and the world breathes a massive sigh of relief - wow <3

Pammie1 Sun 08-Nov-20 13:39:21

I too breathed a sigh of relief. Let’s hope Biden brings some unity instead of the divisive tactics used by Trump. I hope and pray that there will be no violent rampages from Trump supporters.

I'm so pleased also that Trump has gone. The man has very nearly driven me to drink lol. Facebook is now full of people calling Biden a pedophile, which is hell of an accusation!

Ramblingrose22 Sun 08-Nov-20 13:34:36

Just because Joe Biden is in his late 70's doesn't mean he will soon get dementia.
My MIL is 99 and has all her marbles. Others of a similar age do too.
I am delighted that Joe Biden has won and wish him well.

hooray,a good thing for the world, but malignant narcissists,ie trump don't take defeat at all, the monster will do anything to save his face, he won't leave quietly, nothing would surprise me as to what he will get up to.I hope he disappears never to be heard of again, but i doubt it.

Free Melania!

Parsley3 Sun 08-Nov-20 13:27:42

Indeed we are suzie we have the example of the Royals who are still doing a wonderful job well into old age.

suziewoozie Sun 08-Nov-20 13:11:48

Churchill was 77 when he became PM in 1951 but he was British and as we know we are always the exception.

Nicegranny Sun 08-Nov-20 13:09:12

Riverwalk l completely agree with you. The presidency was wasted by Trump and he could have done so much for the US and the whole world. He is ignorant. Biden may not be everyone’s choice but at least it’s broken the Trump reign.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Nov-20 13:07:28

How old

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Nov-20 13:07:07

For those who are concerned about his age. Ask yourself how was Churchill and Gladstone when they took office.

Coco51 Sun 08-Nov-20 13:06:13

Loved the guy who said Trump should put on his ’big boy pants’ and go with dignity!

Newatthis Sun 08-Nov-20 13:05:24

My daughter and her husband and our Gc live in the USA so I’m praying for a peaceful transition. Thrilled by the news.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Nov-20 12:39:20

lemon your support of the Tories has been vociferous ever since you have been posting on GN. So your suggestion that you are not a supporter is disingenuous to say the least.

grandtanteJE65 Sun 08-Nov-20 12:39:17

Some years ago now, the conclave of cardinals debarred members who are over seventy from being suggested as papal candidates.

Perhaps we all should do the same with politicians?

Or shall we except that we all live longer and that seeing signs of incipient dementia in others is perhaps a reflection of our own fears rather than an opinion based upon facts.

Why not leave Melania Trump alone? She had her reasons for marrying the man, what they are is her concern, not ours, and at least she has had the decency to stick by him publicly.

luluaugust Sun 08-Nov-20 12:34:19

I hope it goes well now but Biden doesn't like us, what difference that will make not sure. Having watched some of the coverage I do wonder what the Trump supporters will do now after all they are all armed apparently.

Pippa22 Sun 08-Nov-20 12:28:07

I trust America will have its first female mixed race president before too long. I really cannot understand why a man of 78 would want that job but well done to him for getting it.

Trump could do a lot of damage to the world in the next few weeks. He was a loose cannon whilst president, now he is hurt and angry goodness knows what he might do. His followers are a weird bunch too, lots with guns accessible. We can only hope that nothing dreadful happens.

Lollypolly Sun 08-Nov-20 12:23:42

Listened to one of Trump's ex aides this morning, (the female he hired from the apprentice) she said that Trump has a lot of health issues that have been hidden but may come out now.

I am delighted that Biden won as this will hopefully curtail Johnson from a no deal Brexit and who knows with a bit of luck his own MP's will call for a vote of confidence and eventually removal of him. The people of Northern Ireland deserve better. Then maybe Scotland can decide it's own future and be a part of the EU again. I enjoyed visiting my grandson without having had to apply for a visa. Life was so simple before Brexit.

spabbygirl Sun 08-Nov-20 12:15:46

thank goodness!!!! I don't want to think of anyone suffering the way trump made them.

humptydumpty Sun 08-Nov-20 12:12:46

Personally I've been struck over the last few days by how much fitter Joe Biden looks than Trump, irrespective of his age; I'd back him to still be well and truly alive and kicking for a lot longer than Trump.

icanhandthemback Sun 08-Nov-20 12:06:11

What a difficult decision decent voters must have had making their choice. A narcissistic megalomaniac v a doddering but likeable old fella! Biden seems a decent man who isn't divisive and despite his sometimes stilted speech, his message about coming together is a much better one than the alternative Trump pours out. He doesn't stutter, he just repeats himself over and over again!
I do understand that Republicans are fed up with career politicians who never seem to be working for the people but when push comes to shove, Trump would always do what was best for him, not the people. He can't help it, it is just the way he is. He may be a "strong" character but he is so badly flawed, America is better off without him. What both parties need is a strong leader with minimal character flaws but with fresh political ideas.

Anniezee Sun 08-Nov-20 11:40:41

I guess Biden is there least worst option. Anything is better than Trump. Can't believe any woman would vote for him although millions did! Only in USA!

lemongrove Sun 08-Nov-20 11:37:14

Yes, ? having tried twice before, he must have been grateful for another shot at it.

Kryptonite Sun 08-Nov-20 11:29:39

And doesn't it just show that you're never too old to achieve your dreams!

lemongrove Sun 08-Nov-20 11:10:44

Gwenisgreat1

Think actually it was between the devil and the deep blue sea!! They got the Deep blue sea!! Could the US not find better than two old codgers?? I think Kamala will be quite capable of taking over if necessary.

I think Gwen says it more succinctly than me?

I usually prefer the ‘wait and see’ approach because it’s the more sensible one.
I don’t think Biden is senile... but he does have a lot of memory problems and has made many gaffes over the last year during rallies/speeches.He’s too old for the job, they both are! Yes, he can read off a speech, but I hope he will be up to the actual nuts and bolts of the job. There has been four years there of a terrible President and I don’t think Biden will be terrible, but he could be an almost absent one. That’s the worry.

What evidence have you got that he will be absent? Has he been absent over the past 4 years.

If you have no evidence why say such things? Maybe it is your bias against a politician that is the antithesis of the sort of populist nationalistic politics that you support?

What rubbish WW
I used to support the Lib Dems for many years including up to the coalition.Later I voted Conservative which was worth it, if only to keep the awful Corbyn and McDonnell out of Downing St. This election...to break the paralysis in Parliament and make sure we left the EU.Job done.
In any future election I shall make my mind up at the time.
If you have read most (any) of my GN posts then you will know that not only am I hugely relieved to have a crazy President out of the White House, but have always maintained from the outset that Johnson was the worst choice for PM out of the candidates.
There is no evidence that Biden will be a largely absent President.....but there is the worry ( which I have already expressed) that he’s getting older all the time and is he up to the job both mentally and physically.I hope he is, but the concern is there for a President starting a term of office ( and such a demanding one) at that age. It’s astounding that the US could even put him forward as a candidate in the primaries.
