More good news for the family.

NellG Tue 16-Mar-21 15:16:51

Hetty58 I'm not - and this probably will offend even more people - I had no idea they lived separately as even though I post bits and pieces I'm not that au fait, but I sure as hell hope the Queen has had a few of her own 'comforts' over the intervening years!

Or maybe she's like many of us when we get older and prefers the corgis and a nice cuppa.

Either way, good on Phillip for getting home.

Lady Mountbatten was first introduced to the RF through her relationship with Norton Knatchbull grandson of Earl Mountbatten.P.Ps uncle. She married Norton in 1979 and they became close family friends with the Queen and Prince Phillip particularly after the death from kidney cancer of Leonora, the 5 year old daughter of the then Knatchbulls. There has always been speculation about Penny and P.P, especially after the breakdown of the Knatchbull.(Mountbatten) marriage. Who knows? she is also a close friend/confident of the Queen, so I think we need to be careful about assuming a personal relationship with P.P

Am I the only one who really doesn’t give a fig about this? Even if they were all models of decorum, I’d still think the concept of the monarchy was rubbish ?

Fanny I haven't been on GN for very long but I am truly amazed at how some people here have such a blind allegiance to the RF. Phillip met Romsey while carriage riding and this has been commented on greatly in RF friendly newspapers over the years. Don't see why your comment offends on here.

I don't think it does really, it just appeals to the perpetually offended.

Welcome to GN by the way.

Hetty58 Tue 16-Mar-21 15:03:42

I usually ignore the 'royalty' posts - but, as it's raining again, thought I'd read it through. Simply hilarious - you really are a funny lot!

People take themselves, and the royals, oh, so seriously, don't they? Then get bitchy (or catty) with each other.

Even those of us with little interest do know that Phillip usually lives at Sandringham, retired, while the Queen's at BP, still working.

Yes, we know he has a lady friend too - so what? Nobody's offended are they?

Rosalyn69 Tue 16-Mar-21 14:58:15

So much nastiness. I know I posted that he didn’t look well but it was concern not nastiness.
Truly this forum can be very unpleasant. I am one that rarely posts.

Actually for a 99 year old I think he looks pretty good considering he has just had a month in hospital.

If there had been no pictures of him everyone would be speculating about why that was. The RF cannot win whatever they do.

Hope he and the Queen can have some nice quiet time together and forget all the shennanigans that have been going on.

Urmstongran Tue 16-Mar-21 14:48:29

It’s lovely news to hear that the DoE is home from hospital this afternoon. Apparently he walked unaided to a waiting car. Hopefully he will recuperate now this Spring and be able to look forward to a relaxing summer with his family.

Your comment shocked me Anniebach. I’m glad you’re still with us. We care. x

Anniebach Tue 16-Mar-21 14:38:03

Yes Lucca I certainly know the difference between asking / seeking help and contributing to threads be they controversial
or not

Anniebach

Thank you FannyCornforth , I will post off topic and I hope
I will be forgiven.

3 years last November 1st I sat alone clutching a box of painkillers and my iPad, I chose the iPad and because of the lovely people here then, I didn’t die.

I wouldn’t give much hope for anyone reaching out here now

I too am glad GN helped you Annie. I am equally sure that were anyone to reach out in distress they would receive support And kindness. As Fanny has said.
Asking for and offering help is different to contributing to controversial threads

Thank you LauraNorder. NellG

Puzzler I doubt the queen had to make it clear there was to be no divorce

Mapleleaf Tue 16-Mar-21 14:25:23

I’m pleased to see that he has been allowed to go home, and hope that with rest in his own home he will soon start to look stronger.

Mollygo Tue 16-Mar-21 14:24:27

Annie I’m glad you chose your iPad too. Hang in there and I hope you’re feeling better now.

NellG Tue 16-Mar-21 14:23:46

Annie another one who's glad you're here. Noli illegitimi carborundum lovely . x

Puzzler61 Tue 16-Mar-21 14:21:42

Whatever indiscretions on either side - which there may or may not have been- I read that the Queen made it very clear to Philip when they married that divorce would not be an option to them.

Oldwoman70 Tue 16-Mar-21 14:11:22

FannyCornforth are you saying that only "male members of the aristocracy" take lovers? Female members don't, non aristocratic men and women don't? Do you have proof that Prince Philip has an "interesting" love life, or are you only repeating gossip? I have no idea of the truth of the matter one way or the other but yours is a rather sweeping statement!

Anniebach Tue 16-Mar-21 13:57:17

I can imagine the deep relationship the Queen and the Duke
surely have, she has to greet someone and he is the one person
through 73 years to whom she can say - oh hell a bloody boring hour ahead

LauraNorder Tue 16-Mar-21 13:54:11

Sorry Annie I messed your earlier post. I’m another who is very glad you chose your iPad flowers

LauraNorder Tue 16-Mar-21 13:52:57

If I thought Orlin had ever had a bit on the side he’d be speaking with a very high pitched voice and sitting alone in a manky bed sit by now.

Anniebach Tue 16-Mar-21 13:52:51

GrannyGravy I remember, glad you are still here x

GrannyGravy13 Tue 16-Mar-21 13:50:51

Anniebach so pleased that you chose your iPad, you were so kind and welcoming to me when I first started posting.

Puzzler61 Tue 16-Mar-21 13:45:57

Apologies - correcting myself - they will have been married 74 years in November 2021.

Puzzler61 Tue 16-Mar-21 13:43:55

I’m really pleased the Duke has left hospital. He looked frail last year on a previous photo I saw of him so not surprised he looks even more so after a month of illness.
Wishing him well and I hope he and the Queen are together. They will hopefully celebrate 70 years of marriage in November. By “aristocratic” comparisons their marriage has been a massive success.

FannyCornforth Tue 16-Mar-21 13:43:00

Annie you will be pleased to know that in my experience I have found much support and kindness here of late, and I know that others do feel the same.
I'm so, so glad that you chose the iPad ?
