Mitt Romney, who was the Republican candidate who stood against Barack Obama, has also congratulated President Elect Joe Biden.

Oh no - goodness, it just seems a tiny bit like maybe not all 70 m think the results are fraudulent. Really!

suziewoozie Sun 08-Nov-20 17:36:55

Well George Bush has called Biden /Harris to congratulate them so there seems to be some fake news on this thread about all Republicans thinking the election is a fraud. Naughty, naughty.

suziewoozie Sun 08-Nov-20 17:25:31

Every single Republican voter believes the result is fraudulent? Wow / including all the red states I assume and how come Democrats haven’t done so well in Senate and House seats? Hummmm

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Nov-20 17:23:42

I would be much more amenable to the suggestion of fraud if I saw even one piece of information to suggest fraud on a scale that tips the election in Bidens favour.

There isn’t any.

Whose' evidence' are you likely to believe suziewoozie?
Patience is a virtue is all I will say.

Why not try me with some evidence ? I take it you know what evidence is?

Caligrandma Sun 08-Nov-20 17:21:15

Actually, you are receiving massive mis information. The election has not been legally called. Newspapers don't call elections, candidates don't call elections. Voter fraud is being addressed because 70 million Americans don't trust the results. So, no, Americans are not relieved. Trump has done incredible turn around on our country. He has been relentlessly attacked for winning a fair election and the legal votes need to be counted. If it was fair he will cecede. If its fraudulent, ALL Americans benefit from discovering that its fraudulent.

Crueser48 is right - rigged votes!
Not over yet - have you not heard about the 'encrypted watermarks' on genuine voting papers?

Could we have a link to the evidence please? TIA ever so much pretty please.

Murdoch is enabling and encouraging Trumps worse excesses by denying the election via Fox.

There are suggestions that Trump plans to do a deal to get him out.

Just go in and escort the man out - bodily if necessary!!

Yes indeed, it is all about ‘the deal’ with Trump, it is claimed that he even wanted to be sworn in using his book ‘The Art Of TheDeal’ instead of the Bible. I just hope they don’t pander to him, it’s about time he was made accountable for his wrong doings. Biden is doing the right thing by largely ignoring him and getting on with preparations for the huge tasks he has to undertake.

He will step down and past the presidency to his Vic-President Pence, who will give him a pardon. Nixon was pardon by Ford, his Vice President.

varian Sun 08-Nov-20 16:14:36

Not only does Trump never apologise for any of the awful things he's done, he also habitually claims credit for things he hasn't done - like the way he boasts about his great book -"The Art of the Deal"

Trump, facing a crowd that had gathered in the lobby of Trump Tower, on Fifth Avenue, laid out his qualifications, saying, “We need a leader that wrote ‘The Art of the Deal.’ ” If that was so, Schwartz thought, then he, not Trump, should be running. Schwartz dashed off a tweet: “Many thanks Donald Trump for suggesting I run for President, based on the fact that I wrote ‘The Art of the Deal.’ ”

My DD in Wisconsin cried and opened a bottle of champagne when she heard the news. (It was her DH's birthday, so they had a double reason to celebrate.) She's hoping that the country, so torn now by fear and anger, will begin to rebuild itself. It won't be easy, as the divisions go so deep. The fact that the election was neck and neck, right up to the finish line, shows how the country is split in two. A bit like the UK over Brexit, in fact, but we are less likely to express our polarised views with assault rifles on the streets.

Biden and Harris are very conservative in their views, so I don't expect to see sweeping changes. (I am very amused by the allegations that they are radical leftists and the Democrats are secretly trying to introduce communism! If they were here, they would be moderate Tories.) However, they are a return to reason and sanity. Biden isn't going to call the neo-Nazis "good people" and "patriots" or tell the Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by." He isn't going to have protesters tear gassed so he can be photographed at a church, holding a bible. He won't shirk his leadership role by blaming everything on China and sacking everyone who disagrees with him. He isn't a climate change denier.

He is going to have his work cut out, though, with a divided nation and a strong Republican presence in the Senate and the House of Representatives. I hope he brings in measures to start getting the virus under control. Where my DD lives, the infection rate is soaring and shows no sign of slowing down.

The time between now and Biden's inauguration in January is going to be tense. I hope it remains peaceful.

Keep telling yourself that.

Trump's mind will now be on his own survival. He owes a great deal of money to some very bad people and he is now no longer of use to them. He will be facing numerous legal challenges without the money to pay for lawyers - not the least of which will be the divorce settlement with Melania. Many, many chickens are now coming home to roost.

rose poverty is a real and growing issue. Housing is a massive problem. We do have a health service at the moment that is universal, but it is undoubtedly under threat and apart from the fact that up until recently no politician would dare to touch it, the Tories starved it of funding and continue to Contract out services to the tune of billions of £s.

We have an Illiberal government that undermines the rule of law, and the institutions our democracy relies upon. It is a clone of the Trump government.

I forgot to mention internet and cell service- Most of the U.S. doesn't have it! Trump promised it but didn't deliver-

I think it is exactly the same issue in the U.K.

The vote is largely one of frustration and hope that the voter’s will be noticed by the politicians.

So Obama brought disappointment. The result was Trump.

We had years of austerity and the result was brexit and Johnson.

The argument now taking place in the USA now between the progressive left and the centralists is just the same as that taking place in the U.K.

Yes, that's the impression I get- Without living there myself, I can only rely on descriptions of what daily life in the UK is like- It sounds absolutely beautiful geographically but a struggle otherwise -- just like here-
