How fantastic does this woman look for 70 yrs of age? She's slim and extremely stylish, great hair as well and she wears stilettos! She's still working as a professor of English and she's the first lady of America. Not sure about the jacket with LOVE emblazoned on the back though. Apart from that my hat is off to you Jill! You're an example to us all.

Errrr, he's a baby, on a beach, his pull up nappyknicks seemed perfectly respectable surely he doesn't need shorts as well. When I was young he wouldn't have had anything on , but of course those days have long gone.

Pretty sure people were joking

If I were to make any comment on anyone's appearance, it would be B. Johnson and his ridiculous hair. He can afford a barber and comb for heaven's sake.
I can too but my hair always ends up looking like Boris's (only longer).

It's just difficult hair, I could tame it in the morning but by 11am it's wild again.
Brush it, it's ok for 10 minutes.

Yes back to the original question Jill does look fabulous imo.

I had a look at American, Canadian and British newspapers on line, and the only ones that showed wives/fashion were the British ones.

Any G7 headlines here were about either covid-19 or the environment, and the only photo on both US and CDN websites were all the leaders standing on the beach. I had to look up on line to see if Trudeau's wife Sophie went with him.

We don't put any importance on our leader's spouses here, certainly not the high ranking that the US does by calling them the First Lady. When I ask around the office, no one can recall the name of the previous Prime Minister's wife.

The fact that the leaders have brought their partners, and those partners are looking nice is charming and only slightly entertaining to me. There is no media frenzy about the style of dress here. I'm not trying to sound holier-than-thou; I love a good fashion magazine.

If I were to make any comment on anyone's appearance, it would be B. Johnson and his ridiculous hair. He can afford a barber and comb for heaven's sake.

Please could someone explain ‘age appropriate’ clothes to me?

Why? Do you normally go about in skin tight leather trousers,
A skirt like a pelmet, tight vest top with boobs pushed up and out, crop tops showing a pierced navel?
If you don’t, then you know about age appropriate clothes.

How very rude, mean and patronising. I have gathered from previous reactions from you that you don’t like me, but there was no need to answer my post at all, let alone with such a mean-spirited, supercilious post.

I think perhaps you completely misunderstood the post.

I doubt very much that you wear clothes like that, I doubt very much anyone on here thinks that you do, so it seems obvious that the poster thought that you do know about age appropriate clothes.

I thought it was a backhanded compliment.

If someone said it to me, I'd laugh.

No doubt there are many 70 year old ladies maybe older who are fortunate enough to look and be as Mrs Biden.
Health/ education /money/being in the right place at the right time ? just a few that wink help where Mrs Biden and many others 'having made it' now find themselves.

That's my problem!

I've never been in the right place at the right time, especially when God was giving out good knees, good feet, looks .....

Yes. Is there something wrong with that? confused
I'm 76 btw.
Only a few tattoos though.

Should I be looking at a Damart catalogue instead?

Yes I agree about Trump, but although I don’t like Trump I don’t project those thoughts on to his wife. So I felt a bit sorry for Melania, but of course she married him so I guess that’s a bit pointless. I did like her although I think she was cool because she didn’t like being First Lady. I thought she always looked very well presented, but Mrs Biden looks as though she would be much easier to talk too, so I like her too. To be fair, none of us know any of them so we can’t really judge. Most people probably judge merely by the politics, but I like to look a bit more than that. I don’t want to like or dislike someone because of their partner’s politics.

Galaxy Fri 11-Jun-21 21:04:13

It's my opinion too grin

In your opinion Varian. You forgot to say in your opinion.

Yes maddyone you are right. The Bidens are a huge improvement on the Trumps,- in my opinion.

I do admire both Joe Biden and Jill Biden, but , having said that, almost any POTUS and FLOTUS, would be a huge improvement on the appalling Trumps.

maddyone Fri 11-Jun-21 20:06:41

I liked Melania and that’s my opinion.

Well, I used the title she likes to be known by and was put down for it. If you have a PhD then you have worked hard and are justifiably proud of it.
Though it doesn't mean I want to be like her or have to admire her way of dressing or in the future be trying to emulate her and look like one of my D's. I am allowed my opinion on how she looks and can imagine the furore in our village if I did they would think I was going to a fancy dress party.
Each to their own ideas and let the focus be on her husband.

You called her "Dr Jill". She's not a TV psychologist with a prime time show. The only people I've seen call her "Dr Jill" is the guy who was trying to discredit her qualification and get her to stop using it, and Fox News. Its meant to belittle her.

Her name is Dr Biden.

grannyrebel7 Fri 11-Jun-21 19:55:10

Yes, she's such a breath of fresh air after Melania Trump! Apart from her physical attributes, even the stiletto wearing, I think she's a lovely person. I like Joe too.

vegansrock Fri 11-Jun-21 19:54:14

Why even are wives/ husbands of politicians attending such an event? Is it necessary?

foxie48 Fri 11-Jun-21 19:49:44

I am going to ignore the rather nasty comments on this thread, honestly who needs to be so unpleasant! There's some great photos on the Guardian website which made me smile. I love the pink dress that's Carrie's wearing, tbh it's ageless, sleeves that hide the flab, a decent length but I'd probably need to shorten it a tad as I'm not as tall as Carrie, loved the shoes too. I liked all of Jill Biden's outfits and as we are a similar age and build, I think I could "rock them" all and still get admitted to our village hall. Brigitte Macron is very elegant! I've huge respect for Angela Merkel, one tough cookie not someone I'd go to for fashion advice but she's true to her style. TBH I'm not interested in the men's clothes as they have no relevance to me, all I require from a man is good manners, honesty, a decent haircut (if they still have hair), trousers that reach the shoes and socks (removed before passion, please). The rest I can supply myself but I am easily pleased and very independent.
Just as an aside, I would never comment on someone's lack of expression (as a couple of people have) this can be a symptom of Parkinson's) and tbh I would see it as very bad form.

hollysteers Fri 11-Jun-21 19:42:19

I really like Joe Biden, yes a lovely smile, but I think he has had a facelift and his eyes ‘done’ as many Americans in prominent positions do. This gives the slightly and only slightly, odd look.
Don’t we usually admire people who “look after themselves”, men and women? Therefore I beg to differ on Mary Beard. She has well paid TV contracts, but makes no effort. Most people in the same boat would take a moment to consider their appearance, men and women. It’s rather like two fingers up to the viewers.
Every time we dress, we make a statement of some kind.
Yammy I don’t fancy a trip to your village hall, it sounds very critical!

varian Fri 11-Jun-21 19:31:27

Jill Biden is a huge improvement on Melania Trump and her husband Joe Biden is a huge improvement on he utterly ghastly husband,

maddyone Fri 11-Jun-21 19:26:51

Well I think Jill Biden and Carrie Johnson have both looked very nice in their outfits, but I particularly like the dresses Carrie has worn. I think she’s looked lovely. Also Catherine looked nice when she was out with Jill Biden. I agree with a previous poster who said they liked Melania Trump. Despite her husband I liked her, and thought she always looked lovely. I think she was a rather reluctant First Lady though, which I assume Jill Biden is not. She seems to be enjoying the proceedings anyway.

TanaMa Fri 11-Jun-21 19:12:00

Goodness knows what comments would have been posted had Jeremy Corbyn ever been in attendance at such a meeting!! Always looked scruffy as if he had slept in his clothes.

Good post Lemon, made me giggle.

I’m so glad you’ve been able to have a good snigger at my expense.

Not at all- it made me giggle on its own- nothing to do with your post, I can assure you.

Well Wilfred looked good especially his hair, without any help whatsoever.

but i think his stylists slipped up by allowing him to appear in public without wearing shorts.
i think the lack of appropriate clothing is undignified.

So did I Ilovecheese, but didn't have the bottle to say so on here.

She could have been beautiful yes but her face lacked the expression which IMO would have made her beautiful.
