Aleg it’s possible to combine the two, as the OP already has done.
Good Morning Saturday 9th May 2026
How fantastic does this woman look for 70 yrs of age? She's slim and extremely stylish, great hair as well and she wears stilettos! She's still working as a professor of English and she's the first lady of America. Not sure about the jacket with LOVE emblazoned on the back though. Apart from that my hat is off to you Jill! You're an example to us all.
Aleg it’s possible to combine the two, as the OP already has done.
Gwyneth
I thought both couples looked really good. As someone mentioned earlier Carrie was wearing a dress from LK Bennett representing British fashion. Please don’t turn what is an enjoyable thread into an excuse for Boris bashing yet again.
They can’t help themselves Gwyn ?
There's definitely two camps, I think.
Those who think its nice to compliment a woman on her looks, weight, and dress sense, and can't understand why that would be seen as inappropriate. A bit like calling her Dr Jill or describing her as a Barbie Doll, for example.
And the other group who look at somebody like Jill Biden and see somebody doing great things in her life that should give us all inspiration to aim for higher things.
Never the twain shall meet, I think.
Oops too many "ins"
It wouldn't bother me if Dr Jill turned up in an itsy bitsy polka dot bikini.
It is her husband we should be concentrating on and what he has to say and proposes to do.
I must admit I do look at what they have on just like everyone else, but why? I don't suddenly want to emulate them and feel disgusted that my hair is now grey and I've put on weight during lockdown.
She looks like the typical American Barbie doll, if I went to our village hall with a coat with a spangled message on my back balancing on vertiginous heels and fishnet tights all of which she has worn the local would think I was a tart in a trance covered as the shoes would be in cow dung. Two American first ladies stand out to me the height of decorum and style,Jackie O whom no one will better we still quote her and use her name as a look and Nancy Regan.,I once read she looked to Grace kelly for style.
Me I'm an Ursula girl sensible coat and trousers, shoes with heels you can walk down aeroplane steps in.
I would keep in the background and let my husband get on with his job. I read that his sometimes awkward face is because he has overcome a very bad stammer poor chap
There's a video piece in a school's early years' garden feeding the rabbit some carrots. While they are talking to the kids some awful busy body pressman shoves Jill behind Catherine presumably so they can get a better shot of the Duchess Ever the professional Catherine draws Jill who dropped her mask in or tissue in the move back in.
I would sack him!
Nice to see an Early Years' Male teacher!
I don't like ties hanging limped out between trousers under buttoned jackets

There are many things to admire Dr Jill Biden for; but her 'slimness' and ability to wear stiletto heels are not two of them!
Well said,
Like Rafichagran I love to get a compliment about how I look, my hair or something I’m wearing.
I do admire Jill Biden’s ability to wear and walk in stilettos. It’s a reminder of that ‘use it or lose it’ saying. I lost it - can’t manage above 2 1/2 inch heels now.
Being slim? Lucky her. I’m not and never was, though I do look after my body. I imagine she’s fit and toned as well, possibly with the aid of a personal trainer.
There’s a lot expected of her in her position as First Lady. I can imagine the comments if it didn’t seem that she cared about her appearance.
People have discussed the issue of how the female partners of leaders are viewed for at least 50 years, way way before woke came into common use. So no it's really not a 'woke concept.
Honest, Johnson looked very good? Really.
If we are allowed to comment on dress, size and looks- why not Boris.
Of course it is fine to comment on the looks of the First Lady. She does look amazing and very elegant and confident.
What is so objectionable is that this happens just so often, so predictably, about women in politics or professional environment, in a way that would not happen to the same extent with men. So to redress balance, I have no hesitation in saying Boris looked awful.

I think Jill Biden is doing her best to present the civilized and decent side of people that she represents. She has so far been warm friendly and diplomatic. She is looking wonderful as you might expect her to and this could be seen as a sign of respect for her husband's office and the country hosting the summit.
I am going to use the word 'woke' again (scream quietly if you have to...) as I think it admirably sums up the stand taken by people who think women should not be objectified - as in being given a compliment.
FLOTUS is an elegant, well-dressed, highly intelligent woman who looks smart and is a complement to her husband in his important role in our world. Her size is neither here nor there but yes, she is able to look more elegant and stream-lined because of her weight.
If we can not say or think the above, it has become a sad woke world.
Oops sorry about the spelling, did not check what I had posted. Still did not take you lot long to pick up on it.
Too right then none of this St Diana tripe and trouble would have occured!
For sure it was pitycity.

I like the way Camilla looks and I wish Charles had married her first then everyone would have loved her. Sad she is seen as the other woman still.
Not on GN she isn’t !
Lucca, yes, not only personnel; but personell with 'circumstances'!
rafichagran
I did not use the word judge Fanny, you did. I used the words comment, and admire.
This is not a thread about you or your personnel circumstances.
Fanny M do you have personnel ? How posh
All these gushing compliments for Jill Biden, surely someone can find something pleasant to say about Carrie? Ok is pretty grudging when actually she looked lovely and, more annoyingly for some, extremely happy. Mind you she does have an age advantage of 37 years. Boris too has one of 23 years, so comparisons are a bit unfair! While I can understand making a passing comment, I can't understand minutely dissecting every detail of someone's appearance including the heels of their shoes . They all look great, it's not a competition and what they talk about is more important than how they look. Mary Beard has certainly proved that and Im sure no one on here would criticise her dress code or her hair.

It's the lack of nuance that gets to me.
It's all 'Pick a side! Pick a side!'
Well that is often the case.
As was pointed out on another thread, it's very hard sometimes to not sound firmly in one camp. Purely be because its exhausting laying out all the pros and cons you think apply!
Lizzy sorry, I keep misspelling your name
lizzypopbottle
FannyCornforth No offence taken, just my doubts and insecurities surfacing... ???
Lizzie, you can't be too paranoid on here! ?
i wish i had half her energy.
