I’m holding my breath. And I feel quite tearful!

I watched it whilst FaceTiming with DD1 who happens to live in downtown DC so enjoyed every minute of it. She went up to her roof terrace and watched the departure of DT with tears in her eyes, tears of relief that he was gone.

Thought all the performers did amazingly well but for me the best part was the Marine Band who played throughout in bitterly cold conditions.

DD1 went down to walk the dog yesterday and said the atmosphere had changed so much it was palpable. She was encouraged by the officials tidying up to take some of the thousands of flags that had been put in place.

I enjoyed watching the whole service and feel that the World is a safer place now that Trump is out.
Has anyone watched 'The Trump Show' available on BBC iplayer. 4 episodes and well worth watching.
I binged watched it and Episode 4 was so interesting I watched it twice.

My name is that of a male character from a favourite fantasy novel of mine - Saetan, which I added an "a" onto to make it female. The novel is the Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop - highly recommended if you are a fantasy fan [flowers}

Loved the feeling of diverse families who genuinely cared about each other and about their nation. A breath of fresh air at last.

Agreed Saetane, I found the simplicity of the whole service very reassuring and the flag ground covering very impressive.

Lucca Fri 22-Jan-21 01:19:38

Well said Santana.

welbeck Fri 22-Jan-21 00:33:45

I enjoyed the cut-down inauguration for the most part. Lady Gaga performed a beautiful and triumphant version of the American national anthem, J-Lo also perfomed a great mashup of two great american musical songs. Lady Gaga is a friend of Joe Biden back from the days when he was Barack Obamas VP and they worked on a campaign together. I think the musical and poetry offerings struck a good balance between the melting pot that is America with intentions of bringing people together and hope for the future. I cannot understand those who are sniping at these contributions and thus I challege them to bring forth their own song or poem to fit the proceedings - if they are so keen to criticise others. We in the UK are fully behind our Amerian cousins' attempts to return to normality - part of this should be raised in song, poetry and celebration!

The songs were ok it was the presentation. Earplugs wouldn't have gone amiss.

Some TVs don’t seem to have an OFF button sad

Good to hear that Dr Biden is carrying on working - I always thought that Michelle Obama must have been very bored as First Lady.

Michelle Obama was an extremely hard-working First Lady who achieved many reforms and improvements together with Dr Jill Biden. These are well documented in her books and elsewhere. In 2020 not without good reason did she top the Gallup's Pole of the most admired woman in America for the third year running.

My problem with the inauguration was not Lad Gaga or Jennifer-Lopez, but the man who sang “Amazing grace, how swee’ the soun’....”. He just couldn’t enunciate hard consonants.

I do prefer the swift and ruthless handover we have in the UK after a general election, but if the system requires two months to saddle up the wagons and get to the White House, then a a big noisy party makes a lot of sense.

I still haven't actually worked out what a 'lefty' is and what is wrong with being one... hmm

People have, over the years, tried to start discussions in this forum to tease out what is meant by this label, but funnily enough, the posters who toss out this label, spit it out, almost, as they are so clearly offended by 'lefties' and their ilk, never come to the discussion to offer a definition or tell what is so dreadful about them. grin

tidyskatemum Thu 21-Jan-21 22:35:35

Sooze58 He is a lefty, woke, virtue signalling man with a very dodgy background

What???? By UK standards he’s middle of the road, he’s been a successful Vice President and he’s trying to be inclusive. Very dodgy, unlike the entire Trump clan.

I’m very worried. I wasn’t a Trump fan but at least you could see everything - what you saw was what you got, whereas with Biden it’s hidden. He is a lefty, woke, virtue signalling man with a very dodgy background.....
He is an IRA sympathiser who with Obama bombed 7 different countries!!! His speech was a load of waffle which everyone wanted to hear but meant nothing. He was very quick to condemn (quite rightly) the storming of the Capitol, but no condemnation of the Antifa rioting and looting. Dangerous man.

Very astute.

???????

Apparently her bag alone has a $30000 label ?

But she probably got it free.

Give it a rest. Everyone I know has praised the singing and the poetry.

I don't have much sympathy for Melania Trump but whenever I saw her in those ridiculous 6 inch heels I thought "I do hope she gets millions in alimony, to make the pain worth it"

Thank you for your wishes. A hard road ahead, as the toxicity runs deep. We'll need all the goodwill, fair winds, and good luck we can get. I'm afraid goodwill in certain quarters is in very short supply, but I'm hopeful that if anyone can get things moving in the right direction this team can. Importantly, we can say Welcome Back, science!

Welcome? it is so good to hear from our American friends.

I’ve been an avid watcher during the past few months and thrilled to see Biden get elected.

I’m sure that not all the ills will be dealt with but let’s hope enough can be done to start mitigating against the huge divisions in the USA.

With regard to shoes, did the new First Lady not change from a pair of blue shoes that matched her coat to a cream (probably more comfortable) pair - what a sensible lady.

Sorry about my reference to Bernice Sanders. Stupid auto-correct! Now I can't stop imagining a female Bernie. ?

I thought I'd experiment by typing Bernie
Up came 'Ecclestone' as a suggestion!
