He had a good innings. I liked him, he was a feisty one who spoke his mind.

At least he slipped away peacefully at home. Poor Queen. I'm sure the family will rally round.

Sad news for the Queen.

Namsnanny Fri 09-Apr-21 12:11:27

Well, I did wonder when he looked so unwell in the car coming home the other day.
I'm sorry to hear this all the same.

Kalu Fri 09-Apr-21 12:12:18

I have just heard this news too ? Such a sad day for the Queen.

trisher Fri 09-Apr-21 12:12:19

I wondered when he was released from hospital if it was just to die at home. He's lucky many don't get that. RIP.

EllanVannin Fri 09-Apr-21 12:12:25

Aww, it's upset me.sad

NotAGran55 Fri 09-Apr-21 12:13:09

Good he was at Windsor and not in hospital. Always best to have your family with you. End of an era.

blondenana Fri 09-Apr-21 12:15:52

I'm very sorry to hear this ,but it wasn't unexpected was it, he went through a lot in hospital, but there was only so much that could be done i expect at almost 100 years old
I feel really upset, don't know why really
The poor Queen has had a lot to put up with this tear especially

Puzzler61 Fri 09-Apr-21 12:16:55

RIP Prince Philip. What a life he had - almost 100 years.
I’m glad he was at home and not in hospital. It’s what most of us would choose.

Kamiso Fri 09-Apr-21 12:18:50

Sad news for the Queen and her family.. She made no secret of the fact that he was her rock. RIP.

EllanVannin Fri 09-Apr-21 12:19:14

These things affect you more as you get older, especially when you've lived through their wedding, the death of King George VI and then the Coronation. After that the births of their children.

Sara1954 Fri 09-Apr-21 12:19:33

So sad, I liked him.

Savvy Fri 09-Apr-21 12:19:35

So sad, but not totally unexpected. There's no questioning his devotion to his wife and family who will miss him terribly.

A lot of people forget that he was a royal in his own right and served his country well.

Rest in peace Your Royal Highness, you did your duty to the end.

grannyactivist Fri 09-Apr-21 12:20:45

I feel surprisingly sad - it really does feel like the beginning of the end of an era. sad

B9exchange Fri 09-Apr-21 12:22:11

Such sad news, let's face it he has been a stable focus for virtually all our lives. The Queen has described him as 'her strength and stay all these years' and I do fear what this will do to her. I remember how small and vulnerable she looked walking down the aisle of Westminster Abbey without him when he was taken ill after her Jubilee celebrations.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 09-Apr-21 12:22:33

RIP D of E I was really hoping he would make 100.

Severnsider Fri 09-Apr-21 12:25:48

Sad news although not unexpected. I think we'll all miss him particularly the Queen, after 73 years of marriage he was always at her side.

NannyJan53 Fri 09-Apr-21 12:26:26

End of an era. I feel quite sad.

BlueSky Fri 09-Apr-21 12:26:58

A long and varied life. Still very sad for the Queen regardless of age, at least he was at home. RIP.

mokryna Fri 09-Apr-21 12:28:03

My thoughts are with Her Majesty the Queen.
