He had a good innings. I liked him, he was a feisty one who spoke his mind.

One good thing about the pandemic is that the Queen and Prince Philip spent a year together in their latter years. He was such a support for her, and will be greatly missed by the Royal Family. May he rest in peace.

Very sad and even more in as much he cannot have the state funeral befitting.

Eternal Father, Strong to Save,
Whose Arm doth bind the restless Wave!

My favourite hymn and a fitting tribute!
The outpouring of well-wishers has been present all day here in OZ on several of our TV stations and newspapers.
Of course, much of it included his surprisingly many visits "Down Under" both public and private!
Farewell!

I’m not a royalist but I still find it really sad for the fact that a dear lady has lost her “rock,” and a family will be missing their cherished father and loving granddad.
They’d come a long way together through thick and thin indeed they were married for ten years more than I’ve been alive!
My heart goes out to the family and I pray that God will bestow His peace and comfort upon them as they go through this terribly sad time. RIP Philip Duke of Edinburgh

Honestly, I've never been much of a Royals admirer. But as I got older I sneakily liked Prince Philip a bit more because he spoke his mind, even when it meant he put his foot in it now and then. He reminded me of my dad in that way. Sad to hear of his death and of course the royal family are grieving just like the rest of us. But not too sad because he got to 99 years, which most of us won't!

Sad he was almost 100 been I’ll for some time , had a heart operation recently and came though it all a fantastic man. So pleased he could die in peace at home with the Queen by his side. RIP Prince Phillip. Condolences to her Majesty and the Royal Family

The Queen will miss him by her side after 73 years together. A man who always said what he thought, very refreshing all those years ago. I listened yesterday about his Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme that brought such joy to so many children. Well done Sir, a great legacy you have left behind.

Duke of Edinburgh Award and the environment and his support of the Queen. He was his own man who always spoke his mind. RIP

whoever you are, rich or poor. when you lose your partner after such a long time, it still hurts, I hope her family will be able to get to be with her at this horrible time

RIP Prince Philip sad that he's died. Have watched his life story on TV he certainly didn't have the best start in life.
Now hoping to see the main TV channels return to some normal programs as they seem to be playing the same obituary over and over again today

Wow he was so good looking in his younger days. What was not to like about him. He was intelligent, funny and a wonderful help to the Queen all through her long reign. My thoughts are with the Queen at this sad time.

not really unexpected, but still sad news.Such a shame he didn't reach his 100th.

The Queen and Prince Philip have been part of our lives for so long - they were married before I was born, and it was sad to hear that he is gone, and the Queen is now so alone. Her Mother, sister, and now her husband - all those of her generation are falling away. My first thought was - how long will she go on now, without the man she has known and loved since she was thirteen?

What a hard working, devoted and loyal person
Unfortunately a lot of these qualities have been lost in our present society
What a brilliant example he was and not at all stuffy
Hopefully all his hard work will be remembered

This is my favourite image.

Peacefully at home. It doesn't get better than that. Condolences to all the family.

When they said he was born when Lloyd-George was Prime Minister. Wow. Really brought home how old he was. End of an Era

Grandmabeach Sat 10-Apr-21 10:52:25

I also felt sadder than I thought I would to hear of his death and my thoughts are with the Queen and family. I was only 4 when the Queen and Prince Philip married so he has always been there walking slightly behind the Queen for as far back as I can remember.

What really upset me was discovering there were already Trolls posting negative comments on the media. He did more for this country than they can ever imagine. Just why do some people have to be so unpleasant? If they can not think of anything kind to say keep quiet.

Gwenisgreat1 Sat 10-Apr-21 10:49:17

God Bless the Queen

RIP. The Duke of Edinborough.
My heart is full of sadness. He will be sorely missed by everyone. Such an asset to the Queen and country for 73 years.
My thoughts are with her Majesty and her family.

When they asked Harry to come home, it was a pretty sure sign ?
