Why do you think that is varian? Is it that things have changed over the last decade and lies have become more acceptable? Or is it the type of men like Boris Johnson have always been seen as "lovable rogues " and are not held to a high standard of behaviour?

I think that political debate in the UK has long been distorted by the influence of the foreign billionaires and tax exiles who own and direct our overwhelmingly right wing press.

There is also a more recent phenomenum- the cult of "celebrity" which has grown via tv reality shows and social media, the appalling Trump being the prime example of just how dangerous this is.

Politicians such as Johnson have so little regard for truth and continually get away with lying because their supporters simply don't care. They seem to regard politics as a branch of entertainment.

He’s 80, so he’s in the same category as your mum Whitewavemark to be fair, and we know from the press that the vaccine distribution method is uneven through the country, and that many doctors are giving the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine in accordance with the manufacturer recommendations rather than using the government guidance. I’m not defending anything, but unless you have evidence that prime ministerial privilege was used it’s difficult to say that something untoward has happened here.

Why has that man managed to get fully vaccinated BEFORE my 83 yo Mum, who has obediently stayed at home since March??

Couldn’t he have had it done in France? I thought that was his country of choice.

I agree Whitewavemark" that we cannot allow politicians to lie.

Compare the treatment meeted out to Nick Clegg, who had promised in the LibDem manifesto of 2010 not to raise tuition fees, then (in my view wrongly) agreed to allow it when his party were junior partners in a coalition in exchange for the Pupil Premium, compare his treatment with that of Boris Johnson, a man who has been sacked for lying at least twice (by The Times and by John Major).

Nick Clegg was pilloried relentlessly by the right wing media. Boris Johnson not only gets away with habitual lying, but is excused because he's "good old Boris", and ends up as PM, where his constant lying continues unabated and unremarked.

What I think this week has taught us is that leaders must not be allowed to lie. Nor should we accept populist leaders with their instigation of division and hate. But if they do, they must be called out with absolute vigour.

Lies has nearly brought the USA to civil war.

We must learn this lesson in the U.K.

Liars must not prevail, particularly liars who have modelled so much of their leadership on Trump presidency.

I think we need to look closer at our journalism. There have been times when the journalists have allowed the tide to drag them in particular directions in many First World countries. This has meant they have muted opposition to some of news outlets as, although they opposed they drifted with a movement more and more to the right or following nativist thinking. There has been a real tendency to beat up any opposition and our pillars or democracy.

Becoming increasingly clear Biden intends to clean up American Government. Means there are likely to be revelations about endemic corruption during years since 2016. That is potentially explosive for Johnson, Gove and Farage too, given networks that linked Brexit and Trump.

There is certainly a side of the Conservatives that resembles the Trump half of the Republican party.

Trump's political party affiliation has changed numerous times. He registered as a Republican in Manhattan in 1987, switched to the Reform Party in 1999, the Democratic Party in 2001, and back to the Republican Party in 2009

Good to read this morning that no British Conservative has actually ever heard of Donald Trump

I see Williamson has been trying to throw his weight around, and without any expertise on the subject has tried to force universities to adopt the IRHAs definition of anti-semitism.

He has been accused of unwarranted interference which is both legally and morally wrong. Freedom of speech must prevail, within the bounds of the law.

I think it is safe to assume that he will be ignored. ?

Reminder that Mogg understood that those voting for Trump were similar to those voting for Brexit.

Mogg cynicism is disgraceful.

Never forget that when the British Ambassador prophetically described Trumps behaviour as only ending in catastrophe for the USA and those befriending him. Johnson threw him to the dogs.
