Apart from possible dementia problems the other worrying think about Biden is that he supported the IRA. If the Republicans hold the Senate it is going to end as a lame duck presidency anyway.
If Trump is right and some votes were ‘planted’ he can’t get away from the fact that it was a very close run election which is not a very good thing. I can see real problems in the US with people not accepting it and there being protests.
A troubling time. Surely the US can find better candidates for the Presidency next time. And for a so called advanced country you would have thought there was a better and quicker way of counting votes.

Think actually it was between the devil and the deep blue sea!! They got the Deep blue sea!! Could the US not find better than two old codgers?? I think Kamala will be quite capable of taking over if necessary.

Listening this morning to the news, his family is talking about building motels in Trump supporting states, Trump setting up a tv channel (he needs to replace Fox News) and grooming Ivanka to stand as a candidate in 4 years time.
Given that he did win over 70 million of the popular vote she should got a lot of support next time round and Daddy will be visible in the background.

So he's not going to go away any time soon, unfortunately.

I shall be glad when our own Trump-lite is no longer PM

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Nov-20 10:55:34

There are suggestions that Trump plans to do a deal to get him out.

Just go in and escort the man out - bodily if necessary!!

Scottiebear Sun 08-Nov-20 10:52:47

Thank goodness. Been watching CNN with fingers crossed for days. Would love to see the men in black escorting Trump out of the WH. Be interesting to see if prosecutions follow. Tax evasion seems considered worse than murder in the US.

Trump was far from being a great president, but at least he was always friendly with the UK.

Biden is very different to his predecessor, and it remains to be seen whether the friendship will continue.

Melania has been with Trump for years. Not sure what the appeal is although can make a few guesses...power and money, but her choice. Personally l'd rather be broke than be with that chavanist

Applegran Sun 08-Nov-20 10:02:44

Its a huge relief! Not that the future is at all clear - Biden has a huge task ahead of him - but not to have Trump in the White House is a wonderful prospect. I hope Trump will, in spite of his history, find a way to step down with grace and promote the nation coming together. But as i write that, I can see that it looks very unlikely..........but still hope!

???

Annaram1 Sun 08-Nov-20 10:01:14

If you think Biden is a bit demented, I think Trump is quite mad. As for Melania, of course she married him for his money. What else?
Good luck to a decent man.

My God! So many people celebrating the death of Democracy from a hugely corrupt election, the UK will be next. Welcome to Communism!

How ridiculous.

What do you mean - you can't believe the US had to suffer him? They voted him in!

I have sisters and other close relatives living in middle america and this means a lot more to me because of my very real worries for thier safety.

What’s going to happen to them?

Best newspaper headline this morning....
South Ayrshire golf club owner loses 2020 presidential election.

Even though not living in America, I feel that it's a huge relief. Who knows what trouble that horrible man would have caused over 4 more years? I reckon there'll be some issues between now and January but in the end he'll be gone. Biden will certainly inherit a broken country though, I feel rather sorry for him. I wonder if Trump will have to actually be dragged kicking and screaming from the White House?

I usually prefer the ‘wait and see’ approach because it’s the more sensible one.
I don’t think Biden is senile... but he does have a lot of memory problems and has made many gaffes over the last year during rallies/speeches.He’s too old for the job, they both are! Yes, he can read off a speech, but I hope he will be up to the actual nuts and bolts of the job. There has been four years there of a terrible President and I don’t think Biden will be terrible, but he could be an almost absent one. That’s the worry.

What evidence have you got that he will be absent? Has he been absent over the past 4 years.

If you have no evidence why say such things? Maybe it is your bias against a politician that is the antithesis of the sort of populist nationalistic politics that you support?

lemon as you have been saying for the past 5 years.

Let’s wait and see, if your naivety of believing a lie that Biden is senile put out by the Trump camp comes to fruition

For myself I prefer to embrace the moment.

Daisymae Sun 08-Nov-20 08:50:54

5 million is a tiny percentage when looking at the figures as a whole. A whisker off of half of the voters wanted Trump to remain. I find that the most incredible fact about the US voters.

It's hardly a clear win for Biden, or a rejection of the Trump presidency. Despite all that has gone on over the last 4 years, in the middle of a pandemic, Trump has actually increased his popular vote from 2016. Staggering. Biden has won but there's a lot of Americans who were happy with Trump as a president. Or maybe they were not happy with the alternative?

I think that’s exactly it.... they weren’t happy with the alternative. If they had been, then Biden would have won by a landslide.

Bluebelle it’s as far from wishful thinking on my part as you can actually get (knocking Biden) I am delighted that Trump is out but worried about an old man with memory problems
Being in such a highly important situation. I hope he will be up to the job because it’s a tiring full on one, with lots of travelling involved as well.
For now, it’s just euphoric that there is a normal human being in the White House ( or almost in) but after that, well it’s a case of hoping that he is well propped up.

Lilypops Sun 08-Nov-20 08:27:07

Joe Biden comes across as a kind caring man , he has had a lot of sadness in his early family life , He is not a narcisstic egomaniac like DT, I think he will make a good President,
What on earth did Melania see in Trump when she married him. !!! ? $$$$$

Whitewavemark2 Sun 08-Nov-20 08:11:31

5million More in the popular vote and there is more to come.n

306 to 232

Seems pretty decisive to me
