I have long been an admirer of Sophie. I found it very moving to see how much emotion she showed when talking about the DOE. Pleased that the Queen has this lovely lady to support her at this very sad time.

My darling daughter was named Catherine, friends did call her
Cath but no one called her Kate.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s name is Catherine. Does anyone in her family call her Kate? I read somewhere that they actually call her Catherine. My daughter’s name is Catherine and that’s exactly what I call her.

What annoys me is why Sophie is always referred to as Sophie Wessex. She used to be Sophie Rhys - Jones. Kate has never been allowed by the press to be anything other than Kate Middleton.

Lady Colin Campbell describes the royals in everyday terms-
Elizabeth Windsor, Sophie Wessex, Catherine Cambridge.

You never hear William refer to her as Kate- it’s always ‘Catherine’.

Sophie Essex runs smoothly, not so Kate Cambridge

I think he does royal duties vegansrock. He and Sophie cover a lot more engagements now the Queen is ageing and Prince Philip retired a few years ago. Also now H+M have decided to not be working royals the engagements that would have been theirs are covered by Sophie and Edward and William and Catherine I believe.

I agree Ngaio1 despite the usual suspects derailing your post.

I like Edward and Sophie. On one occasion, which I think was Prince Harry’s last church outing with Meghan, and all the royal family attended, there were some highland dancers dancing in front of the main entrance. Edward stopped to watch them and called to Sophie to notice them too. None of the others even looked at them. I thought that was a nice thing to do.

Didn’t Edward try a media career which sank like a stone? Not sure what he does now.

And with plenty of nepotism thrown in but he is now a goodie so lay off him, right? ?

Every one deserves a second chance but when they are devious and willing to lie over and over again, they deserve nothing.

maddyone Mon 12-Apr-21 17:25:10

I don’t think Sophie Wessex ever criticised her in law family publicly, nor did a televised interview specifically to tell the world how badly the RF had treated her. Something tells me that might be the difference.

And she was forgiven for very crass behaviour at one time. I wonder why that can’t be extended to a certain other woman who married in?

maybe because SW was contrite and willing to amend.

Well I think they're a waste of money. You could have one Head of State and leave the rest to fend for themselves. I think spending £354 million a year on them is ridiculous. www.republic.org.uk/the_true_cost_of_the_royals

Oh here go the left scrapping with each other again ???

^The title won't pass from Charles to Edward. The title will be merged with the crown and Charles can, and probably will, choose to give it to Edward.^
?
Which will be in accordance with his mother's wishes.

I'm not a republican, not an ardent royalist either, just a pragmatic one and think they're good value for my £1.24 pa.

The issue for Republicans is actually nothing to do with money. I would feel the same if they did it for nothing. And btw that figure is part of the PR propaganda and does not reflect the true cost

I knew Sophie's uncle and aunt who she was close to. Over the years she spent a lot of time in our village. I never met her but I knew a lot of people who did and they all had nice things to say about her.

At the time of her wedding her Aunt and Uncle were put up at Royal Lodge, Windsor. I think the QM was living there then. They said it was fabulous, and though they weren't particularly royalist they said the Royal Family, and particularly the Queen, were lovely to them.

I remember her telling me that she was sitting next to the Sultan of Brunei at the wedding breakfast (as you do) and he said the next time you're in Brunei do pop in.

I think it’s called showing respect to a grieving family. Oh sorry only Republicans have to do that?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 12-Apr-21 15:57:38

Publicly they will, in private we won’t know unless Harry speaks to the media, as he did after the telephone calls.

Off we go again.
