There are rumours that the U.K. in wavering in its negotiations.

At long last reality is setting in.

A couple of reasons.

It is likely that Trump, who has supported Brexit and promised a “great deal” ?has been defeated. Johnson has lost his only foreign supporter.

Looking at the economic forecast it is grim. Our figures are the worst in the western world at the moment and will take another huge hit if Johnson commits hari kari and goes for No deal.

Local authorities stopped it 3 yrs? ago the cost of policing protesters was massive. Sometimes activists do get changes.

Urmstongran Thu 03-Dec-20 19:24:47

Perhaps the RSPCA is being silly then.

More GOOD NEWS regarding Brexit:

The Government plans to ban the export of live animals for slaughter and fattening, as it said leaving the EU allows the UK to enact rules to prevent unnecessary suffering of animals during excessively long journeys.

The RSPCA said it “would be a landmark achievement for animal welfare”, while Compassion in World Farming said the “unambiguous proposal” was very welcome.

?

LOL

There has been no live export from the UK for some years, but there has been a good trade in live export from Ireland, so to have any effect there will have to be a ban on export to NI as well.
I’ve never understood the live export, it’s far cheaper it export meat

varian

I really hope that your faith in Frost is vindicated Ug

But I do wonder what you will say if we end up with no-deal.

The same as ug said when Trump lost.

Nothing?

MaizieD Thu 03-Dec-20 18:28:05

And now Gavin Williamson boasts that at last WW2 will be allowed to be studied in UK schools, now the EU can't forbid it.

Blimey! Late to this one. Did he really say that biba? Have you a link?

If he did it's completely untrue...shock

Both sides playing the end game now.
Won’t be long.
I’m so glad we have the amazing David Frost as our chief negotiator - the details man the details men go to apparently.

And to think Williamson is the Education Minister????.

My grandsons interviewed their great grandmother for their WW11 project.

Some of them Varian, have just come back after spending a lot more in the EU ;)

And now Gavin Williamson boasts that at last WW2 will be allowed to be studied in UK schools, now the EU can't forbid it. My kids certainly did study WW2, so did all the kids in all the schools I taught. And my grandchildren recently too- big project last year on WW2 by grandson. I am sure even he did ... not that long ago sad

Crikey: didn’t realise that DD has been teaching it illegally for the past 15 years....I’d better tell her....

biba70 Thu 03-Dec-20 15:57:41

Which facts stated above in this thread are, in your opinion- not facts? Please.

Urmstongran Thu 03-Dec-20 15:55:47

Funny how those who extol the virtues of the EU are just presenting the facts but when other challenge the EU on here we are accused of ‘point scoring’‼️

Only the dopey ones Varian! Most expats I know were aware that the rules already state that its 90 days in 183 - nothing new here!

I think our sovereign nation will prove that small can be nimble. Decisions don’t have to be ratified 27 times and translated into umpteen languages first.

As Professor Van Tam said this morning he’s very proud of the way we can do things in the UK.
❤️

The UK is still under the remit of the European Medicines Agency until the end of transition. The EMA rules allow all member states to ratify on their own in emergencies such as this; there's no issue of 27 ratifications.

The fact that other nations have chosen not do it is simply their decision and nothing to do with the EU and the EMA.

I for one am proud that we didn't decide to block this vaccine because it was developed by Turkish immigrants in German company and produced in Belgium.

Let's hope it doesn't overheat in the Channel Tunnel queues in January.

Furious British expats blast EU's new post-Brexit travel rules which will ban them from spending more than three months at a time at their holiday home from January

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9000815/Furious-British-expats-blast-EUs-new-post-Brexit-travel-rules.html

I wonder just how many of these "furious British expats" were persuaded to vote Leave by the Mailonline?

Revealing MaizieD how you commented upon my C&P skills ... but not the revelations within the article itself about splits & reasons for delays within the EU.

And why should I have anything to say about something you have posted on a point scoring mission?

I'm not the one who thinks that the EU is an evil monstrosity which blights the lives of all who come into contact with it. As there are 27 countries, all sovereign and all with their own interests to consider it is not at all surprising that somethings may be subject to delay before a consensus is reached.

JE. We absolutely do rejoice in the news!
Just don’t believe it’s anything to do with Brexit or Boris that’s all.

JenniferEccles Thu 03-Dec-20 12:16:17

Ok I give up.
Some of you are determined to see the negative side of everything.

Meanwhile I am sure there are many many others of us who are rejoicing in the news of the last couple of days.

I wonder if we will have news of the Oxford vaccine next week?
There is talk about that also being available before Christmas. I suspect that’s the one the majority of us will have.

MaizieD Thu 03-Dec-20 12:06:57

Its about time now without the shackles of the EU we can blow our own trumpet

And what trumpet might that be, firecracker? That we hopped in and bought up a few thousand doses of vaccine that's being produced in the EU? What's so praiseworthy about that?

Any guff about being able to approve it so fast because of Brexit is actually LIES, so no cause for jingoism there...

I note that the vaccine being developed in the UK isn't ready yet...
