Gavin Williamson is another diabolical (you know, erm) speaker. I find him hard to take seriously.

Mr Speaker told Johnson that

“Sometimes he really ought to try to answer the question”

Itsnotme Wed 13-Jan-21 16:47:39

Who else does it ? All of them because they don’t friggin know the answers !

This kind of stuttering isn't a condition. It is used to give thinking time when they are asked a question they don't want to answer. All politicians do it.

Urmstongran Wed 13-Jan-21 16:38:04

Matt Hancock!

Wheniwasyourage Wed 13-Jan-21 16:36:52

Who else do you think speaks in the same way?

Wheniwasyourage Wed 13-Jan-21 16:36:13

He doesn't have a stammer. He is a supposedly educated man who is in a leadership role and is perfectly capable of speaking clearly when what he is going to say is written down for him. I think a lot of his err ah mode (thank you AGAA4) is a combination of an irritating mannerism and a realisation that he doesn't actually know the answer to the question he has been asked. Most of the questions cannot be a big surprise, so perhaps he should spend a bit more time on preparation for PMQs and press conferences.

I shall now put on my tin hat and retire behind the sofa.

I agree Gwyneth and 99% of the time regardless of who it is I find myself shouting that at the tv too Parsley.

Callistemon Wed 13-Jan-21 16:29:47

I'm surprised at those who find stammering or stuttering a joke or show impatience with a person whose speech is hesitant for whatever reason.

Gwyneth Wed 13-Jan-21 16:26:56

Why is it only Boris singled out here? They all do it. I also find many of them very difficult to listen to.

AGAA4 Wed 13-Jan-21 16:22:22

It can be hard going listening to Boris when he is in err ah mode.

trisher Wed 13-Jan-21 16:20:20

I like Dead ringers where he hrumphs and grumphs and "Bad Boris" suddenly emerges.

Smileless2012 Wed 13-Jan-21 16:19:13

I find the majority of them hard to listen too TBH.

Parsley3 Wed 13-Jan-21 16:19:06

I kept shouting “Answer the question!”

kircubbin2000 Wed 13-Jan-21 16:17:21

PM question time is on in the background and all I can hear is this stuttering and every other word um or ah. Very hard to listen to him.
