They don’t help themselves do they?

I can hardly believe I’m going to post this but does anyone else find it hard to believe that Harry and Andrew who actually saw active service for Queen and country are to wear suits for the funeral rather than uniform? I understand why this decision has been made and I think it stinks quite frankly - designed to humlitate. I don’t know why they’re not wearing sackcloth and ashes actually - petty, vindictive, what a lovely family they are.

Such compassion, and I had forgotten when I said I felt so sad
they are wealthy so are cushioned from grief.

If people really felt sorry for the Queen having cameras poked at her, they would switch their TV off and not look at any of the pictures.

Absolutely brilliant post - voyeurism is a choice. Weren’t those of us complaining about the extent of the BBC coverage told we could just switch off ?????

The Queen could have ordered no cameras if she really wanted to, but obviously the RF need to be on show- that’s what they are there for.

Well the long thread certainly made something out of more or less nothing so in my book it was pretty successful.

I’ve read some of the posts (too many to read them all) but as I don’t know any GN members irl, to me, we’re all just internet sprites behind keyboards and not necessarily representative of the real world.

Do people really think members of the RF are special? I don’t know anyone who does.

In fact, apart from my old mum, who in passing said she didn’t think she’d watch the funeral as she prefers more cheerful viewing, not one person I’ve spoken with this week has so much as mentioned the DoE.

Haven't you read any of the posts on GN about the RF? I don't know anyone who does either but a lot of people on GN seem to think they are.

No Annie and that must be horrible to have a camera lens poking at you.

Oh come on - I don’t think they are that sort of camera. I think she’s made of sterner stuff and sees having the funeral televised as part of her duty.

The wearing of a uniform and a chest full of medals does not, in any way, denote superiority
It's outdated and archaic
I agree with trisha
What nonsense

I've never understood why people wear uniforms at funerals: can someone enlighten me?

The RF wear uniforms to funerals because it makes them stand out and they think a bit of gold braid and a few flashy medals are impressive. In black coats and suits they will look like any other member of the public attending a funeral, and that really won't do. People might start to realise there is absolutely nothing special about them.

maddyone Thu 15-Apr-21 22:58:13

It will indeed be horrible for the Queen as she lays her husband to rest, knowing that much of the funeral will be seen all around the world. I know she’s used to publicly and cameras, but she’s still a very elderly widow attending the funeral of the husband she loved.

....Andrew......isn’t the brightest the brightest coin in the mint...... gringringrin

Anniebach Thu 15-Apr-21 22:34:50

True, but they didn’t have cameras poised waiting for any sign of emotion.

EllanVannin Thu 15-Apr-21 22:11:59

Penny was quite right when she said that thousands had mourned their loved ones this past 12 months with widows sitting apart from their families because of blooming Covid.
Lonely figures with nobody allowed to put an arm around them.

EllanVannin Thu 15-Apr-21 22:08:22

Penny Junor hasn't half aged.

Much like lots of families Annie when there have been upsets in the family before either a wedding or a funeral. Uncomfortable.

Anniebach Thu 15-Apr-21 21:59:10

It’s so sad we mock, criticise, find amusement ,because a man has died and his family are mourning

EllanVannin Thu 15-Apr-21 21:38:41

I'm sure social distancing will apply grin In more ways than one.

vegansrock Thu 15-Apr-21 21:24:21

I’m sure lots of people leave jobs they couldn’t hack after a short time, but why would they want to wear the uniform of that job after failing at it?

Alegrias1 Thu 15-Apr-21 21:22:29

What's funny is that anybody seriously thinks that the RF don't care about what SM says and don't modify their public image by monitoring online attitudes. I suspect they themselves don't give much thought at all about wearing uniforms, but you can bet your pension that their PR team know exactly what you think about it. And they "advise" what to do. Like the appropriate attire for funerals.

Ma'am the plebs are getting excited about Andrew and his uniform obsession, shall we just ban them all for now?

They pander to our little ideas about uniforms, or looking at flowers, or flying flags, to make the gullible think the RF are relevant, and so forgive them the big things.

Anniebach Thu 15-Apr-21 21:05:00

I don’t believe Andrew wanted to wear a uniform he had no rights to wear, he isn’t the brightest coin in the mint but he would know his right to wear it had been deferred. He had the right to wear a vice admiral uniform, the only one who has no right to wear a uniform is Harry.

Can it be the decision of no uniform was caused by the thought
- he will do another Oprah interview and spew more lies ?

EllanVannin Thu 15-Apr-21 20:59:18

The proper " old soldiers " have all but died now. They're the ones who were deserving of full military funerals ( honours ) having served in the bloodiest of wars.

Gannygangan Thu 15-Apr-21 20:54:43

Oh that's so funny. As if the Palace are sitting there combing through messages on the likes of GN

If this was the case how come we still have a RF? How come Andrew hasn't been packed off to USA? How come Charles is still with Camilla? How come he was allowed to marry her? The level of vitriol aimed at her was intense. So no, The Palace don't care about what people are saying on these sites. Thank goodness.

I feel for the Queen. Bickering son and grandson whining about what to wear. I am not remotely surprised she's opted for the morning suit attire. Just to shut them up.

But GN comments will not have affected anything. Never will. Same goes for all the vile tweets and other social media outlets.

Whitewavemark2 , your comment about Edward and his hectic month in the Marines made me laugh

In fact there's been a lot of humour, not always intentional, in this little gem of a thread.
