Having looked at the voting it’s really neck and neck at the moment.

I don't think Corbyn would have been a populist. That was one of his and his supporters' main problems. He's an ideologue and won't compromise his pure socialist principles. A populist tells the electorate what it wants to hear, even if it's not in the interest of the country as a whole and the future.

Oh dear! Apparently Wisconsin is on its thirteenth recount and there's a different winner each time. Biden's lead in Arizona is narrowing.

The Guardian has assumed that Biden had won both and they're included in its figure of 264.

The intimidation by Trump supporters at polling stations is horrifying in a country that is supposed to be a democracy.

The only difference imo Jane10 is that Biden would want to try and heal the divisions if he won but Trump would want to continue them and make them even deeper. He’s got to start preparing the nation for the next Trump presidency.

Whoever wins will face a desperately divided and unhappy nation.

I do soooooo hope that if Biden wins the divisions created by the populists lead by Trump doesn’t erupt into violence.

Our countries need to heal. Once we have got rid of our populist government we can follow America and begin the process of healing.

The Guardian is already claiming that Biden has won Arizona and Wisconsin, but counting is continuing. Biden is also leading (just) in Nevada. That would give him 270 electoral college votes.

Biden doesn't necessarily need to win Pennsylvania.

DH told me he’d heard on the news that the person running the count at Pennsylvania is a republican. But they’re still saying the count is corrupt. You couldn’t make it up. Hasn’t Guilliani (sp) fallen foul of the law recently as well.

Eric Trump was on tv last night making all sorts of ridiculous claims, saying Pennsylvania is the Democrats’ only pathway to victory which is nonsense. The BBC did all the possibilities and there was more than one way for Biden to get to 270, one possibility gave Trump and Biden 269, what a nightmare.

Team Trump also accusing some officials of corruption and fraud, people who have been doing the job with integrity for many years insulted just as he insulted medical staff at the beginning of the pandemic suggesting PPI was going out the back door. What a charmer!

Yes Franbern I completely understand your thoughts on the future lives of our grandchildren. I’m frequently reduced to tears recently when I wonder what the future holds for them. Their education has been severely disrupted since March and that’s set to continue. The economy is rapidly going up the proverbial s* creek without a paddle and the threat of coronavirus shows no sign of abating. Let’s hope for better days ahead for everyone.

I was afraid to look at my phone for news when I woke earlier. Last time I went to bed thinking Hilary Clinton was on the cusp of securing all she needed. Then woke the next morning to find Trump had won. I still remember that sinking feeling and utter disbelief.

I’m not feeling 100% confident it’s not going to happen again somehow. I sincerely hope I’m wrong.

I am actually to scared to believe that it won't happen again. Just so dismayed at nearly half of USof A actually voted for this totally dangerous, lying idiot even after four years of suffering him.

He’s been planning this for ages: drip dripping the possibility of fraudulent postal voting (during a pandemic when people need to vote that way). First he wants counting to stop. Then he wants recounts. Then he wants it to stop again. Then there was the intimidation of people at polling stations. This is both embarrassing and terrifying.

I have seen toddlers in a dispute over a toy give way with more grace and dignity than Trump. He's reducing the dignity of the Presidency. Who could possibly respect America and American voters if he does manage to sue his way to the job?

I'm also uncertain and a bit anxious about the outcome. Particularly as Trump is already calling in the lawyers to challenge what he calls "fraud".
He's an odious individual. He promised to act as Potus as he has in his business career. He's stood by that promise, bullying, shouting, using dismissive offensive language, sacking anyone who opposes him, oh yes and lying. I do worry he'll insight his supporters to civil war type behaviour

Even Democrat policies are to the right of UK politics, they can’t be called even socialist let alone communist. Capitalism is alive and well with the Democrats but they want a fairer distribution of wealth. That will come in the shape of higher taxes that’s what Republicans really hate.

I wouldn't call the Democrats socialists, by a very long stretch of the imagination. In fact, I would say that they would be considered as conservatives in most countries.

I think the fear of Communism is so high in America that real Socialism is looked on with great suspicion.

growstuff, it isn't just the electoral system. There are loads of things that they seem quite behind with. Our banking system even back in the pre-digital days seemed streets ahead of the American system. There are lots of great things about the USA but most people I know who have lived and worked out there have been horrified at attitudes in the work place and the racism.

Biden the worst leader in the western world? Not with Boris in charge, surely?
