilantly adhere to precautions. Her life didn’t change either. But here’s the difference - Trump’s presidency has radically changed the lives of others and his victory now will continue to do so. She doesn’t care - I do. Please pray for the U.S.

It isn’t just how Trump affects individuals, but it is the divisions he has caused between all sorts of groups, the violence that has occurred, the withdrawal from the climate change agreement, WHO, the luke warm support of NATO, the threat to democracy, the trashing of the institutions in the US.

I echo what Hithere says. My son lives in the US with his family so it does affect us more directly. Are we witnessing the end of democracy?

One thing I am clinging to, if Trump gets back in, is something Andrew Neil said last night - that five million of the ‘old guard’ have died since the 2016 election, so presumably by the next election, another five million will have passed on and the next generation of more diverse, better educated Americans will be taking their place.

It's just the sort of thing a deluded ego maniac like Trump would do.

I can say I feel sick thinking half of the people in this country think a racist, misogynist, total lack of empathy, gaslighter, sex offender, responsible for genocide, mentally unstable, throws tantrums like a toddler daily, etc is a good candidate for a second term.

The ones who voted for him mirrow his values - that is what worries me.

Next, he will amend the constitution to re mlm over terms and he can pick his successor

That is concerning, of course- But important to understand that there are more racists than "imagined"-

I live in the states. Trump said at 2:30 this morning to stop the voting as he won. Well he can’t do that and there are millions of uncounted votes that have yet to be counted . They may not all be counted until Friday.
He HAS not done what he promised. His said the virus would be gone and we would have a vaccine by Election Day. That’s only one of his lies. I’m embarrassed for those who STILL voted for him.

Trump alleging fraud and wanting counting stopped, he can smell defeat, so there is going a big argument especially if it a narrow victory. Biden leading but only by a few % points.

No, Bernie Sanders would never have been chosen as the Presidential Candidate, too Socialist.

Trump has not won this election until all the votes are counted. He's not even winning now, before the postal votes are all in. How can anyone be fooled by his display of brass neck?

It’s how the figures looked to me at 8a.m mousemac due to the States that could be reasonably expected to vote for Trump ( Republicans don’t all like Trump, but they wouldn't vote in any numbers for a Democrat, particularly such a poor offering as Joe Biden.) Of course it’s not over yet, but it’s looking as if Trump is doing very well.

I feel sick at the thought of Trump winning. He disgusts me and frightens me in equal measure. I then wonder why I should care. It’s not my country. They’ve done it to themselves but I pity them in a way. It’s like watching truculent child making bad choices and not being able to do anything .

Actually Trump has done very good things. He has kept his election promises. Avoided wars. Built up the US economy.
Made peace overtures to North Korea and insisted that European countries finally honour their commitments to NATO defence. He's also been a good friend to our country by supporting our Brexit decision and suggesting a trading deal.

I think as Trump has Florida and Wisconsin due to the way their voting system works he will win again.

DH said to me 4 years ago that Trump is setting up a dynasty.

They still have to count mail in ballots and those are leaning towards Biden. That’s why Trump wants to stop the counting.

Last time around Trump lost the majority vote in the US but he won the electoral college. It’s a backwards system.

People love Trump because he’s tapped into the religious community. They don’t like the way the world is changing and want to holdfast to old beliefs. But that includes biased bigoted ideas. He’s extremely manipulative and people believe his BS. Confirmation bias kicks in and people won’t accept the truth about who Trump is. Unfortunately people in the US are gullible.

I hold out hope for the mail in ballots to win this election for Biden.

I have a very good American friend who I thought was super intelligent, but she thinks Trump is wonderful.

I think if Trump loses he will barricade himself in the White House and refuse to leave!
