Something joyful for William and Catherine to focus on.

Strangely it seems to be acceptable to be born into a wealthy family and be a millionaire if you decide to become a left wing politician. Tony Benn springs to mind.

NellG Tue 16-Mar-21 17:26:26

What is perceived as unearned privilege always divides people Lexisgranny. Unfortunately it wouldn't matter how hard a family had worked for what they have, or how little they had the perception of them having 'more' than others is often disproportionate to the ability to live and let live.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 16-Mar-21 17:24:27

Totally agree with your post Lexigranny

Smileless2012 Tue 16-Mar-21 17:22:13

Which begs the question Lexisgranny is it inverted snobbery or jealousy?

Lexisgranny Tue 16-Mar-21 17:17:29

I have a lot of sympathy for Pippa and her contempories. This thread and comments elsewhere have raised again a question I have thought about often. I wish someone could explain to me why it is nowadays preferable to have been born into a poor family, rather than a middle class one, or God forbid, an upper class one. The worse thing to admit is that you were privately educated, a big no-no, it might result in sounding ‘Posh’. No-one chooses the family into which they are born, no-one should feel they have to disguise their birthright be they born in castle or cottage, nor should they have to put up with snide remarks. The child of a rich man with 4 A*s at A level has as much right to a top university place as the daughter of a poor one and vice versa.

Rant over, By the way before there is any speculation I was not born into a rich family, nor a poor one, but I was privately educated for 8 years.

BigBertha1 - Too right!

Sorry got hair colour wrong - shows how few gossip columns I read. She’s still posh though.

She can’t help the family she was born into, any more than someone who isn’t ‘posh’. We have no choice as to our birth, but we do have a choice about being unkind, unpleasant and judgemental.

Thank you suziewoozie.

Don't accuse me of dishonesty suziewoozie?angry.

I have acknowledged that posts have been made by some to pursue their own agenda and perhaps you would like so show where I have tried "to shift the blame to others who respond".

Yes Ellaine "it was a nice thread to begin with".

I was going to post the same thing Annie. This thread doesn't matter and is of no interest' and you're still here suziewooziehmm.

I didn’t think I’d accused you of dishonesty but if it came across that way I’m very sorry. I think it’s clear what happened to start dissent on this thread but I realise that some will not want to see it that way. And as Fanny understood
my point was that the press in their coverage of stories decide what is to be of interest. And I’m still here not because of the initial ‘story’ but because it’s interesting how MM continues to be dragged into anything in a negative light.

I thought it was just a piece of good news amongst all the cr*p at the moment. If any GN had posted that they or their AC or one of their friends, who we know even less about than PM, had just had a baby, could we have been happy without all the narky comments?

Absolutely right, Mollygo

I've seen people offering congratulations to others on the birth of children to those they don't know in real life on some of the more pleasant threads.
This should have been a pleasant thread, Smileless.

Congratulations to Pippa and James Matthews on the safe arrival of Grace Elizabeth Jane.

Smileless2012 Tue 16-Mar-21 10:54:51

birth of M&H's baby is announced, not born.

Smileless2012 Tue 16-Mar-21 10:53:26

And why wouldn't posters be just as pleased when the birth of M&H's baby is born safe and well suziewoozie.

"It smacks of some sort of obsession"; it certainly does.

Mine was a throw away remark, it was not meant to divert this thread from its proper course.

But it did. Supposing a ‘team Meghan’ poster had come on this thread and said something on the lines of ‘ Well I hope posters will be as delighted when MM’s baby is born’.? Imagine the outrage. Given the multiple opportunities we have on GN to fulminate about MM couldn’t posters just sometimes refrain from even more negative ‘throw away’ comments about her whatever the thread? It smacks of some sort of obsession

suziewoozie

We could have a new favourite poetry thread - come on Fanny do your job.

We've already done that one a month or two back.
"The Highwayman" and loads of others. Fond memories.

Sorry I missed it

Annie I could be wrong, but I think that Suzie was referring to the press 'ignoring what really matters'.

Thank you - you’re right ( as nearly always ?)

FannyCornforth Tue 16-Mar-21 10:35:26

Ellianne yes, that poetry thread was an excellent read

Anniebach Tue 16-Mar-21 10:30:30

suziewoozy with respect may I explain ? Not everyone will
agree with your opinion on ‘what really matters’ , it is for each poster to decide, not you alone.

I am amused you post on threads you consider ‘doesn’t really matter so of no interest ‘

Ladyleftfieldlover touched on a good point. In decades to come Pippa's children will be mere cousins to the king and Archie and number 2 will be as well. I think that kind of put things into perspective all round.
* Calendargirl* that media report should have read "pays tribute to GM Carole". Isn't her middle name Elizabeth?

Ellianne Tue 16-Mar-21 10:21:52

Smileless it was a nice thread to begin with. Any baby is happy news. Frank Lampard and Christine had a baby boy yesterday and I thought how nice he has a little footballer after having 3 daughters. I know nothing about Chelsea FC or football by the way. Then off I went to walk the dog.

Calendargirl Must have been a slow news day!

More a usual ‘what we can write about to carry on distracting the masses from what really matters day’?
