SubscribeI watched Johnson being interviewed by Marr, and was in high hopes that he would manage 15 minutes without lying.
Well he so nearly managed it until the last minute. Then out it popped.
Poor old Johnson, what a cross to bear, never managing to open your mouth or putting pen to paper without lying.

Well I’m not bashing anyone. The pulse fishing may be a Conservative advert but in my opinion all governments have used the EU as something to blame instead of their own poor performance and have taken credit for EU achievements as though they did it themselves.
Personally I think it’s been going on for decades.
Starmer is conspicuous by his absence in all this I notice. Hasn't got anything to say for himself has he ?

Not that I’m aware of.
“Asked by #Marr how his Brexit deal would help “community’s left behind” the best Boris Johnson could come up with was “free ports” & “banning pulse fishing!”
Neither has anything to do with Brexit or his trade deal!”
So the poor and leave voters must be thrilled that Johnson couldn’t come up with a single Brexit benefit.
Third lie.
Oh dear. I am new to this site and sad to see that the political infighting is here too! I don’t remember such divisions years ago, but maybe I was just too busy bringing up children and working to notice. However, no-one seems to be nasty with it, and it’s good to be able to express and respect differences.

He’s on Andrew Marr next week.

Hello, gransnet.
I love this {grin]
Nothing like a fresh eye on a situation...
Thank you, and welcome, JanetG.
I do think you'll find that Gnet is far from peace and harmony in some places, though.
Yes, JanetG - we do all have opinions here - but welcome!
If Starmer is on Andrew Marr next week it will be interesting to see how much of an ‘easy ride’ he gets. I wonder if he will be allowed to speak unlike the Prime Minister who was constantly interrupted.
The BBC really needs to employ an interviewer who is impartial.
The UK has brought forward the ban on pulse trawling in UK waters, it will continue elsewhere until the EU ban comes in to force in six months. The Dutch are the biggest users of this harmful practice. Our government are also likely to ban the use of huge super trawlers and move further to protecting marine life.
No lies on fishing that I heard.
We’ve only just left. Day three. Tax on sanitary products abolished. A ban on live animal exports underway. Freeport’s on the horizon. There’ll be business deregulation. Our country will flourish and a handful of naysayers won’t stop us. I know that there are half a dozen on here who have an apoplectic fit if anything good is said about our government so you carry on. I’m going for a nice soak in the bath. ?
PS don’t forget that we have huge quantities of the vaccine on the way, unlike the EU who have really cocked up resulting in Germany upsetting the other 26 with an extra sneaky deal for their own citizens. Aren’t you glad we didn’t buy in with the bloc?
Tax on sanitary products abolished.
Could have happened at least 5 years ago. Tories chose not to implement it.
In fact, all the tory MPs slapping their own backs about this on twitter yesterday actually voted against removing VAT from sanpro in 2015.
We've had Freeports before, while we were in the EU, and some still exist in the EU. They haven't been particularly successful so I'm not sure what the tories are hoping to get out of them this time. Apparently they do tend to be a vehicle for money laundering and tax evasion.
Banning live animal exports is probably economically neutral, but it pleases some people.
OTOH, businesses have been hit with an estimated £7billion hit from extra red tape for exporters. SMEs will be particularly affected as they they're likely to not have the financial or HR capacity to take on the extra work. Then there's the need for phytosanitary checks for any thing exports involving plants or animals (dead or alive)
SMEs also likely to lose ROW suppliers because of the absurd new VAT rules which say that ROW exporters have to register with HMRC and collect VAT on all goods they export to the UK. It's highly likely that many will refuse to do it, cutting UK businesses off from suppliers. I'm not sure that that is a specifically Brexit 'thing' but it's certainly a further complication for trade...
Can't see much in that lot that will help us 'flourish'.
Would be happy to see some detail of how we're going to recoup the loss to GDP which is forecast post Brexit, 5%+ isn't it?
Perhaps we could look at all this in 12 month's time and make a judgement.

That’s a very sensible suggestion I think MaizieD, then we will know a lot more, at the moment it’s all posturing and point scoring.
I watched that interview and though how Johnson was so far our of his depth. He does not have thea bility to be an MP, let alone PM.
Apparently a recent poll ha shown that if there were a GE now, not only would he lose his majority, he would lose his own seat.
It seems there is a limit to the tolerence of even the most guillible Tory voters.

It doesn’t come into law until some time this year.

Well if you aren’t willing to start a Tory Love thread then stop dripping on about the anti-Tory threads.
Oh we both KNOW that would never work WW‼️
Remember a couple of years ago?
Cast your mind back ...
I started a thread called ‘GOOD NEWS about Brexit’ encouraging people to post any great news they’d read about what we can do well in the UK, information about positive things etc and it generated HOWLS of vitriol from the usual suspects telling me ‘you can’t tell me I can’t come on here and spoil this thread if I want to. It’s not for you to say who can and can’t post’.
And boy, did they post!
Such negativity about the UK. Telling us all we were delusional anyway as Brexit was a dead duck - the HoC numbers would see to that, it would never pass, blah due-blah.
So, a thread about positivity on the government?
Pigs might fly.
?
I sometimes think if a Tory government gave every person a million pounds, there are some who'd criticise it.
Nope there are Tories I agree with or even if I disagree with them I understand them. I dont think Johnson is a Tory in the way I understand a Tory to be.
They might disagree with it and whinge about how awful the Torres are lucretzia but I bet they’d take it! ?
That should read Tories
