When I was at a loose end I checked the international bank holidays in my desk diary. Yes I know, I must have been bored. Anyway I knew we have the lowest in the UK and so it was. Many european countries have 11 or 12 and we have just 8.
Between May and December ( 7 months!) we have only one bank holiday. Wouldn’t it be nice to break that long gap with a day , or two, in October to break it up a bit and it wouldn't affect where we are on the bank holiday competition. Nul pointe as ever.
Yes this is true, but in say, Germany, where my sister lives, if the date of say May Day falls on a Tuesday that is the day you have off, not on the nearest Monday as we do. In 2022 May Day falls on a Sunday, That is the day it is celebrated. Too many lost working hours if Monday included too as we would.
