Just that really. Watching the News tonight and it seems there are conflicting views, as always.

I find it really sad that, at this moment in time I’d be overjoyed with the most rubbishy rubbish deal that has ever been struck in the history of rubbish deals....

MaizieD Wed 16-Dec-20 20:55:32

I can't see anything anywhere about a done deal.

Where did you get it from, Wwmk2?

A DEAL IS DONE.

Thank goodness.

So now we can look to the future and build on the relationship as soon as we get rid of this nationalist populist government.

Fake news?.

MPs go home for Christmas - not fake news
Expect bad news, Sterling will fall, speculators will make a killing again. It’s being stage managed by ?.

Are you sure? I thought it had been denied?

Led by donkeys has a new video. The dossier sounds very interesting! (Mentioned beneath the first tweet). Historians will be combing through that in the future

I've caught up with this thread rather quickly, rather than reading and digesting. A couple of things sprang immediately to mind:
Paddyanne - how very angry you always are about the Scottish -WM thing. I accept Scotland is not, like the north of England, part of England. Having said that, many people in the north of England are as fed up as you are about rule by posh boys in WM. Honestly, what does a posh boy who went to Eton/Oxbridge understand about the realities of growing up in Wythenshawe (enter stage right, Marcus Rashford)

- Fake News, the ERG and the nonsense that is Brexit. I feel genuine despair. Of course, as a Remainer I would have preferred (understatement) to stay as part of the European Union. That boat sailed as a result of a c**p campaign by Remain and the simple slogans and lies (aka fake news) perpetrated by Johnson, Gove, Cummings and co. All under instruction from the ERG who have caused mayhem in the Conservative party for longer than I care to remember.

- I long for politics where sensible, thoughtful people of various political persuasions genuinely debate the issues. We need an effective government, which we do not have. We have imo the best Labour leader we've had in many years, yet a LP where the Momentum lot try to dominate debate and the headlines. The problems in the Conservative party are similar if different to those in the Labour Party. The extremes are attempting to dominate. I wish Johnson would show some bottle and sort his lot out.

Parliament refused to vote for May’s deal.....am sure this year they wish they had.

It was the tory ERG that stymied it, lemon. She couldn't win with her minority government.

They will no doubt try to stymie Johnson's deal, but the numbers aren't enough to overcome his majority

This blog gives the numbers for various scenarios

That we agree on, much the same deal packaged differently

May must be spitting tacks!

Whitewavemark2 Wed 16-Dec-20 16:10:19

I think it is the ERG we have to watch

If you are prepared to find/ copy and paste lots of info ww
That’s fine, I am most certainly not.You made a statement that it’s the deal ( meaning the exact deal) that was offered in Summer. It isn’t.

Quite right, it isnt the exact deal, but it is pretty close to the deal Theresa May could have had, before all those redline were put in place and the moved and eventually abandoned.

That is of course IF a deal is done.

Sterling has gained a lot on the last 3 days on the optimism of a deal but don’t discount a setback, it’s going to be very volatile until New Year.

^Call it a Australia deal if you want save face but it’s quite clear we will have to comply with EU regulations for what we send them.^

Best bear in mind that an 'Australia style deal' in reality is simply Johnson-speak for No Deal.

Australia does not have a deal with the EU.

It’s another Tory lie I think or at least trying to bend the truth.

Peter Bone is completely bonkers (polite) so not a surprise to see his name linked to fake news.

There are a number of them I think.

I'd be interested in the list - and would hope that Johnson would actually draw a line and make clear its completely unacceptable (pigs might fly, it's probably and order from Dom)

Nezumi65 Wed 16-Dec-20 14:36:33

The last minute stuff REALLY shafts UK businesses.

According to the latest by Ursula V L there is ‘ a narrow path’
Now to an agreement with both sides coming closer.
There was always going to be this narrow path to an agreement and it was always going to arrive at the last minute.?

I won’t copy and paste because it is so long, but you can find it if you search the EU publications dated 25 August giving a summary to date and both sides stance.

Interestingly the U.K. seemed pretty amenable to the EU suggestion at that time, U.K. seemed to have subsequently rowed back. Not sure why. Maybe the headbangers?

Ah I understand now. You are talking about the transactional arrangements, and yes they aren’t seen as a point of principle by the EU.

I was talking about the principle agreement, which will remain as the summer suggestion by the EU.
