Is Boris's trip essential?

Boris is planning to go to Scotland to meet Nicola Sturgeon to discuss how coronavirus is being handled and I expect he will slip in the little matter of Scottish independence while he is there. Nicola Sturgeon has asked him not to go as it is not essential travel. It seems ironic that he is travelling all that way to talk about the virus, breaking his own rules on travel in the process.

Oh well that’s absolutely fine then. Well done Boris have a great trip.
Can Nobody leave aside their political prejudices and agree that this is not essential travel ?
I’m nothing to do with SNP, I just think he’s setting a really bad example......again.

Did he bring Cummings or has he wandered off to Barnard Castle?

Thé truth is many people are hurting through their use of drugs Firecracker. That is what hurts me along with the lack of compassion shown by you, irrespective of what Nationality one might be.

How do you know what my feelings are towards drug use. I was just stating that Scotland is the drugs capital of the world. Perhaps the sainted Nicola should concentrate on sorting Scotlands problems first rather than trying to break up the UK.

I must be missing something.
What exactly does any of that have to do with Boris's unnecessary and rule-breaking trip to Scotland, Firecracker? confused

No, I do not think the visit was remotely necessary. If he’d wanted to dress up in a lab coat and pretend-play at being a virologist he could have done it at home. The outfit will be in the dressing up box along with his hard hat, hi-vis jacket and steel toe cap boots that he likes to show off on building sites.

Political campaigning during a pandemic is NOT essential and it’s quite possible that the health and maybe even lives of others were put at risk today in order to indulge his fantasies.

NO

BJ's approval rating is 39%, but probably a lot lower in Scotland. I expect this nonsense will lower it everywhere but especially in SCotland.

Lucca I completely agree with you. At a time when the country is in lockdown and we are told not to leave our house or travel unless for essential and exceptional circumstances he set a poor example.

An 800 mile round day trip at the height of a pandemic, for a 5 minute photo shoot was ill advised. I fail to see what can be gained from it.

biba70 Thu 28-Jan-21 19:17:00

BTW the comments by Rees Mogg in the House of C. were totally insulting and personal attacks on Nicola Sturgeon. I just do not understand why The Speaker did not stop him in his tracks and asked him to apologise. This Speaker really needs to do his job - including insisting that Johnson answers the questions in PMQ, instead of going on pre-pared rant and attack to waste time and NOT ever reply.

Bring back John Bercow!

25Avalon Thu 28-Jan-21 19:34:32

No no anything but John Betcow, the poisoned dwarf.

25Avalon Thu 28-Jan-21 19:34:43

Bercow

Oldbat1 Thu 28-Jan-21 20:36:35

No there is no need for him to go on a 900mile round trip to do what exactly?

vegansrock Thu 28-Jan-21 22:12:19

It was a pointless photo op to show he’s been to Scotland. He must have been bored to tears. One vaccination centre or factory must look pretty similar to another, I’m sure he’d have preferred a whiskey distillery, he could still have dressed up in a white coat and those purple gloves. Not remotely essential and risky with all the entourage and press following. It’s a vote winner - for the SNP.

Esspee Thu 28-Jan-21 22:31:33

He did a great job today.......for the SNP!

Someone needs to tell him that his presence, even him speaking about Scotland is counter productive for the Conservative Party.

Kalu Thu 28-Jan-21 23:06:46

Firecracker Your feelings towards anyone suffering through drug abuse are blatantly obvious when your nasty post to highlight the plight of drug abuse was used as a cheap shot at Nicola Sturgeon which, may I remind you, is not the subject we are discussing on this thread.

vegansrock Fri 29-Jan-21 06:57:27

It’s telling he didn’t meet any fishermen this time. Johnson, English nationalists and Brexit have done more for Scottish independence than the SNP.

What tired old clichés you come out with.

Scotland remains drug-death capital
In Scotland there are about 25 drug deaths a week and in Greater Glasgow someone dies from an overdose every 31 hours

Thread title “is Boris’ trip essential?”

Why not start a new thread about how to solve the drug problem in Scotland ? (Or indeed the UK).

Just a thought.

Galaxy Fri 29-Jan-21 09:53:32

Are we now just chucking in random statistics that have nothing to do with the thread.
51% of UK adults own a pet. Of those pets 2% are rabbits. I feel a bit sad to be in the 2%grin

That made me laugh very hard grin

You are right, Lucca That subject deserves its own thread, not to be tacked onto a completely different conversation. I could chuck in some observations on the weather, and tell you about the cauliflower I ordered which turned out to be the size of a football and has provided six plates of cauliflower cheese and five bowls of cauli and stiliton soup, with some still gone brown and thrown out. But I won't.

LauraNorder Fri 29-Jan-21 11:03:22

No, probably not essential travel but it is his job to be seen, to be personally thanking great effort, to be personally showing sympathy in troubled times.
‘Come and see for yourself Prime Minister’.
