Continuation

I have seen that from a few sources suziewoozie. Probably not different from many of the post-industrial Labour heartlands?

I think it is very clear that support for Labour is coming from younger people with higher levels of education. Not sure why this should be a surprise to anyone. The analysis of the demographics shows that constituencies such as Hartlepool have many more older people, as the young leave to find work.

Not sure that Hartlepool age demographics are very different.

But good on CNN. If the BBC did that with the Tories ( hollow laugh at the very thought) they wouldn’t have time for anything else

CNN could teach the BBC a thing or two.

They are now calling out every lie told by any politician at the time of the interview and also refusing to interview anyone that continually pushes the same lie.

My dgs’ fish could teach the BBC a thing or two.

I live in the remainer south and Johnson is not popular.

In fact I don’t recognise a lot of what grans in the north say.

Supporters of Labour in the south tend to be younger. Worthing has traditionally never return a labour councillor and now has 9

Brighton of course is Green whose support is growing.

Support is turning away from the Tories.

We are truly a country of division.

Yes, younger trendy woke Labour voters are moving out from London and buying up every barn in the South!?
Apart from in large cities, the support for Labour comes from them and not now the backbone of Labour in the past...the working classes.Large swathes of the North may never vote Labour again.

You wouldn’t have a link to this would you - you know as in facts and evidence? ?

Methinks the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation have morphed into the Boris Broadcasting Corporation.

Maybe if Labours (and Greens and LibDem) successes weren’t ignored by the news media we wouldn’t have to.

See the above clip which illustrates the role of the BBC in disseminating false information ( not just ignoring certain items of news)

If anyone wants sad, watch this clip of two Hartlepool men who voted Tory and believe problems with their local hospital and courts are down to Labour. Watch the BBC man nodding along to the completely false narrative. And then cry at the lack of knowledge and the BBC being the broadcasting propaganda arm of no 10 ( aka The Ministry of Truth);

Once the figures have been analysed we will be able to get a better idea.

I am intrigued though with regard to the landslide success of Labour Mayors in the north and west. It will be fascinating to read the analysis of why this happened.

It’s quite sad really to see some posters grabbing at every crumb of comfort they can from these Labour victories despite the fact that the elections were an overwhelming success for the tories.

Isn’t it though! ?

You mean analysing a range of very different results in different areas is sad? Really? Given the range and difference across the 3 countries and within England, only someone with very little understanding of politics could believe the elections were an overwhelming success for the Tories.

I think it probably does fit the pattern for Oxfordshire. Tunbridge Wells is not altogether surprising, it was the only town in Kent that voted remain.

Casdon Sun 09-May-21 15:35:21

Yes, let us know Maybee70, there has to be an underlying reason as it really doesn’t fit the pattern.

Chipping Norton is interesting, I don’t think you could get much more ‘shires’ - wasn’t David Cameron the leader of the Chipping Norton set?

I have a friend who lives in Chippy and she is very Labour. I would imagine the party is very strong and well organised there. I must message her!

Greeneyedgirl Sun 09-May-21 15:03:58

I live in a true blue and Brexit voting shire county, but the Tories lost 5 seats on the county council, with gains for Labour and Lib Dems,. The rural heartlands remain Tory, but their support is definitely on the wane in the county town wards here. Gives me hope for the future.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 09-May-21 14:49:35

Kent voters who are feeling the direct result of Brexit and have previously voted Tory and Brexit have returned Labour councillors.

I think that what Labour and the Tories need to take from this is that they should all calm down, and understand that there seems to be a bigger realignment than first realised

Maybe those victories will make the headlines in the Sun (I’m not holding my breath though)....

Gannygangan Sun 09-May-21 14:09:12

There is not unconditional adoration of Johnson

Thank goodness

Imagine living in a society where everyone was expected to vote in the same way.

Not good.
