Who will be left in the Labour Party?

Angela Rayner is apparently willing to suspend "thousands of members" in order to tackle antisemitism, so is she right? Is it as widespread as she imaginesor is it once again a fight between the LP members and its leadership. And if they are all suspended who will be left?

That’s a frankly ridiculous post grany

MaizieD Fri 04-Dec-20 14:56:33

The link biba posted works absolutely fine, lemon but you could try this one.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjhHhL_15Nw&feature=youtu.be

I've watched it and I'm now despairing.

Grany Fri 04-Dec-20 14:40:51

Looks like they are getting rid of the left who support Palestine. So if you don't support Israel friends of Israel You are the wrong type of Jew. You should be able to speak up there is Freedom of speech you should not be stopped from having your voice heard.

lemongrove Fri 04-Dec-20 14:26:55

Nothing, ( the link won’t work for me) but my comment was that the LP might well think that ( after all, it can’t really be that she is ‘the wrong sort of Jew’) that in itself would be anti-Semitic.

trisher Fri 04-Dec-20 14:21:26

Just what do you find "wrong" about her message lemon?

lemongrove Fri 04-Dec-20 13:45:26

Or perhaps just deeply unpleasant and spreading the wrong message.

trisher Fri 04-Dec-20 13:40:35

Just Googled it and it is true www.thejc.com/news/uk/labour-suspends-senior-jvl-official-after-deeply-unpleasant-meeting-1.509331
Seems the LP considers her "the wrong sort of Jew" as well.

trisher Fri 04-Dec-20 13:36:17

Oh no! Greeneyedgirl if that is true it's unbelievable. And maybe I will change the OP -who on earth would want to be left in this sorry excuse for left wing values?

Greeneyedgirl Fri 04-Dec-20 13:27:43

In answer to the original OP......... Not Me!
I see that Naomi Wimborne Idrissi who spoke about “the wrong type of Jew” on the YouTube link that was posted up thread, has been suspended from the LP.
I am glad to be out, and so are many others that I know who have left in recent days.

Have you looked at all types of membership , I dont pay that much!

Fennel Fri 04-Dec-20 13:04:55

As a side issue - husband got a letter from our local LP today asking for £50 to renew his membership! After a year.
So they do seem to have financial problems.
I'm sure joining the party used to involve paying a one off subscription
Who can afford £50 per year?

MaizieD Fri 04-Dec-20 12:39:33

The 'red wall' voters don't seem to have a problem with the current Labour Party

Fine, Trisher.

My point is that all the Starmer-hating posts on here are getting boring because they are by now very repetitive.

We have already got the message that you and some others on here don't like him. I'm sure you won't be betraying your principles if you give it a rest!

I for one will not be spending time trying to persuade you to change your mind.

trisher Fri 04-Dec-20 11:15:06

I'm sure Keir Starmer is really worried about the people on here who don't like him!

Why do you incessantly bang on about him?

Why incessantly repeat the prediction that the left will leave the Labour Party in the New Year? It's become really boring.

Just get on with it and leave, why don't you!

But if you want a leadership election first to see if your favoured candidate can beat Starmer I suggest you try and find someone a bit more coherent than Lavery! It's not as if he has an amazing personality and is really eloquent.

Well mostly because he is the leader of the LP and is generally not standing up for the basic standards of the party which might be summed up as Equality, Freedom of Speech, Support for the poorest and weakest, Unity. None of which there is any evidence Starmer has actually acted in accordance with. So although he may make great speeches in the Hof C I don't trust the man. "By his deeds shall ye know him" an all that!

Galaxy Fri 04-Dec-20 10:45:51

I know I am just crying at the idea of ian lavery, again from near my area, reputation beyond words.

Galaxy Fri 04-Dec-20 10:43:36

I think I would prefer to go by the poll results trisher, the last I looked they were much more favourable to labour than they had been.

Galaxy purely speculation I know but if you were to canvass for an election tomorrow how many people do you think would recognise Starmer if presented with his photo on their doorstep?

People only vote for people whose faces they recognise?

That's a very facile judgement of voters, isn't it?

No more facile than thinkng that Boris Johnson was more electable because he was a TV personality.
I do think personality is becoming more and more important and the very sad thing about Kier Starmer is that he doesn't seem to have a notable one.

Devorgilla Fri 04-Dec-20 10:16:33

OT60, I didn't say 40 had passed it, merely that they had discussed it.
As to banned members returning as new members, that is outside my job description, but I am pretty sure, that by using various emails and addresses, someone determined to get their point of view across could engineer it.
What I read into your post re TUs meeting is that, because they have the means, they can dictate to the majority what will happen.

trisher Fri 04-Dec-20 10:15:26

Devorgilla Trisher, I meant to address a previous issue of yours as to how we know some tweets come from Labour members but life got in the way. We do it in the same way exam boards use programmes to scan essays and papers and see the similarities of delivery and language. We, of course, use our brains and previous knowledge. For example several posters on this site are convinced that GD43 was reincarnated as Sara70, who was reincarnated as Nanfer5g who is reincarnated as???????? A bit like those Biblical verses that start Abraham begat.
All this means is that you are able to identify some posters who post continually. It does not mean those posters are either LP members or members of Momentum (It probably also means you spend far too much time on social media) .

Galaxy Fri 04-Dec-20 10:10:50

shockSorry for typos.

Galaxy Fri 04-Dec-20 10:10:25

Anyone who believes twitter is a reflection of what is going on in reality is I am afraid utterly mistaken. Strangely enough corbyn shoul have won ny miles judging by reactions on twitter, its meaningless in terms of judging the opinion of the general public.

MaizieD Fri 04-Dec-20 10:05:43

Several like these on Starmer's every tweet.

Of course there are. Every prominent or well known person has responses like that to their tweets. It doesn't matter which side of the political spectrum they're on, or the 'trans' debate, or anything else that is contentious. There are lots of people around who just like to spew hate through their keyboards (and there are a fair number of bots, too. Commenters are not necessarily 'real' people)

I just posted the link in response to people claiming that Starmer does nothing outside his office.

I held my nose and looked at Johnson's twitter feed, too. He's not exactly out and about very much.
