Presenter Kay Burley taken off the air by SKY news

She was replaced by another presenter this morning. She broke Covid rules by having a 60th pre-birthday bash with a dozen SKY colleagues in a London restaurant & then continued the party at her home.

She’s apologised profusely for ‘inadvertently’ breaching the rules.

SKY news say she won’t be back until next year.

Beth Rigby was there too. They’ve given a hard line to other rule breakers ‘are you going to resign over this?’ for similar breaches.

Wonder if she’ll resign? No, I don’t think so either ...

Mamardoit. Originally I was querying your comment referring to nicola sturgeon as cranky and saying she hadn’t “sacked” Margaret Ferrier. I guess from memory my second post was maybe asking you to agree that nicola sturgeon was not to blame ?
I don’t think I was “moderating”.

Namsnanny Wed 16-Dec-20 14:34:14

Of course the suspension is on full pay!

Mamardoit you can report your own post and ask for it to be deleted.

Sorry I may have miss understood Lucca's post. Pity we dont have a delete function.

I think you are correct about MPs unfortunately. That is why the MP for Peterborough was able to remain an MP and vote even though she done time in prison.

So nicola sturgeon not to be blamed for not “ sacking” Margaret ferrier then ??

Do you make a habit of moderating posts??

Perhaps the notion of British exceptionalism gives some of the London elites permission in their own minds to disobey the rules that were obviously never meant to apply to them.

MayBee70 Thu 10-Dec-20 17:38:23

Lexisgranny: I totally agree with you. I’m just trying to get into the mindset of supposedly intelligent people to try to make sense of it. I probably feel more let down/angry/disappointed than a lot of people because I did really enjoy seeing them on Sky News.

Urmstongran Thu 10-Dec-20 17:31:26

Well, well.

6 months suspension from SKY for Kay Burley.
And 3 months suspension for Beth Rigby & the others.

Margaret Ferrier was kicked out of her party,Cath Calderhead lost her job ....that didn't happen to ANY of the tories who broke the rules and there were many .Tell me again how we're all in this together?

It also didn’t happen to Stephen Kinnock, Vaughan Gething, Jeremy Corbyn et al..... what selective memories folks have!

Glorybee Thu 10-Dec-20 16:37:54

Agreed? That was nice of them!

EllanVannin Thu 10-Dec-20 16:35:44

Surly Burley won't be missed.

A thought just occurred to me. Why wouldn’t the original restaurant allow Kay Burley to go back in to “use their facilities” whilst waiting for a taxi. It would seem that a party of 10 would have run up a sizeable bill, and would have expected some consideration.

Lexisgranny Thu 10-Dec-20 12:29:50

MayBee70 Unfortunately we have been given a set of rules to follow in order to try to take pressure off the NHS and to cut down the number of deaths until the vaccinations take hold, much as we don’t like them, it does seem unwise not to follow them.

I fully take your point about them working together all day and being unable to socialise outside of work. However look at schoolchildren and students , we are expecting them to do just that. How will parents justify this if people in the public eye flout the rules.

In the case of Kay Burley, she is known for her ascerbic interviewing techniques, and has been particularly down on those who have committed infringements. I’m afraid in my eyes she has lost all credibility. She may or may not be a shareholder at Sky, but if the company has integrity, this should not give her a “get out of goal’ card.

Anniezee Thu 10-Dec-20 11:14:50

I am fed up with hearing that such people have "made a mistake". No they haven't. They have purposely gone against government Covid guidelines and are only sorry afterwards that they have been found out. Appalling behaviour.

MayBee70 Thu 10-Dec-20 11:09:48

Yet again, I’m not defending her and still furious about what she has done. But it made me think that it’s ok for people to work together day in day out but not socialise outside of work because their work colleagues aren’t in their bubble. I mean, they must travel to outside locations for filming, use toilets when they’re out: probably pre arranged with local hotels?

arosebyanyothername Thu 10-Dec-20 11:01:25

What made her think she'd get away with that? Arrogant woman angry
I dislike her interview techniques and her tone of voice.
Be good to have the choice of which news to watch in the morning again.

Urmstongran Thu 10-Dec-20 11:01:00

Actually, Adam Boulton (a SKY presenter on politics programme) tweeted ‘Moron’ about Kay Burley. Not a nice word especially to put out in the public area about a colleague but demonstrates how furious he was about it all.

Not sure whether KB (whose own slot is called the ‘Kay Burley Show’ which says a lot doesn’t it?) was/is a prominent shareholder in SKY. I think she’s Teflon to be honest.

Helenlouise3 Thu 10-Dec-20 10:59:01

Unbelievable. An intelligent woman like her doesn't "inadvertently" break the rules, it was blatant. have to say that I've always thought of her as being like a dog with a bone and it's been quite funny watching politicians squirm when being interviewed, especially during this covid period. I'm afraid though, she needs to go!

Mamardoit Thu 10-Dec-20 10:56:36

Yes I wonder who spilled the beans. Back stabbed by a 'friend,' or didn't leave a big enough tip?

There are photos too. How bloody stupid of them all.

Callistemon Thu 10-Dec-20 10:54:07

Sky has no choice but to suspend or probably sack Kay Burley and any other employees involved in this event. London is currently in tier 2 and said to be heading for tier 3. The fact that other people have breached guidelines means nothing. She did. she should not have done so, her sense of entitlement got the better of her. How can she hold politicians, or people like Dominic Cummings, to account if she's done the same stupid, irresponsible and selfish things herself.

Iam64 has summed it up well.

They are not fit for purpose.

Lexisgranny Thu 10-Dec-20 10:48:05

I don’t know where Brecht came from, but it did make me smile. I obviously meant Brexit!
