New EU Treaty - a good deal or not?

I thought this deserved its own thread. This deal is about to be announced and I’ve just heard Farage on the radio claiming it will be sellout. Trying to stir the pot already. Just wondered how it will be spun. There will be a lot of relieved businesses and relief that there is no deal at least.

Indeed- you do realise that some remainers have also achieved the same btw.

Of course I do Biba - it’s only the cheery disposition that’s missing with them - when did you read Urmstongran complaining ad nauseum when stuff doesn’t go her way.?

Especially when she was stuck in Spain through COVID! Fair cheered everyone up daily on the Good Morning thread!

Not difficult.

Anything to say about the deal? We have quite a lot of information now to be able to have the opportunity to look at it a bit critically havent we?

Not remotely hysterical.

Good job ‘febrile ramblings’ could never be construed as an insult. confused

Last minute hysteria as folks finally realise that the UK is out of the EU with a deal that they have been predicting would never happen as from 01/01/2021 and their is nothing that their febrile ramblings and insults can do to alter it.

I’d be interested in your thoughts on the deal. I’m surprised at the amount of sovereignty we have we seem to have continued to give up.

Nezumi65 Sun 27-Dec-20 18:28:42

Certainly not belittling anyone. I don’t judge people’s intelligence based on the university they attended or whether they attended university (if you look at Sunak’s bio he attended Winchester - it’s not that difficult to get into Oxford from Winchester). I’m sure he’s reasonably clever but I doubt he’s a genius and I would encourage anyone to challenge his opinions.

Indeed I know people who are almost certainly as clever as Sunak who left school at 16.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 27-Dec-20 18:27:35

Sp * their should be there

But let’s get into a silly argument rather than address the issues so much easier to bicker isn’t it?

So I will not take part in silly argument.

^I would suggest that because you figure Sunak is more intelligent than yourself and you are prepared to believe what he says without apparent criticism is facile, not my reaction to such a comment^

WW you make a series of entirely unsubstantiated assumptions about the following
1) me
2) what I “figure” as you put it
3) my intelligence vis à vis that of Rishi Sunak
4) what I may or not believe

The fact that you know diddley squat about me is further evidence that you do not have a leg to stand on - bandying insults is as good as it seems to get.
I repeat, your silly comment to Urmstongran about jumping off a pier is facile- neither perceptive nor informed.

Gosh....I’m stunned that ‘clever’ people feel the need to belittle someone of the cheeriest dispositions who seems to me to have done okay in life (in spite of her intellectual limitations)!

A happy marriage, healthy and happy children and grandchildren, not to mention two properties - home and away! All bought and paid for - is that why folks feel the need to attack?

Bit weird.

Advising someone to think more critically and not accept someone’s rhetoric at face value is not attack. I am not even accepting that ug is indeed less intelligent than Sunak! In fact I suspect not.

Of course Freeport’s will be very attractive to the wealthy, don’t forget that they have neatly avoided the Tax Avoidance Directive.

Sunak is very intelligent. If he thinks they’re a good idea I’m with him. Thinking about them is above my pay grade. I know my intellectual limitations.

Thank you for admitting that * UG*. So many brexiters are still unaware of their intellectual limitations.

I have similar qualifications to Sunak and am unclear why we shut our Freeports in 2012.

They had negligible benefit to our economy, but seen as havens of tax avoidance.

^I expect Sunak will advise you to jump off the nearest pier soon, but could I advise you to think critically and what is in your interest?^

Don’t be facile

David0205 If you read my post of 1703, you will see that the vast majority are not cancelling our accounts. We have lost Barclaycard after 50 years but the UK bank account is fine.

^ but it doesn’t really make sense for UK banks to have retail accounts overseas.^

It's not just banks offering retail services in the EU/EEA, though, is it, David0205?

No it isn’t just retail, if banks want to have business customers or share dealing they can get a licence if they want to. For relatively small private accounts probably would not be worthwhile.

I am surprised to hear Sunak talk about the virtues of free ports.

Freeport’s are one of the biggest tax havens in any country, and the ability to evade customs charges, tariffs, tax and VAT will be an absolute gift to unscrupulous people, particularly the ultra wealthy like Sunak.

Freeport’s are also heavily linked to terrorist activities, like gun running, all forms of criminal activity and corruption.
